Would've liked to see R* put some kind of technique system in.
For example; if your strength starts from scratch, your fighting is sloppy and then as you reach half way and finally maxed out, your character will throw hooks, uppercuts and combos during fights.
I feel like the fighting system is bland, but then again, everyone just likes to shoot each other, rather than throwing down. (Wish they'd fix the lag though)

Also, what future improvements would you like to see in GTA's melee combat?

Number one improvement: When you are firing your gun and someone moves within arms-reach of your character, you don't automatically kill-melee.

But apart from that (which is a bug, as far as I'm concerned) I'd like to see longer punch ups available, so you can have a long and amusing fist-fight with another player without executing them all the time. So, less damage to melee combat.

I'm not setting foot in a gym unless it has a secret entrance back to heaven

That's obvious.

I think the melee is good enough for a game like GTA as you yourself has stated that everyone shoots each other anyway. When you strength starts low you cant deal as much damage in one blow as a guy who has the strength stat maxed out, so thats something atleast.

I'd rather see the stealth improve before this.

Implement the combo moves from Rockstar's old game The Warriors.

Ajax has the coolest rage combo.

I want to learn different fighting styles like in San Andreas.

U should be able to choose from traditional boxing, ninjitsu, drunken monkey, slap happy crack head...

Although I preferred the melee combat system of GTA:SA, I also enjoy the combat system employed by GTA V, just not to the extent of the other.

Also, anyone tried the bat yet? Swing in the air. There's a few attack that look like you're holding back.

That's stupid. You have a baseball bat. Nobody's going to shove that bat up your arse and turn you into a popsicle. Swing like a man.

It really sucks. Against NPC's it's alright, just a basic function and nothing spectacular. But against players, it's unusable.

It's generally too laggy online.  It's great in SP; you can fight two or three NPCs at once.

I think melee in every open world game that I have played has been lacking and isnt really enjoyable.

Try attacking when they are about 10 or so feet away from you. It sometimes works for me if they are running straight at me. Same with gun combat I find. If i do a combat role a little earlier than I would normally, I tend to get hit less by a laggy players' bullets.

I could go for that being an option in settings. Choose what style you want to use and then fights all use that. Be funny as hell to go around bitchslapping people.

Melee combat needs so much work still. its extremely poor and glitchy, visually.

i love watching my character bob his head 50x real fast while i stand there not able to move, til i die and respawn

With no lag it acually funny. You have two attacks and the dodge. Me and my buddy fist fight alot just for fun.
Then he brings out the golf club I gave him and I am dead...

But to topic, I have manage to dodge punshes in melee deathmatches more than once. Think it is a good system.

Just remember that it is not a fighting game, nor driving, flying och shooter but a hybrid of all leading to many things being not perfect but a balance.

Sometimes depending how I "roll" the analog stick I feel like I maybe could possibly be controlling the kind of punch, lead with a jab etc. Like there is some hidden fighting system

Then he throws a lot of kicks to the groin and I know its completely random

Angle has a lot to do with melee combat in GTA online. And distance
