Happy New Year! I'm excited to announce that we're going to begin this year with an official Gang Race. The OGA, Offical Gang Alliance, is our old guard of "official" forum groups dating back to the beginning of time immemorial. And now we will be welcoming a new member to the family. The details are being tinkered with, but there will be a multiplayer tournament, an OGA "social" vote, and a multiplayer gang vote, with each of these three components contributing equally to the successful group's admittance to the OGA.
We'd love to hear ideas, suggestions, and criticism, so feel free to discuss/complain at length here.
What in the devil is a Gang Race?
In the days of yore, groups on GTA3Forums.com were "gangs" and participated in the PGC, or public gang chat. The more prominent of those groups formed an alliance and were given "official" status and private forums. Since that point, gang races (where unofficial groups compete to become official groups) have been held to keep things fresh and exciting.
Why is this necessary?
The OGA has lost a luster of excitement that would be incredibly rewarding to reignite. We want to reward cool groups of contributing members with something more than just karma points or badges, etc.
What does it mean to be in the OGA?
The main draw for becoming an "official" forum group is your own private forums and access to the private common area where the site's elders gather to tell slightly saucier jokes than you'll find on the rest of the forums. It may sound a little goofy, but there's also an element of pride: gathering your group together, in fighting shape, to win this competition will say something about you. The bottom line? This is all about fun and encouraging each other to be better forum members. And a little taking the piss out of your rivals along the way.
Do we have to close our topic in the Multiplayer section?
Of course not. You can keep it exactly the same. You can turn it into a "subgang" for testing out new members. The bottom line is, how you operate your group will still be entirely up to you guys.
Will we eject an existing OGA group?
This has happened in the past but is not a part of the plan this time around. We're after a fresh start, not a bitter eviction.
How will the voting work?
Each eligible group will pick, in order, their top three choices. How you settle the voting within your own group is up to you; and obviously you can not vote for your own group. Results will be public. The OGA will go through the same process as well, so remember who you need to appeal to!
How will the tournament work?
We will be working on this in the next week or so and make an announcement when it's ready.
Who is eligible?
In order to keep the door open for everyone, we want to keep these limitations loose but fair. To be eligible, your group must have at least 10 members, and have been active for at least three months as of today. We of course reserve the right to modify this due to unforseen circumstances, but this guideline should include any group that would wish to participate. We're looking to include as many of you as possible, so if you have concerns, let one of us know.
Do we have to participate?
Of course not. This is not everyone's cup of tea and there's no reason why you should feel pressured into it. However, I'd strongly recommend it. Personally, the last gang race I participated in was one of the funnest times I've had on these boards. We even merged our groups in a hail-mary attempt to beat out Zaibatsu for the win. Even losing was a treat.
How can I help?
We need help getting tabs on how many gangs are eligible and setting up the tournament. If you have any interest, please contact the staff. We also recommend socializing among some of the other groups and the OGA. In order to know who you're voting for, you've got to meet 'em. Set up some multiplayer games. Chat in their topics. Have fun!
