So, which one is better, Amiga 500 or Atari ST?

-and why?

Vote now, and you might win a Las Vegas weekend for two! Fully paid by this very forum!!! Or not, as it might be...

In my humble opinion, Amiga 500 is like zillion times better than Atari ST. Better sound system, better sub routines and so on. Also, Atari ST owners all have stinky breaths! So there!

I don't own any of those but I am planning on buying a few in the future. Both are really cool in my opinion. I am a big demoscene fan and both systems can be used to watch demos or listen to music specific to those computers. One thing that the ST has is the ability to make authentic chip music.

I put this topic here out of nostalgia.

In the good old days, when Amiga and Atari were on the top of the foodchain, there was a constant flame war between the machines.

Of course, since there was no internet*, the war was waged on the pages of gaming magazines and in fanzines (self written fan magazines). The language tended to get a bit rough at times, especially in fanzines they were written by true fanboys. Good times!

*All right, there was internet, but as it was mainly modem based local communication channel, with few modem based games, it did not really figure in the discussions.

Atari St is a swear word to me and always will be..

I was an old Amiga Dev but in my spear time I used to go into the Atari ST IRC channel and take the nick :) Ahh Nostalgia.

I would err on the side of the Amiga 500, but I didn't vote because I've never used an Atari ST so it would be unfair.  Mine was the Amiga 500+ though!  Looking back, though, I think with Lemmings I only actually enjoyed it because of the music.

Lemmings 2 Tribes was the reason I got amiga 500 in the first place!!!

Turrican 2 had some very cool music.

Xenon 2 was the next in line.

Shadow of the beast - there is going to be a remake.

Amiga also had lot of brill RPG:s such as eye of beholders.

-I remember having to draw maps on them as I went along, because they did not have automaps. Well, some did have...
