APPROVED CUSTOM RACES

[PS3 - PS4]

 

The Rules

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Post 1 FINISHED RACE that is under 10 minutes laps included and has more than 25 plays!

 

- Post the TITLE of the race

 

- Post the CONSOLE it is made on PS3 or PS4!

 

- Post a SEPERATE LINK (share - copy link) from R* Social Club

 

- Post ONE CATEGORY (Compact, SUV, Sedan, Coupe, Muscle, Sport, Sport Classic, Super, Grand Prix, Off Road, Motorcycles, Bicycles, Endurance, Special, Air, Water or Other) If it's open to all classes post the one that is set to standard!!

 

- If nominations have two or more 'needs work' votes, the nominations will be removed until the proper changes have been made. Resubmissions are limited to two.

 

- After your race gets approved or removed you can post a new one, so this doesn't turn into a 'share creations' topic.

 

- Please NO VIDEO'S OR IMAGES!

Judges will be volunteers who frequent the forum and can be counted on to review the nominations in a timely fashion.

Nominations

- All races should be for the PS3 or/and PS4.
Anyone can nominate a track for review whether it be theirs or someone else's. However, please state in your nomiation if a race is NOT yours, since you will not be in a position to tidy anything up if necessary for approval.
- Nominations should be for RACE tracks that are meant for racing and must be race-able for a new user.
- We will not be reviewing Vehicle Parkour, Gymkhana, Puzzle, Maze or Trial type tracks.
Do not include any video or images with your nominations. All the information needed can be found on the social club page.
 
The Review
- Any track nominated will be run by the judges along with anyone else they choose to run it with to get proper feedback.

- Two votes are needed to get approved.

- If nominations have two or more 'needs work' votes, the nominations will be removed until the proper changes have been made. Resubmissions are limited to two.

- Races will NOT be judged based on personal taste, judges ability to do well, or any other subjective criteria.

- Reviews will be matter-of-fact, to-the-point and honest. Please do not be offended by a reviewers comments but feel free to debate them in a respectable manner.
- Races will be judged based on the following guidelines...

 
The Guidelines

Settings

- Time was spent to do a decent title and description.
-Class types and vehicles were properly limited to what is appropriate for the track.
- Traffic is off if there are road-blocking props on the track.
- GTA elements have been included in the race construction. (GTA is an option that can not be turned off and should be accommodated) Although races will not be turned down if they do not have GTA elements in them.

Checkpoints

- Placed in such a way that they effectively direct traffic to the next checkpoint.
- Placed so that when the driver turns his/her vehicle in the direction the arrow points the next checkpoint is visible thus the path to it is intuitive.
- Checkpoints associated with jumps take into account what happens when a driver fails the jump and needs to re-spawn.
- Checkpoints on a high speed straight are far enough away from a corner point at the end of the straight to give the driver enough time to react to the corner and correct speed.

Props

Do not obstruct the racer from racing but instead aide the racer as accents, gimmicks, control devices and/or warning mechanisms.
- Ramps are properly aligned and pointed in the direction of the target zone.
- Target zone is appropriate for receiving the intended travelers. 
- Jumps account for all the vehicles available to run the race with.
- Corner barriers are placed so that edges align or at least step further out as you traverse the corner. No protruding edges.
- If barriers used to delineate a corner a barrier that is tall enough to be seen when approaching up a hill or large enough to be seen from a distance at high speed have been used.
Hazards and/or a difficult path has been made clear with props.

- Try to be CONSISTENT at propping.

Fantastich drift race! It truly is! Although, because of the small alleys motorcycles are maybe better as a starting vehicle. Great locations. Great race in total. But I'm truly bothered by the overkill of checkpoints. Can't you use prop signs instead? 
One other thing: The starting point is good, but if you finish it's just around the corner, so maybe you should move it back a bit so the finish is right after the previous corner.

I'm well aware that those few alleys you're referring to COULD be a problem, if you're hosting the race for randoms, as you'll most often get crashwhores.  However, if you're going to cater your race to a crashfest it greatly limits your creative abilities.  I try to design my races for advanced drivers to enjoy, and not to be crashfests like Down the Drain.  I believe we've had the C/P discussion before, so I'm not going to repeat myself as I know we have different preferences there ;-)  As for using prop signs, the track has already reach it's limits, and if I had more I would probably use them to improve other areas of the race before I'd start putting up signs.  In my experience very few players actually pay attention to the signs anyways, you need to put up a wall or they go blasting through.  Those who don't are paying attention to the checkpoint arrows and not the signs, as those can be seen from much further away.  The best way to deal with narrow alleys is to just stay a little off the throttle, and stay behind the car in front until you're through, then use the stretch and the slipstreams to blast past before you reach the next bottleneck or turn, having a few bottlenecks around the track is pretty common in RL racing aswell.

 

I'm glad you liked it, and liked the locations though as one of the main purposes of the race is to use some pretty unique locations that you normally wouldn't come across, and make the scenic experience of the race just as worthwhile as the battle for position.

 

As for the starting point, you making a good argument and I'll consider moving it a little back or looking for alternative positions ;-)

I waited until my thread started going strong and had a good 5 pages of constructive development before inquiring about pinning. Even then it is entirely up to the mod teams discretion if they believe it should be pinned. I found the thread to be very slow getting started but the more official the OP looked and the bigger the list got the more people seemed to notice it.

I would appreciate it if you didn't copy my post word for word though. The format is pretty basic and far from me to deny you using it...but my wording should not be used.

Hi LuapYllier, thanks for the tips, and I have already changed the post inspired by your thread. The thing about pinning was just an answer to another post, and it seems pretty obvious, as you've said, to wait this topic to be bigger and then ask for pinning it.

Good race, but in my opinion you should change some things or add some signals or barriers to aide to perform it, because I kind of get lost in first lap. Other thing, three laps seems a lot to me, even 2 laps, although, on the other hand, i liked more the third lap than the 2 previous ones, because i learnt the track and it was easier.

And that's why it's set to 3 laps :p  I figure people will turn it down to 1 or 2 laps if they think it's too much, after trying it, but you need 3 laps to properly learn the track.  I've added all the barriers I can, but because of the Creator Tools limits I couldn't add any more, if the limit was raised I would definatly improve on the pathfinding.

 In my opinion this is more a small alley race than a drift race, because you miss the open space of a drift race. But indeed, motorcycles do ruin the concept.

 

And one more thing about the CP issue, then I'll leave it as it is. I do think that if there is an overload of CP's, you're not racing yourself but the race is fully led by the creator. Then there is the vision issue. If your vision is blocked by CP's it blurs where the road is going. But anyway, great race!

I wondered what the parachute was for until i seen the choppers another great idea!
Only suggestion i could think of was get rid of the pistol so just free aiming sniper rifles are available (no-auto-aim) but thats more of a personal preferance than anything wrong with the design.
Spaceship Galaga gets my vote good work bit pie studios.

My 2 races:

Trevor's Record

Based on the all popular Criminal Records, start this lap based land race at the same prison. Jump on the road via a ramp, which will decide where you'll end this race in this short race track.

I'd say this race requires you to race at least 3 laps, possibly 4 or even 5!

 

Around the Mirror

A race through Mirror Park and East Vinewood. A lot of straights and easy turns will make for a high speed race, but don't think you can take every turn as easy as others.

Oi, thank ye! I put the pistols there so the choppers wouldn't have a completely unfair advantage. And I'm glad you enjoyed it.

 

Fun Fact: There were originally going to be tanks that I was gonna keep stuck so they couldn't drive around and be used as sort of turrets for buzzards, but that was scrapped because the tanks would glitch out and fall off to the bottom of the map.

TREVORS RECORD FEEDBACK

Managed to get 5 players on this one, good name.
Good route buti think the jump and a couple of checkpoints could be adjusted slightly for a smoother flow.
The jump has a wooden telegraph pole its easy to hit mid-air and one also when you land, i think a slight adjustment of the ramp would fix this unless thats part of your evil plan!Also the checkpoint just before the finish when you enter back in pass the guard point needs to be moved slightly, alot of us were indecisive and hit the concrete. I liked as did the other players has alot of potential to go from good to great IMO

AROUND THE MIRROR FEEDBACK
Played this with 3 others good high speed race, nice balance between the straights and the bends a some of the corners took me by suprise not checkpoint related but myself going too fast that was a good thing i dont like tracks where you dont have to come off the gas. Everyone liked and even replayed :)
AROUND THE MIRROR gets my vote
TREVORS RECORD with a few adjustments would probably get my vote as well

Sorry dudes for all the delay, I have had a pretty hangover weekend.

 

I have been playing almost every race and DM posted here and now I have to think which will be the best way to discuss with the other judges and approve any content. I have to say that I liked most of the contents, but in my opinion some of them needed some changes to be approved, regarding checkpoints, poor info and things like that.

 

So when i come with an idea, i'll share it with the other judges, check their opinion and proceed with the conclusion.

 

Please, other judges' opinion would be appreciated.

FLYING BRAVO

Really good route and track, especially like the jump very clever and good checkpoint placement just before it in case of any mishaps.Raced this track with 8 people 6 likes 2 no votes. i liked it the only thing that put me off was the amount of checkpoints your track is clear enough to follow imo one C/P a turn is enough most the time and its nice to have a couple of seconds to prepare for next turn at times. Good track i enjoyed it i cant vote yes at the moment with the amount of C/Ps but fix them and its a 100% yes vote from me.
You could just copy track,modify and re-post if you dont want to lose the likes e.t.c from original

DRIFT DAEMON
This track really wasnt my cup of tea , i played it with one other player and due to the narrowness of the track if i over shot a turn i would have tto wait for him to take it then go through after , or if one of us crashed there was no way for the other one to get around in the narrow alleyways and passages, also just a lack of passing opportunities in general
I think the track may benefit from a differant class other than sports maybe dunebuggys it feels a bit like a go-kart trac or even a time trial event I disliked it other player liked so this is only my opinion others may very much enjoy this track but a no vote from me.

@judges i think we need to up the nominations to to 4 or 5 each as i think people will be more willing to throw in there more "wacky" creations, but still only 2 at one time can be up so we dont get too backlogged!

NURBURGRING FEEDBACK

The description of this track fits it perfectly, its basically a warning disclaimer saying unless you race smart your gonna be eating alot of guard rail. Good route and close shape to the RL track, very good C/P placement and prop usage especially blocking off the driveways when coming back down vinewood hills,played it with 7 others they all liked as did I,
The only suggestion i can think of is after the long straight halfway through the map the C/P indicating the U-turn to the right and back up the hills is partly covered by the construction fence prop and the start of the race is maybe toochallenging but i think thats more to do with my driving skill then the track and the description gives warning of what to expect!

SUZUKA CIRCUIT FEEDBACK

Good race,route and use of C/Ps and props. I especially like the starting location and the prop usage for the final hairpin/chicane. Very fast track with good turns and passing oppurtunities.Out of the 2 i preffered this one but i think that may be partly due to my skill level :) Played with 3 others two likes and one dislike from the usual guy pitting everyone whole race. I liked it and the shape matches closely to RL track

FLYING BRAVO

Really good route and track, especially like the jump very clever and good checkpoint placement just before it in case of any mishaps.Raced this track with 8 people 6 likes 2 no votes. i liked it the only thing that put me off was the amount of checkpoints your track is clear enough to follow imo one C/P a turn is enough most the time and its nice to have a couple of seconds to prepare for next turn at times. Good track i enjoyed it i cant vote yes at the moment with the amount of C/Ps but fix them and its a 100% yes vote from me.
You could just copy track,modify and re-post if you dont want to lose the likes e.t.c from original

DRIFT DAEMON
This track really wasnt my cup of tea , i played it with one other player and due to the narrowness of the track if i over shot a turn i would have tto wait for him to take it then go through after , or if one of us crashed there was no way for the other one to get around in the narrow alleyways and passages, also just a lack of passing opportunities in general
I think the track may benefit from a differant class other than sports maybe dunebuggys it feels a bit like a go-kart trac or even a time trial event I disliked it other player liked so this is only my opinion others may very much enjoy this track but a no vote from me.

 

FB: I'll be looking into some of the checkpoint placements, but as for many of the turns it's sometimes key with several placements to avoid giving players the opportunity to be rewarded for poor driving aswell.  Players should be rewarded for sticking to the road/route aswell.  I'm sure there's places I can cut down on CP's though, so I'll be looking through it shortly.  (Example would be in the start, by putting only 1 checkpoint, bad players would go straight towards the corner instead of taking a wide turn, the wide turn is necessary to maintain speed, but the result would be the bad players blasting into the side of the good players crippling both from the start.  By forcing a wide turn better drivers will have a better opportunity to make a clean start without having their experience ruined by crashfests.  Props should make most of the turns quite obvious still.

 

DTD: There are plenty of passing opportunities in this track, they're just obviously not in the narrow parts.  I'll take a look at the checkpoints to see if the route is obvious enough, but really, from my own playthroughs the people I've seen end up in trouble on this track have mainly been a result of poor driving and bad user choices rather then finding the route.  It's important to note that the results of a drivers choices can't really be track faults.  There are a total of 3 bottlenecks on this track where overtakes are impossible, but then again as a driver you should be able to see the area only fits one car, and use the opportunity to enter a slipstream before the alleys open up again and offer the opportunity for overtakes.  I can't really see how the trackbuilder can be blamed for players attempting overtakes in bottlenecks or driving faster then the visibility allows.  One of my favourite places to overtake on this track is in the Up-N-Atom parking lot, just before the bottleneck found at the drivethrough, where it's possible to drift past your opponent on the outside, and enter the drivethrough in front.  It does require a certain technical expertise to do good, clean overtakes however.
