I remember the SWAT Series and Rainbow 6.

Even though they were more like Tactical Shooters.

The market is flooded with military shooters, so why not making a AAA Police Shooter?

Different environments, different gadgets, different weapons.

Obviously you would have different RoE than in military shooters, but still...

My focus lies on the MP btw,

Only can hope for R6 Patriots. Although I think it wilö suck balls. ( its from Ubisoft and the development is a mess as it seems )

The SWAT game (3 I think?) was a pretty bad game but it was still a classic that I played for a lot of time and enjoyed. It would be cool if they redid that. Rainbow Six i'm more luke warm on. Swat was cool because you'd do door breaches, flashbangs, etc and you'd get scored on saving hostages and taking in badguys alive if possible.

Rainbow Six was about cops? Damn. I always thought it was about some CIA guys or something.

the traditional play style of SWAT wouldnt be successful anymore, I guess. Its too slow and you have to do trivial things, like taking the enemy weapons and have to handcuff them and so on.

It also had no real story iirc.

But with a few fixes, such a shooter could be very refreshing.

@universetwisters

it wasnt either. its an anti-terror unit from the UN. I call it policeshooter as it isnt about war and stuff.

Probably L.A Noire meets your requirement. But other than that, I don't remember any.

SWAT 4, yeah. It was a cool for a 2005 game. Very tactical and the levels were varied as-well. Shame they closed down the studio after that but SWAT and Rainbow Six are the closest ones you can get as far as I know.

The best sh*t ever.

Personally I would love a 70s cop game, with some serious Dirty Harry sh*t going down.

But no f*cking stereotypical disco scenes or afros, just authenticity.

(But if you are including Rainbow Six, then Rainbow Six: Vegas 1+2 were and still will be, the best motherf*cking games ever made in that genre.)

Man, Rainbow Six: Vegas and Vegas 2 were ace. God I loved those games. Would love a Vegas 3 or even something set somewhere else, but with the same game play, which was perfect for that kind of game.

That was a pretty decent game.

But the original Urban Chaos (which has nothing in common with the above-mentioned) is still the best cop game ever made.

Not even Miami Vice can top that. Best voice actors as well.

This game has been on Steam since a few months now, I advise you to buy it

It's all about military shooters now. CoD, Battlefield, Medal of Honor, etc.

My favorite cop shooter was one they had at the movie theater arcade. It was more of a SWAT game, but you could crouch down and use the lightgun to shoot bad guys. It was a lot of fun, though I can't remember the name.

ViruaCop?

Those games were great. I still play them on PC now and then.

I think that was it. This setup had a motion system where you could duck up and down. It was a dollar per play though, which at the time was very expensive for an arcade game.

I can second this, it was challenging too, I hated that one level with the burning building, actually got lost.

I would definitely like some sort of police shooter that bore the same structure as a GTA game, in that you could free roam while on patrol, be called out to emergencies etc. and eventually rank up as the story increases to undercover patrolling, drug busts etc. To make such a game work well, you would need a good company, and a modern day police free roam game could only be made well by Rockstar who are obviously too devilish to make such a game.

Police shooters otherwise don't really have my interest. They must be 3rd person and have a wide scope for player choice in gameplay for them to capture my attention and draw my interest into the character

People don't like to play as power hungry, minority oppressing bad guys who work for the rich, I guess.

Try out Door Kickers. It's more of top-down tactical strategy sort of thing, but it's fairly fun.
