When a member is banned, is it perhaps a good idea to have all their posts deleted too?

Odds are, if they are being banned then they probably posted nothing of much relevance anyway. So it would just save people having to re-read their posts on older but still relevant threads.

*He suggests pointlessly as no idea on here ever gets implemented. Now awaiting the inevitable replies:

"I like it the way it is now"

"Don't like it here then leave"

"I think the mods are doing a good job"

"Why change it, its always been that way"

Upon being banned a member's profile is no longer accessible for other members, and if appropriate recent (malicious) posts as well as threads that member posted will be deleted/locked/binned. Deleting every post is only done if it is appropriate, for example when a spambot is banned.

Still odds man.

If a hacker were to get into your account and post porn (this has happened to a member before) and all your posts were deleted because your account would be banned how would things be then? The mods would have deleted all your posts presuming you posted it before looking into the matter.

There are also good members who eventually get banned as well so it wouldn't be ideal for their good contributions to be binned would it? Demarest's ultimate start to VC topic is still useful to me for example.

Not necessarily, for example before the big update where there were no name changes; people would just make a new account for a name they liked more, so the previous account would be banned.
Also like Shoumic said, as well as using me as an example (The "If a hacker were to get into your account and post porn", :p) This idea would result in such things like Demarest's ultimate start to Vice City topic being deleted.

It's better for us to keep posting history, that way we can see how terrible of a member you were which resulted in you getting banned in the first place, and can decide if you deserve to stay on another account if you ever re-registered :p

It might surprise you to see how much some banned members actually contributed. I mean, I've got over 9000 posts tied up in banned accounts -- including a couple of pinned topics in the GTA areas. Needless to say many of those posts were absolute nonsense, but a couple are actually pretty helpful even now. And I wasn't even the most productive or helpful of banned members -- Demarest did some stupid things but he was a very helpful guy and a hell of a modder. And that doesn't even cover people who were banned by request and who would, under your system, return to find all trace of their forum existence removed, or people who simply changed username before being completed wiped from history.

And in response to your whining about no ideas ever being implemented on the boards: good ideas get implemented. Your idea falls alongside most other ideas here in that it's pretty awful when you actually think about it.

Yes, I agree this idea is awful now that I have looked at it from other shared points of view. However, 99% of my others ideas and a lot of other peoples' are not so, imo.

Really now, if your other ideas were good enough they'd be implemented by now.

But keep suggesting ideas that you feel will help improve the forum, it's always good to see members want improvements for this place. Of course through whatever feedback you get in a topic you'll get a general idea of how successful each one of your ideas were.

Keep at it bro.

Thank you, if only we could replicate your attitude across other members here  :santa:
