You have an Armenian Gang in the middle of a Junkyard..

MaraBunta on a single street away from all civilization

And some Vagos in the back alleys of Industrial Complexes on the east side of the city..

Anybody else think the locations for them are odd?

No worse than some of the locations in San Andreas. Especially after the glitch where you'd take a boat far out, and when you got back there would be random territories all over the map

gangs are usually in area nobody wants to live in, or places that local government don't pay much attention too. so no, I don't think these places are odd.

are there any gangs that aren't near a freeway, or train tracks?

I don't have a problem with the choice of locations, but i think rockstar should have made much more gang territories, in the city and out the city.

There are worse areas of my city than Chamberlain Hills or Grove Street, and i live in Barcelona, city where gangs are not even 1% like Compton's.

The main problem with the gangs in this game, is not so much the locations, it's the lack of non-player instigated shootouts between rival gangs in the streets.

I've said it about a trillion times on these forums before.. those static gang spawns are a disease on their own. They completely take away the truly random events in the game. I do like that they spawn in these little locations doing scripted things, it makes the environment feel more believable when you're walking past seeing some of the thugs posted up against a wall or talking on their phones but their mistake was making those the only behaviors the gang members have.

In SA, without even recruiting, they'd roam around and cross enemy lines on their own and often times random shootouts and carjackings would happen if there was rivals in the area. You could just follow around a group of Families for a few minutes and there was a good chance something would happen. Now in V, you can hang around the projects all day the only thing you'll see are some Families doing the same idle/smoking/drinking animation over and over and they'll likely never even move.. and on the off chance one does and on the even slimmer chance they walk into rival territory... nothing will happen. The rival gang members will just pretend he doesn't even exist and won't even do so much as approach them like they would in SA. Laughable failure on so many levels

I think it's because they put too much focus on Blaine County and Rockford Hills/Vinewood.
Now this actually makes sense that they they put more focus into those areas(Rockford Hills and Vinewood)
because as you guys know, Michael was the first character they came up first with thus
he was the one that was the most developed of the three. And as you guys know, the majority of the story revolves around Michael and his problems, and because Mike lives in the Rockford Hills/Vinewood area, they put more focus into those areas than South Central LS and East LS( where most of the street gangs are located)
And as for Blaine County, the fans wanted more countryside and variety so they got it.

I personally think there's NOT enough interaction with the gangs.

Actually, I know there isn't.

The "gangs" are stupid. I was in Chamberlain Hills, and I sniped a Balla over on Grove St. hoping to incite a gang shootout. Instead all of the Families pulled out their guns and killed me.

The only well-placed gang, in my opinion, are the Lost, not too near of Sandy Shores.

I'm on the fence with this one; on one hand its more atmospheric to have gangs lurking in the shadows of machinery in the more dilapidated areas of Los Santos...at the same time I didn't feel much atmosphere in the dilapidated areas, the whole industrial areas felt like a Call of Duty map to me, the generic shipyard or container storage place map with maybe the odd exploding drum here or parked van there but for the most part it felt very flat, especially exploring Cypress Flats on foot. still, the abandoned Sprunk factory in IV's Alderney was one hell of a tough act to follow when it comes to dilapidated areas.

I think the places listed are fitting for gangs, but I agree in the sense that they are in kind of silly locations. I don't really even see gangs other than ballas and families.

Hopefully Rockstar addresses this, because they have succeeded in this realm in other incarnations of GTA.

VCS actually had rival gangs attacking business ventures and engaging in turf based conflict, and SA at least scripted a sense of hatred among gangs.

This is GTA V... where are drive by shootings, gang fights, gang controlled drug dealers and the like? The game has potential in these areas.

who knows? Maybe we will get some kind of quasi gang related dlc. Franklin and Lamar are tight, and F even suggests to Lamar that they work on the "Forum" gang, albeit one more focused on money than beef. So much potential.

I'd like to see that what you said about a Forum Gangsters DLC, seeing as Frank is really the only character to canonically expand on, focusing on him and Lamar expanding their crew into making some money (which comes with a lavish dose of premeditated murder, of course) would be a great fanservice to all the Lamar fans and San Andreas fans who long for the gang wars...I mean nobody can make money in GTA without a bit of blood being spilled, I'm surprised Frank hasn't realised that yet!

Exactly it's GTA FIVE
They did better with gangs 10 years ago.
Hell, I think IV had better gang interaction.
How do you possibly downgrade?!

This is fudging Los Angeles. There should be a sea of gun fire and dead young men spread across the ghetto, but nope. Poor Stretch, being a big homie in a little homie world.
