G-d I used to love Sonic as a kid. I played all the SEGA titles on my old Master System II, and later via the Mega Collection Gamecube release. Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle were amazing--Sonic was such a cool character. The comics were great too, as was the fantastic TV show (there were two, actually--one was for tweens and had a "dark" atmosphere, the other was much more lighthearted and I refer to it now):
I used to like Mario on the Game Boy Colour, but played the sh*t out of "Wario World 3" (if that's what it was called). Loved that game. I had quite a few hobbies as a kid, but I absolutely loved gaming--Time Splitters, Tekken 3, Soul Calibur...the list goes on. I loved GTA ever since playing III and VC at a family friend's house at the age of eight--getting SA for Christmas despite being far too young was amazing (I played it so much that day that I was actually told to show some attention to my other presents so not to cause offense ).
Does anyone else remember Official Playstation Magazine? I know Typhus does. I used to get that every month for the demo discs. Gaming magazines now are far more expensive and don't contain anywhere near as many demos, if any. There was a Net Yaroze entry every month which featured games made by independent developers for the PSOne. All of the games were great, but some I still remember now as outstanding:
G-d the nostalgia on hearing the soundtrack to this again. I was seven when I first played this--we were tasked with writing a story in English class and I remember ripping off this game:
This was addictive as hell:
Used to watch this a lot as a kid, too:
I'm fortunate to have enjoyed a good childhood. Sure, there were incidents that I won't go into which sucked, but that's the same for everyone. The best thing about childhood, for me at least, was the camaraderie I shared with my mates. Getting into trouble, laughing so much that the teacher sends you out, fighting just for the fun of it, kicking the other team's striker in the shins when the referee wasn't looking, spending hours in my backgarden shooting air guns till it got dark, reading To Kill a Mocking Bird...I had some great times back then, but it's a little indulgent to spend ages thinking about all of that now.
