Hi all, I'm new to the forum, but a long-time GTA fan. :)

Has anyone else noticed some of the unnecessary vehicle name changes in GTA V? For example, the Mammatus is a spitting image of the Dodo, why is it not named as such? Same goes for the BF Dune Buggy and the Bandito from San Andreas.

What are your guys's thoughts on this?

EDIT: Added photos of these vehicles for reference.

It's probably just to make the game feel fresh, I don't have a problem with it

Because it would be extremely expensive to buy the licensing to use the real names

He's not asking why didn't they name them as their real life counterparts. He's saying the cars already had names in previous GTAs and have re-appeared again in V but the name is changed compared to previous version of the car.

Because they're not exactly the same vehicles.

One thing I don't get is how the Blista was a people-carrier in GTA 3, then there was the Blista Compact in Vice City and they switched between those 2 but the Blista in GTA 5 overall was scrapped for the Minivan and turned into some sort of boy racer rice-able compact car.

Yeah, the changes to the Blista Compact are  a real shame, it was hands down my favourite car in San An. It was OK in IV, but not a patch on the SA version. The new one kinda... sucks.

They kept the name though, so at least we have that  :facedesk:

Well yes and no. Many cars have evolved over the course of the GTA timeline (look at the Comet between San Andreas and IV). That doesn't mean they need to undergo a name change.

Slightly off-topic, but I always thought the Minivan in IV should've been called a Blista. That way the Blista and Blista Compact could've coexisted like different variations of the same vehicle model do in real life.

The Mustang being called Dominator instead of Hellenback was the only one I could think of.

It doesn't matter but yeah the OCD inside me is kinda is confused why they'd change the names.

I believe the Dominator should be the Stallion, seeing as we don't have the classic one from previous games, and they are both based off of the Mustang.

The Bifta is a BF Injection and the Injection is a Big Bug. It bothers me.

It is a crying shame. The Blista Compact was such a fun car with loads of potential. I would play GTA IV while waiting for V and I couldn't wait to mod the thing - needless to say I was disappointed when I noticed the lack of it.

Pretty much my only disappointment with the game, tbh.

EDIT: I have noticed the lack of a few cool cars. Maybe we will get some kind of DLC that includes these vehicles. The Stallion is perhaps the most iconic car of the franchise in general. The same goes for the  Blista and a couple of other cars that were omitted from V. Maybe we will get some kind of website to order classic cars or imports... it  would have been cool to be able to drive through the country and come across a really clean and rare example of the Stallion, or something.

Yes! I've thought that since IV came out!

Yeah I thought it was strange how R* did not switch the names of the Bifta and Injection.

I've also noticed that the Camper from SA (Truth's vehicle) was replaced by an RV in V, which, oddly enough, looks like SA's Journey. The camper model from SA is used for the BF Surfer in V. Meanwhile, the Journey has been given a totally new look and now looks like a rusted-out Winnebago from Breaking Bad

Now, I've always thought that the Camper's and Journey's names should've been switched around in SA (the name "Camper" makes more sense for an RV than a hippie bus). R* seemed to have realized that during the production of GTA V and named the big RV "Camper", but at this point, I'd rather have consistency over correctness because SA's vehicle names are already set in stone.

Pics for reference in case my rambling was too confusing lol:
