It is some kind of a spaniel, not sure which. Might be a mix.

Are you sure it's pure? Looks like a mix of English Cocker Spaniel and Schnoodle.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Grim reefer I love large dogs as well but my back yard just isn't big enough for a big dog to run around in so I have to get something a bit smaller. Your dog looks cool, he's nice and solid :)

He looks like he is a mix of breeds. The most obvious of breeds in him and the majority is cocker spaniel.

Dat dog. Nice dog, man. Tho I do find breeds like this ugly and have never subscribed to the idea that a "real" dog has to look like that. :p That's a nice dog tho.

I've got a cousin who owns a St-Bernard. Beautiful dog, 130 pounds of pure love.

I used to own a Dalmatian and now I own a Shih Tzu. I myself loved large breeds but since getting my Shih Tzu, it doesn't matter. I love them all.

OP, that looks like some kind of Spaniel. It doesn't look like a pure breed to me but a mix, have you asked the owner?

I would but the owner is not there when we go. I do garden maintenance there every 4 weeks so I'll have to wait to see him again. Maybe I'll leave a note asking what dog he is lol

I'm quite afraid of those dogs. Most of them aren't properly trained.

This is what you call a dog, my friend.

No, it's more like 25 percent shih tzu, 25 percent pomeranian, 500,000 percent adorable.

If you're planning on getting a dog, make sure you adopt! There are thousands of animals in pounds in need of homes. Hundreds of healthy animals are put to sleep every day because shelters are running out of room and can't afford to look after so many animals. Buying animals from breeders just exacerbates the problem. And if you do adopt, make sure your dog is neutered/spayed (most shelters offer this service) to avoid any unwanted puppies which again furthers the problem.

I know finding a specific breed might be hard, but it is so much more rewarding knowing that you are giving an animal a second chance, and saving them from an untimely death. Not to mention that the whole business of Pedigree breeds is really problematic and has resulted in lots of genetic deformities amongst most dogs that can cause massive discomfort for them throughout their entire lives. This is a result of inbreeding to obtain the "desired" look for a Pedigree breed.

I live with lots of adopted animals and they're no different to living with bought/breed animals. You get just as much enjoyment out of sharing your life with them, and you've helped make their lives a little more bearable.

I like all dogs, except Chihuahuas. Those dogs talk so much sh*t it isn't even funny. My favorite is the Golden Retriever.

@Omnia I agree with you but maybe you can enlighten me on something. Do most of the pound dogs have a bad history? I have a young kid and I would think about her first and get a puppy from birth. Are these pounds dogs likely to snap and become aggressive because of their shady past?

It depends on the dog. People abandon their companions for various reasons, not just because they have behaviour issues. Some people can no longer afford to look after them; some people have children and don't have the time to look after both; some just neglect their animals and have them taken away from them. The best bet is to talk to the people at the pound, explain your situation and they will find the dog that best suits your lifestyle. There are hundreds of dogs out there that are perfect with kids and are just begging for a second chance.

Try looking at Collie breeds. It looks like it fits the bill for one.
