Imagine. If they had decided to make GTA V for next gen, we'd be pulling off heists together right now, gambling at the casino, and visiting some cluckin' bells etc. Considering the PS4 and Xbox One are both available now...

Kinda makes you wonder what the game could have been, if they had us wait that extra 2-3 months... really doesn't seem like it was worth their while in the end.

I really think that R* were being pressured to move to next gen for GTA V, but they had this stubborn attitude about it and refused to give in, and the end result of this is a game that is watered down and paper thin - and only for consoles which are already outdated as of now! Sure it's a fun game for what it is, but nothing at all like what they were hyping it up to be (and advertising it to be... content creator? heists? where's the other half of the game?).

Okay, please forgive me if I'm gonna be rude, I have nothing against you.

But this thread is stupid.

How is it stupid? Just saying... the amount of time since GTA V release and today has gone in the blink of an eye. Just to think if they shifted their development to a next gen version instead they would have been able to deliver an enormously better version of GTA V. And we'd already be playing it.

Yeah, but releasing it on next-gen doesn't mean it'll have more content.

I mean, look at the next-gen games out now, the only decent ones with enough content on-disc are DR3 and Kill Zone.

And plus, "Didn't pay off"?

How the hell is a billion in 3 days and 7 world records, with dozens upon dozens of players constantly playing considered not paying off?

Uh, you do realise technical specifications have nothing to do with how much content a game can have? Just wait for the PC version, and then mod it like crazy, that's what I'll be doing.

You are right. They should have made this a next-gen only game. f*ck the installed user base of nearly 160 million consoles.

GTA V shoulda came out a few years ago and R* should've been headling new consoles with a shiny, new, next-gen GTA 6. We won't see next-gen GTA for probably 8 years. We may see another Red Dead. Bully is a given. I wouldn't be surprised to see another Max Gayne. It's a sad situation. Lets just hope that a few of the open-world games on next-gen, like JC3, focus on their physics engines and make a good substitutes for GTA. That's really the only hope we got.

GTA V had to come out son on current-generation consoles so that Rockstar could test the waters for demand for GTAO.

Even if it was next-gen, you still would have been stuck with no heists, casinos, sh*tty driving. Only thing you would get is better graphics/resolution and frame-rate.

It isn't about how long development will take, it's R*'s other projects that will ultimately hold up another GTA release. They done made their money. Now they're gonna f*ck off. As far as Max Payne being a "good game"; I liked the first two. I thought they were great games. R*'s version lacks the essence and good story telling that made the originals so good.

Yes, but size does. Each console had an 8GB mandatory install, so half the content in the game was being streamed from the HDD. This is also why the Xbox 360's ground textures were worse than the PS3's version. It was due to a streaming glitch or it not being optimized.

With the XBox 360, you had a very limited space to work with. You couldn't make it multiple discs and switch back and forth to play, because that's not good.

This'll change with next-gen consoles and PC.

I admit the story dragged out a bit too much.

Could have been spiced up a bit.

And I'm pretty sure Michael's existence in GTAV is the reason for Max's change of appearance.

But Max Payne 3 was still really awesome.

You and I are just going to have to agree to disagree about R*'s Max Payne. I was a huge Max Payne 1 & 2 fan back in the day. I'm not saying that MP is bad, because it's not. I'm just saying that I don't think R* done the original justice. Have you played the originals?

It's stupid because GTA V IS going to be released for next gen. Of course it will be digital download only. And it won't be for at least a year or so..... after most of the DLC has already been released. They will release a GOTY/Ultimate edition for download with all the DLC

  1. Your expectations for the game were too high or different if you think it's "watered down."
  2. Rockstar wouldn't have made/make much money from next-gen ports, so it doesn't make sense to waste resources on it, though I think it'll be ported eventually.

I have, but in preparation for the third one, so not exactly in their prime.

I really liked them, and I have to admit.

I was kinda feeling like donkey poop when they changed his look.

While they are a company that needs to make money, whatever happened to them being artists? I always thought their ambition with GTA games was to recreate the world outside... they've always been so passionate about creating GTA games as a form of art so yes. They should have been stubborn pricks and released a top quality game for next gen, even if it sold less. The term you are looking for where they compromise quality for sales figures is "sell out"

Firstly and Most Importantly, How in the world could Rockstar follow up the development (5 years back) solely for Next Gen Consoles w/o even knowing the build or specs???

I mean c'mon it's a closely guarded secret by console developers and Cannot make Rockstar an exception and share every bit of info that could help V as well to perform and work out better.

I think you drew the conclusion from the fact of close releases of next gen and V but again that would just be a selfish move and clear cut cheating to consumers of old consoles forced to buy new one's for the sake of playing V and forget about how much Microsoft and Sony will use the deal to extreme level to earn sweet cash in every possible manner.

This will in turn affect the goodwill and little respect the developers had in the market badly.

If the development of V happened after or close to when next gen consoles are released then it still makes sense as much as VI will be in future.

Even if they planned V for next gen then IMHO Rockstar would prefer making PC version first and once they have the specs of next gen ready for testing they will start optimization along side.

This means the situation that PC players are facing now will be the case for console fans waiting for a release date.
In that case, I definitely feel sad why this idea didn't strike to Rockstar, for once they missed the chance to present the ultimate GTA release and first hands on for PC Players :D
