Last night I went to a concert, sitting near me was a guy who was talking loudly and dropping f bombs left and right, so I got out of my seat walk over to where he was and tell him "look man I'm trying to enjoy the show, but you keep cursing and swearing I don't care if you do, but if you are going to do it keep it down!" He got defensive. So I walked back to my seat. Do you think that I was out of line or was he in the wrong?

Depends on the type of Crowd. If its all 20 year olds at some show then just Ignore it.

But if its a family event and there are little kids running around, then yea He is in the wrong.

What kind of concert was it? It really depends on who it was performing.

It sounds to me like the OP might have inadvertently, but quite politely, heckled a standup show

There are always gonna be those loud assholes at concerts. It's just how it is. You're in a loud setting that usually involves friends and alcohol, so people can get riled up pretty easily.

He could've been a decent guy and complied, I'll admit, but he didn't have to shut up if he didn't want to. It wasn't crossing the line to ask him, though. A lot of people would do the same.

Thrash metal concert - Should have stayed in your seat.

The Wiggles Live - Totally justified.

Out of line? You can't be serious. He was definitely in the wrong. I don't think I would have handled that situation nearly as appropriately as you did.

You should have taken a chair and hit him with it until he shut up.

Should have bashed his head in. Or shot him. Either one would suffice.

Used to be you would complain to the Usher. Do they still have Ushers?
Failing that the Manager/Security office.

Just a tad too much.

But yeah, you did the right thing. I can't stand people that get all dressed and prepared for concerts yet they start criticizing in the middle of the performance.

You should have called the police.

Cutting your time short with The Precinct, or what?

Anyways, I think you did the right thing by telling him to shut up. If I'm at a concert - and really any type of concert - if there's some asshole next to me causing disruption I'd either tell him to shut the f*ck up, or headbutt him to sleep because I'm there to enjoy some music, not some prick dropping f bombs.

Or y'know, maybe move your seat. That works too. Less infliction more enjoyment.

Depends on the performer really. If it was Simon & Garfunkel then it was out of line. If it was Slayer, you were pretty much asking for a beating.

You never done anything wrong, you just told the guy to calm down. Nothing wrong with that.

If you feel someone in the concert is causing a disturbance in any way, especially if you've paid to watch it. You've got full rights to make a complaint to either the person in question or to a member of security.

He was probably under the effects of controlled substances

Nicely said and probably that.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he was on something.

In that case, you should have reported him to one of the security team (if any were about).

I know extremely effective way to stop anyone from dropping the f word, but it´s a bit harsh.

Every time he/she drops the f word, You drop the c word. I did this once in underground to some brat and she went in shame quite fast.
