I play bass a lot. I like to use the pick because it gives a more "crunchy" sound. With fast tempo songs I like to use my fingers. It's easier to keep up with that way.

Guitar here. Different choice for different songs. Sounds silly but if I want a more acoustic and calmer sound I will finger pick but if I actually want the electric guitar sound that the guitar was designed for then I'll use a regular pick.

Guitar: pick.

Bass: pick (complex songs) and fingers.

I always used a pic no matter if I played guitar or bass. I can play bass with my fingers, but when I play stuff that is at Grindcore tempos, I have no choice to use a pic.

When I used to play guitar often, I almost always used a pick.

it really just depends on your personal style + the kind of song you're playing.

playing acoustic and electric guitar I almost always use a pick as finger isn't necessarily my style, but sometimes a song just doesn't sound right unless you use your fingers. if I want or need to play quietly, I'll hand strum and finger pick. otherwise I prefer thin but firm Gibson picks.

On bass I have this kind of technique where I kind of 'pull' the strings, giving a sort of slap-like sound. Never pick on bass. On guitar it varies; If comping in a jazz tune I'll finger pick, should it be a pop/rock tune however, I will use a plectrum, for a clave style (such as Alan Parsons Project). When I play melody I mostly use a big hard plectrum, rarely the jazz type.

Definitely using a guitar pick. I don't even properly know how to finger pick.
