It's become obvious at this point that a lot of people bought into the hype. There's no doubt that GTA V is the best game out there, but GTA Online was supposed to be something revolutionary and filled with tons of things to do. They may have not said either of these things, but when they made sure to mention that it was getting it's own name-- not GTA V Online-- it was pretty clear that they were selling this as something special. So far, it's GTA 4 Online, except you have to buy stuff.
Maybe it'll take time, but it's already been 4 months and all their efforts so far have been in the area of cleaning up their own mess, and making it as hard as possible to earn money. This game has the potential to be somewhat of an MMORPG with unlimited potential, but Rockstar's goal was reached in September.
It's frustrating as a fan of GTA because they've made so much progress, but it's just going to continue to be the game that gets a ton of hype, makes a ton of money in the first month, gets a ton of people playing it in the first month, and then not much from there. Most of the people I know bought the game, enjoyed it for the first couple weeks, then put it on the shelf like a movie. The 20 hours or so they got out of it were great, but this isn't 2003 anymore. This game was one of the best sellers of all time for two consoles that have online gaming. There's no excuse for this game not being a hit for its online play. I enjoy it, but it should be better, and should attract a lot more people. Instead of being the combination of a ton of games-- a massive hit that everyone wants to play-- it's a grouping of small features from different games, leaving a lot left to desire. Instead of making the map as big as they did, they should have made things more interactive. More buildings and houses to go into, even if you can't interact with anything inside. Hiding from the cops on the 46th floor of a building in an office space would be cool. Instead, you can go on the roof, or hide around back. There were more buildings to go into in GTA 4. This isn't a surprise, because for whatever reason, Rockstar has started the trend of taking things away that were in previous games. It makes no sense.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm a huge GTA fan, and I don't understand how it's so easy to get bored on GTA Online given the hype of what it was supposed to be and the potential of what it could be. Maybe my expectations are too high, but why go so far and then stop 50 feet before the finish line? So many of the things that could be added wouldn't be hard to add.
