So is it true that there are problems running this and San Andreas on a 64 bit system?

No problems at all, even on Win8/8.1.

Had no problems at all except that my PC was way too powerful for the game so I had to use frame limiter to play it without any real issues (like infinite loading screen in GTA VC between missions)

Just bought the steam download, running on win7 no issues, unless as said you don't use the frame limiter, it can get a bit buggy.
