What are your thoughts? Are you an organ donor? Do you want to be one? Do you not want to be one?

Honestly..I'm scared. I don't know how I feel about becoming one. I just got my licence and it came with a paper to sign up to be one. Forgive me if you think I'm being selfish, but I don't think I want to. I know there really is no logical reason to not do it, and it's based solely on just how I feel and not wanting to give a part of my body away. I'm fine with donating blood, but my organs.. The idea kind of freaks me out, but I'll be dead so it doesn't matter so I don't know why it does.

I don't know if I'm allowed to become an organ donor at my age, but I'll do it if/when I can. If one of my organs can help save someone's life and I'm dead, why not?

There was/is an old fear that if you're an organ donor less effort will be spent trying to save your life. It seems a bit ridiculous, tbh.

I was an organ donor, but for some reason it ended up being left off of my driver's license. I see no need to fix it, my next of kin can decide what to do.

As far as not wanting to share your organs, have you considered that even if most of your body dies a piece (or pieces) of you will live on if you donate your organs?

That's the weird thing though. I don't want "pieces" of me to live on in a sense. What if my organs end up saving a bad person too. Those stories about people developing traits or something of their organ donors is messed up too. I wouldn't mind if I ended up saving a child's life by donating my organs. But does that even work? Transferring adult organs to a child??

Sure. Why not?

It's not like I'll be there to see my heart or something being taken off, and if I save someone's life by that, then awesome.

I don't really know why you shouldn't do that. If you're declared deceased, then what's the problem? You'll help others and your soul will live in them. At least partially, as organ transplants may give the donated some skills he couldn't do before.

For example in some news someone could talk Swedish when he was donated something by a Swedish chap, don't remember what. It was an organ though.

I think that's a risk you'll have to look at. Would you rather let your organs deteriorate just so the chance of helping a bad man/woman is 0, or would you rather donate them with the chance you save the life of a family member, friend, or possibly an innocent man/woman/child?

I'm still debating it. I think I kind of want to do it but I'm holding back. It just makes me feel weird that a part of my body with go inside another person's. Another thing, which is quite weird... If I do decide to do it, I want my heart to stay.

I don't know where you live, so I can't tell you what the rules are regarding keeping specific organs. But, I believe in almost, if not all places you can't pick and choose which organs to donate.

I would be an organ donor, but there are already so many here in Brazil. Take a look at this photo:

Organ donors everywhere...

Everyday, at least three of these kind guys donate organs to people who actually need them here in my state. That's why I would like to thank them for their contribuition and bad driving skills.

I'd rather let my organs rot with me in the ground. They're mine alone and no one else has the right to take them from me without my consent.

When I pass away I want to give my organs away for people who need them. Everyone should do it.

Nope, it's a place where they study decomposition in different kind of stages.

I wouldn't mind. If any of my organs went to someone's mother, father or child, at least my organs have some use to save them. Once I'm dead, there is no point having organs.

I am.

I see no reason not to.

Plus, I want my body donated to science somehow, or just dumped into a hole underneath a tree. I don't want a casket.

Depends on the situation, but if its for the greater good, then I would be happy to help. The other option is donating yourself to medical universities for studying, but I doubt my family would approve. You would want your deceased loved ones to be treated with respect and not just some toy.

i don't get that?

They wouldn't treat you as some toy. In fact, as someone who has handled actual human bone, you treat them with the utmost respect. This person decided to let their bones be used as an educational tool, for the betterment of his fellow man. If that is not one of the coolest things ever, then i don't know what is.

It was really cool getting to hold and look at human bone. My teacher had an entire thoracic cage, spine and hips. The persons coccyx was obviously deteriorating and had lots of holes, plus their bottom two spinal discs sealed up together because they don't move much.

Fascinating.,

I'm not saying I'm against it, I support it, but it would be really awkward for me knowing my moms bones and/or organs are constantly being shuffled around by students, even if it is only for educational purposes. I just can't help myself

I got my learners permit the other day and it did feel a little weird checking the organ donor option. But if my organs are just going to be thrown away when I die then I might as well give them to someone who may need them. Although I can't attest to their quality. :p

My mother kind of signed me up to be an organ donor without even asking me when I got my license. Forget how that happened, but I would've chosen it myself, anyway.

If I have a kid one day and his/her kidneys fail or liver starts to fail or something of the sort, I'd like to hope that there's an organ donor out there for him/her. Least I could do is return the favor.

It becomes even more important if your blood type is more rare. I'm a universal donor, so the chances that I could help someone increase greatly just with that.

I also feel slight discomfort at the idea of my organs being passed on, even if all reason would dictate that its an excellent thing to do. I'm not sure why - there doesn't appear to be any logic behind it, only a sort of 'gut' reaction (pun unintended).

I wouldn't have cared but I heard that if you're an organ donor and get in a pretty bad accident that you're more likely to just die off rather than be saved if the people who deal with that sh*t see that on your license. Whether it's true or not I don't know, but if being a donor means I'll be more likely to lose my life in a critical situation as opposed to someone who isn't then it isn't worth it. Just because someone wants to be a donor doesn't typically mean they're willing to give up the chance to be saved for someone else.

If this isn't true then I'd be more willing to become one, but as of now I really don't feel like looking far into it and getting the facts.

I've always been an organ donor since the first opportunity I had to say "Yes."

what kind of egotistical prick wouldn't be an organ donor?

once you're dead, you don't need that sh*t.
