Sorry if the title is to long, but how are people setting ridiculous world records in racing?

someone on my own friends list set a world record on "criminal records" with a time of 26 seconds a lap.

even when I drive perfectly with a turbo boost start and  a fully modded entity, I get like 51 seconds..

I've noticed other impossible records, are these people modding? what am I missing?

26 seconds on CR seems pretty legit no?  51 seconds? really?  It's been a minute since I did CR.. but 50+ seems incredibly slow?

You need to get a tank and turn the turret so it's facing behind you.  Then, as you're driving you need to fire as often as you can.  Eventually the tank will lift off the ground and you can fly, unhindered by stupid things like buildings.

Oh hang on a minute, that was Vice City.

It was f*cking awesome though :)

What?  It takes you 51 seconds to do Criminal Records in a fully tuned Entity?

You should be able to beat 51 seconds in any SUV.

sorry I was innacurate, I forgot I usually run 2 lap races so its 51 seconds total. which comes down to about 25-26 seconds per lap.

My friends record was 17 seconds per lap (which I just double checked.)

sorry for the wrong numbers! anyway, as a guy mentioned above, some of them are ridiculous and unrealistic. how are people doing this?

A 2 lap race in supers on Criminal Records takes sub 50 seconds... about 22.5 seconds on the second lap, first lap is therefore about 27.5 seconds with boost start of course.

slip streaming will also make you get faster times. If you have a partner you can keep doing the "sling shot" draft and get some really nice times.

He messed up the numbers.  Frankly, let's move on.  The specific times aren't the point of the thread.  The point is people are posting clearly impossible world records.

It's a fair question ...

- Criminal Records is 0.74 miles

- Fastest vehicle is Adder at 160mph

- 0.74 miles at 160mph = 16.7 seconds

So in theory a 17 second lap is possible, but in practice everyone knows you don't max out these cars for the whole lap. In practice, 23 seconds is easy enough and with things like catchup & GTA boosts you can get down at or under 21 seconds.

So how do people do 17 second laps ... I see 4 ways:
- lie

- mod the handling data files or other game files (maybe the clock)

- activate some form of cheat via the controller

- hack the data being sent back to Rockstar servers

For most online records, it hacking the data prior to sending to servers.

I know what you are saying, OP. I've noticed some world records that are under 30 seconds for races that have laps which take over 2 minutes in a super car with good driving.

Haxxxxxx.

Or leftover glitches from launch? I was setting world records like crazy the first couple days of the game, and my times were always crazy off.

It could also just be lag. I know on some racing games the records are a few milliseconds and it is because of lag or lag switches.

I've done 19 seconds on CR. OP get your skills up, bro! 51 seconds is pretty horrible. All my CR laps are under 28 seconds.

Racing with 5 other guys on a fully modded Akuma you can break sub 19 easy if you coordinate slingshots around the entire track.

Top 2 in "highest speed in road vehicle" on GTA Online are both one billion miles per hour.  That's how you get ridiculous records.

It's ridiculous that you can unlock something for getting a world record. It would be cool if everyone would have the chance to do it in a legit way but there are mostly just hackers.

No idea how R* didn't think about that.

What do you unlock? An in-game award but anything else?

If you need it that badly, just wait for the next DLC and do any race in the first day or so before the do the first update of the records.
