I've gotten into a lot of King Crimson and Genesis recently. Faith No More and Mr. Bungle are really good as well. My go-to death metal bands include Gorguts, Carcass, Death, Opeth, and Vektor. Aphex Twins ambient albums have been receiving a lot of play time recently as well. That's all I can think of for now...

Your list is great with only a few I personally have never heard of.  My childhood was also similar; a child from the 80's but was brought up listening to music from the 50s, 60s and 70s (thanks to my parents) :)   Metallica is one of my favorite bands ever; 'One' has some of the prettiest guitar riffs that have ever entered my ear drums. And Jimi is amazing, I started listening to him when I was 10.  I also love SYSTEM OF A DOWN. :)

You don't like Janis?

Shiny Toy Guns

Vampire Weekend

Brand New

blessthefall

Pierce The Veil

All Time Low

Boys Like Girls (Self-titled album) Love Drunk and anything after sucks.

Amber Pacific (with Matt Young as vocals)

Every Avenue

Yellowcard

Cold

Dynamite Hack

Rise Against

Straylight Run

Scouting For Girls

I really, really dislike the new Boys Like Girls. The older one was perfect, but the new one, after their hiatus, sounds like they got a new lead singer. Matt Young left Amber Pacific to become a school principal, and so the band hired Jesse Contam as the new vocals. The Virtues album was painful to go through. I haven't really gotten into Daisy or any other Brand New songs if there are any yet.

The top billing covers my two favorite genres in a way; UFO and Pink Floyd at the very top of best recording artists I can think of. I love most all rock and metal though, the variety is a welcome thing.

  • Queen
  • Motorhead
  • Metallica
  • Megadeth
  • Black Sabbath
  • Led Zeppelin
  • AC/DC, Van Halen in-between

No Kreator? I met with the guys in Pestilence, took some pictures. Countless Metal bands I met while they played small gigs back in the day. Too hard to just list all my favorites, but it's why I'm the Slam-man!

Yep, my list reads like a who's who of metal's defining, early years. I was loving it big time, and it hurts that much more missing it!!

Side note, Exhorder was one of the late Earl Root's favorite bands (his widow has proposed a bio documentary about Earl's life, so if you just don't know about him from what I've mentioned over the years knowing him, or come across the other Disturbed thrash band, that film may come to life yet, I wouldn't doubt it. It's just that the people in the scene here weren't rich by any stretch, and I think something like that, you wanna do it right to serve the person's memory properly. RIP
