Thing is, from the premiere of season 3 I was actually expecting some heavy stuff. The more I've seen of the season so far though, the more I realise that premiere was actually written as part of series 2 and pushed back for whatever reason. I can't remember where I saw it, or why they did it but the episode revolving around The Purge was a last minute addition which allowed Rick's prison break to kick off the next season. If you compare the first and second episodes, I think you can tell.

I still have high hopes for the rest of series 3. It hasn't been bad at all in the slightest, but I'd need the next four (or however many there are left) to be great for it to sit on par with series 2. I suppose we'll have to wait until Sunday and see.

Man, that episode, "The Ricklantis Mix-up" was really good. It's pretty cool to see the Citadel again, and how evil Morty from "Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind" went on to become the president of the Citadel. Plus, that episode aired on my birthday! Thanks for the birthday gift, [adult swim]! Still, kinda wish we saw Rick and Morty's adventure in Atlantis. Maybe we'll get a POV sequel soon, showing what happened to Rick and Morty on their adventure, but I doubt it.

Man, that was the best episode of the entire season so far in my opinion. I had a feeling it was Evil Morty and it was nice seeing that was indeed the case.

also chills hearing Evil Morty's theme again

Evil Morty continuity FTW! I'm so glad that they didn't just abandon that idea.

I can totally see a spin-off series coming from this episode alone.

How about a Slow Rick/Tall Morty spin-off? My favorite ep of the season so far, followed closely by the Vindicators ep. That ending, man. So good.

My favorite ep of the season so far, followed closely by the Vindicators ep.

I still prefer the Vindicators, but it's a really close call.

I want Interdimensional Cable 3 next season (there will be season 4, right?). Those episodes are like a playground for the most bizarre creative ideas.

The plots for the next three episodes have been revealed and unfortunately there's no Interdimensional Cable 3. Rick even says so in the next episodes preview. I still have a feeling Harmon will sneak in it anyway as a "hidden episode" on the DVD or something as the cast loves doing them despite having mixed reactions from audiences. Even if there's no subplot and its just the shows. I really do hope that is the case because I love those episodes.

The latest episode though. Man... Without a doubt one of the greatest of the entire series, if not the greatest. Everything played out like a Blade Runner-esque dystopian future and the idea of incorporating 4 different stories of seperate universes Rick and Morty's was genius.

Wow. My jaw dropped at least twice during this episode - once during the Simple Rick indent and again when we saw the mass of bodies floating outside. That Evil Morty theme always gives me chills. The more I see of Evil Morty, the more I'm convinced that he is actually Rick C137's original Morty. He was so deliciously vague about his origins, and it's clear that Rick has at least had an interaction with a baby Morty, whether or not it's the one we're currently following. I hope they explore at least some of that in the last episode of this season, I'd hate to have to wait another year and a half for season 4 to drip feed us more.

But yes, that episode was one of my favourites of the entire season so far. Also, don't think I've forgotten about Phoenix Person because I bloody well haven't. F*ck Tammy.

I thought the point of Inter dimensional Cable 2 was to poke fun at ''signature'' episodes and how they can run stale when overdone. Harmon's no stranger to those type of eps, e.g Paintball in Community.

Season 3 kinda disappointed me, making me think that the show is going downhill. However, last-week episode set my hope high: although the season made a weak start, the last episodes might do the justice. My thoughts on this season so far, episode by episode:

I haven't watched the latest episode yet, so I'd write down when I see it.

Eh, this week's episode was a bit meh for me. Rick mentions in the beginning this will be this season's cable episode, but after the already less funny cable episode in season 2 compared to season 1, this one didn't improve upon things. It missed that freshness of the original Rixy Minutes.

At first I thought a Beth episode would suck, but that was really good.

Who's to say she hasn't gone before?

Spoiler

It's worth noting that whatever choice she made doesn't matter, and we'll likely never find out unless they need a solo Beth episode. The point is in at least one universe she did decide to leave, and in another she didn't. Her choice doesn't matter at all, and Roiland/Harmon know that. It's another finger in the face of fans.

Overall though? I liked the episode. I thought we were going to get more of a reveal, but I'm satisfied with it.

I don't know when it was gonna be, but I always thought an episode like The ABC's of Beth was on the way. At first glance I got the gist of the episode half-baked, but watching this commentary everything has become crystal clear. In short, The ABC's of Beth is a classic, simple R&M episode full of absurdity and wackiness but in deep, this episode can be the darkest episode of the series overall (one of the few episodes that lived up to the promise for this season IMO). I guess that the episode offers a plausible explanation for the toxic person Beth is.

Spoiler

I know that it's too much obvious to think about, but in deep I think that...

Spoiler

About Morty's Mind Blowers, it seemed pretty average to me but it made more sense than Interdimensional Cable bits I guess. I mean I don't have any problem with Interdimensional Cable episodes, but I think that Rixty Minutes and Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate are more likeable for their side stories (respectively, the heartwarming alternate story of Jerry & Beth, and Jerry trying to donate his penis for that alien dude) than they are for interdimensional cable parts (which fit the role of thrown-in comic reliefs).

Regarding Morty's Mind Blowers it was bittersweet to see Jerry's helmet in a box and the memories he chose to remove, one of them being Sleepy Gary. It sounds like he just couldn't get over it.

I mean, would you be able to get over Sleepy Gary?

He seemed like a dream, and he'd be able to plant any memory you wanted in your mind. How amazing would that be?!

Wait, hang on.

The box also had the Apples Campaign tape, which is something Jerry wanted to forget.

But the apples episode happened before they left Cronenberg earth, meaning it happened to Jerry C-137.

Why would the mind blower for it be available in this other reality?!

Off the top of my head, there's every chance it could have technically because we don't know when the squirrels chased Rick and Morty out of the universe. I'm not sure about all the cross referencing and timelines, but is there a possibility they took the family with them for some reason? I'd think about it a little more and even use the whiteboard in the kitchen if I didn't have a headache.

It's likely a continuity oversight, but knowing these two and their usual keen eye for detail it doesn't seem like something they'd overlook, especially because it was deliberately drawn and animated as a joke.

They last met the C-137 family (Well, Feral Beth, Summer and Jerry) while escaping from the Ricks I think. I remember the C-137 family being frozen or something and never seen again.

Could very well be that he just took those tapes with him after him and Morty moved to the new universe.

I didn't enjoy this episode as much as the previous ones from this season, I was expecting a huge cliffhanger from the season finalle, kinda like in Seasons 1 and 2. It seems like they intended in making more episodes this season, but it didn't work, so we may see the cliffhanger that was intended for the finalle somewhere in Season 4, in about... I don't know, 5 years?

I'm optimistic that the wait won't be 18 months like it was for season 3. One of the reasons for this is Roiland and Harmon haven't written themselves into a corner. This finale didn't really end on a cliffhanger. It was in fact the opposite - you could insert any previous episode from season 1 or 2 in here and it would flow just fine. Rick still harbours resentment towards Jerry, so it isn't like we're flying in the face of character development.

As for the episode, I loved it. I think it was one of the strongest of the season. However, as a finale, I don't think it was too good in that regard. I was surprised that the whole cloned Beth issue was brought up again, as I assumed it was a throwaway joke that wouldn't be referenced again. There was adequate tension, and some great jokes to bring you back down. I feel like the entire season has been one big piss take towards fans, but in the best possible way.

Something else I noticed was the moon landing film set as Rick and the president were fighting. In S308 (Morty's Mind Blowers) we see Morty was looking at the landing site through a telescope. It made me wonder why they'd need both a film set and the real deal, but then I remembered they changed universes at least once due to the squirrel uprising. Who's to say the universe they settled on faked the landing?

Weakest episode so far IMO, namely because it's the finale. It's good on it's own but when I realized it was the finale I was legit surprised - like it just kind of means nothing as an ending.

That's the entire point. All Rick has done for past few episodes is go on about how nothing matters, almost to the point where it's obnoxious and tiresome. By bring Beth and Jerry back together, everything is literally back to normal. Beth even says it herself; "it'll be like season one, but more streamlined".

Very solid season. Best so far, imo. I was expecting it to be a little darker since they were hinting at it, but nothing seemed to come close to Ricks attempted suicide, Morty burying his own body, or Rick turning himself in. Hence why I was a little disappointed in the finale. It didn't feel like a finale type episode, it felt like another silly fun episode. Not to mention the divorce storyline seemed to have been wrapped up too quickly.

But I don't mind the silly fun either; as hilarious and mind-blowing this season got, I just feel a emotional scene here and there would have helped cement this season as one of the greatest in television.

Favourite episodes: The Rickshank Redemption, Vindicators 3, The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy, Rest and Ricklaxation, The Ricklantis Mixup, The ABC's of Beth

Least favourite episodes: Pickle Rick, The Rickchurian Mortydate

I dnt think people should take the squirrel memory too deepley, just cos he said they have to find a new reality does not mean they actually left, we didnt see them leave or see how rick chose to deal with the situation....

As said you will have less fun if you try and analyse everything

Amazing season, stull my fave show, gonna wait some time and watch em all again...
