I like melee death matches but I really suck at them. When I'm attacked by more than one person I'm done, and one on one is also very challenging. My strategy as of now is just trying to keep facing the person, locking on to them and repeatedly ramming the attack button. Also, what melee weapon is the best? And does a crowbar for instance do more damage than say a baseball bat or a golf club?

Good to know. Any advice on how to actually hit people, rather than wildy swinging all over the place? Is there a particular moment I should strike when a person is running towards me? Is it useful to dodge strikes? It feels like it doesn't work as well as it does with NPCs, maybe because of lag or something. Is strength a big factor?

1 word that will help you win almost all your melee fights. Dodge. Seriously it has helped me a lot and I rarely lose a fight

lag is a HUGE factor in melee fights, itl look as if ur getting stabbed over and over when in fact the person isnt even striking you,but yea dodge then strike is always they way i like to go,only lost 2-3 melee fights, its good to get a whole bunch of people inside the bank & have knife fights in there

I've been in a bunch of these custom fight-club brawl death matches, and I fight poorly every time......every time.

Mashin O seems effective, slowly tapping O doesn't work, and of course actually trying to wait for openings and other good times to hit O doesn't work either.....and kicking w triangle takes too long.......

Also have never been able to successfully dodge an incoming punch, from players or npcs, online or story mode......holding x or mashing x

If it was 50/50 kills to deaths it'd be fine, but I'm dying a lot........

In a 1 V 1

1) first make sure you hold down L to lock on to them

2) keep stepping back a little and moving in a circular motion around your opponent

3) always go for counter attacks (by pressing X (xbox) or SQUARE (ps3))

4) once you hit a counter plow into your opponent 2 or 3 times then start stepping back again

repeat the steps and your opponent should die in 2 or 3 cycles.

In a team deathmatch

1) Only use L to lock on when there is one opponent close by or if you are in combat with one player

2) Follow your team mates and pile on to one guy at a time

3) If you are caught between a load of guys run away until your team gets close

4) Sprinting and pressing attack performs a very heavy attack and is useful when approaching a scene

5) Don't try to beat 2 / 3 guys alone, you may get one kill but will then die

By counter attack do you mean if he just missed you because you stepped back or because you dodged with square?

If he misses you go for one or two hits

but I meant by pressing square, once he swings hit the square button at the right moment and they won't even get a hit in

Yeah the best way is to purchase the Chuck Norris costume... You can beat up tanks with that too.

I like to start a fight with a sprint attack. I use the police baton but the crowbar and bb bat should do as these 3 weapons can knock your foe to the ground. I also suggest to dodge a lot because not only its effective it looks epic as heck.

What everyone else said ^^^ counter counter counter

and if you get that prison brawl map(http: rsg.ms/1cbasHb) run directly to the roof, jump over the side, then hop in an armored vehicle, and laugh your ass off while a bunch of kids rage the f*ck out. (I would suggest muting everyone first)
