Another edit: Sonofugly has kindly written out some information and things that have been cracked and the tools you can use...

if anything we could use a little recap.. How far into the files did you guys get? Are there any files that have not been able to be looked at?

Agreed, I'll write up what I can remember (haven't actually played the game in months), and maybe someone can expand on it and update the OP. Sorry if I credited someone wrong/didn't credit someone.

Scripts.
What's been done: reoze was able to reverse the scripts, glokon made a website for finding native functions in scripts so we'd know what was called and how they work. Half the natives have been found and confirmed, users can still guess natives. tgascoigne released decompiled versions of the scripts (mirror).
Why: Being able to read the scripts means knowing everything that's in all missions, unlockables and scripted events. I don't recall anything definitive coming out of this, yet, but there have been a few natives found that use the word jetpack, whether those are the correct natives though, isn't known.

XBN Collision Models.
What's been done: tgascoigne was able to convert the models. He later released the full GTA V map in viewable form (mirror 1, 2, 3) so anyone can look through it.
Why: To see if there are any hidden doors, or entrances (like Vice City's Easter Egg Room). Nothing solid yet, but it's a big map and more eyes would help.

XDR Models.
What's been done: tgascoigne made a xdr2obj converter. Also works with XFT, XDD and XBN. Latest version.
Why: To get a better look at models and textures.

XTD/CTD Textures.
What's been done: Dageron made a texture viewer/editor that works on almost all textures. DLC/update textures aren't viewable.
Why: Get a better, unfiltered look at the textures and find any hidden ones. All glyphs have been found.

AWC Audio.
What's been done: LibertyV, made by kornto, can export to WAV format. GooD-NTS also created an AWC decoder that works even better.
Why: Find hidden audio. Don't recall what's been found, but tadd listened through all the audio, and also decoded some morse code.

XTYP/CTYP Model Meta Data.
What's been done: talkol was looking into this. Nothing released.
Why: Interior models are handled through these files, and without being able to look through them, it's not easy to know where interior model/props are. If the egg is used in-game, an xtyp file where tell us where it's used.

XMT/CMT Compiled Meta Data.
What's been done: Nothing complete, but CarLuver69 found some stuff on them.
Why: Information about the Space Docker's lights/horn should be kept in them, and could tell us if they're special or not - whether the Space Docker is needed for the mystery. There's also scenario files which may house something interesting.

What can you do.
'Non-technical' people:
Download and look over the collision map, try to find hidden areas or secret doorways.
Try to find native functions.
Just look over the plain-text files and textures and see if everyone overlooked something.
Programmers:
XTYP file reader would probably be the most helpful for the hunt, right now.
Being able to view DLC/update's textures would be nice. R* are even leaving unused files behind in updates now, so it'd be nice to be able to look everything over.
XMT files may, or may not be helpful to the hunt, would be good to know though.
Having xdr2obj work with PS3 files would make things easier for people with just a PS3.

EDIT: UPDATE... Well since i made this topic a lot of things have happened, i will give a brief description of where we have ended up after only a few weeks...

first thing was research into finding the glyphs and being able to view them... ALL glyphs have been found and accounted for (including the hippy camp and sand glyphs)

a lot of hard work was put in on making a .xdr viewer for viewing textures and models (people such as talkol, reoze and interdpth and more worked hard on finding the info we needed to view these files) but in the end tgascoigne managed to make a .xdr to .obj converter, which allowed us to view the files (please read on for info on the converter and work that went into making it)...

with this done the next thing we turned our attentions to was hash codes and coordinates of object and props we found in the game files... talkol, reoze and others put a lot of work into working these out for us and talkol managed to get us dump files of everything he could find in regards to coordinates... from there time was put into making a coordinate plotting tool (many people put hard work into this also) which ended with glokon making a wonderful coordinate map on a website for us (please read on for dump files and info on the maps and such) ...

The whole time this was going on we had some files of interest (secret weapon crate, alien egg, asteroid and more) which first, we viewed in the .xdr converter and things and then ended with gta_bumhoffer modding these into his game for a perfect ingame view of them (he was unable to trigger anything doing this, it just gave us a good view of them all) ...

After this and not being able to find the files we wanted in the coordinates and things and wanting to know a lot more about triggers for the UFOs and things, our big gun reoze took a dive head first into the .xsc script files of the game...

after lots of hard work and assistance from XBLToothPik and talkol and others and another great website from glokon, we are now in the process of finding natives and getting help from the hunting community to do this... then reoze can gain the understanding he needs to build the scripts for us to understand... which will give us A LOT of new things to get our hunt on lol (some tantalising mentions of the word jetpack in the scripts even came up, although this is not confirmed and may have been a false positive) ...

either way we have come a long way and many people have put a lot of hard work into the only breakthroughs we have had for a while... we all thank them for this hard work, even over the christmas period!!

----------------------------

Hello all, some may know me as the fool who spend a week decoding the morse code tapping from the underwater hatch only to be trolled by Roman, others may have never heard of me... Either way, I have made this thread for the purpose of the Chiliad/Easter Egg/Mystery/Mural/UFO hunt using the game files...

I have started researching the game files for hints (or clues lol) myself in the Decoding the Mount Chiliad Mural and was approached by Talkol (the man behind the alien runes on reddit, among other discoveries) to make a dedicated thread for game file hunting only.

So onto the boring stuff, please only post here if you have something constructive to say regarding the game file hunt... posts regarding theories and ideas may be directed at the Decoding topic I mentioned before http://gtaforums.com...t-chiliad-mural (even gave you the link so no excuses lol)

TO ALL SERIOUS HUNTERS: PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS (just ignore them and they will hopefully leave, report them by all means)

To the mods of this forum, we thank you for giving us a place to throw our wild ideas and talk with other F*ed up people such as ourselves lol please could you keep this clean for us and we will do the same. I don't want this topic locked so will be wiling to do what is needed if you see fit.

Ok getting there guys...

Disclaimer!! We will be going into the game files in this topic but we will not be endorsing modding/cheating of any kind... tools used here can be used for good and bad, so I leave it up to the users to decide their ethics and morals lol (we will only be using tools already publicly available and break no copyright laws and such) and if people do as I did and take my own game and look at the contents of it, we are doing nothing illegal... so no posting files guys, hopefully all posters here will have access to there own game files so do not need yours :) take it to PM if you need.

Right, boring stuff done, asses covered, onto the fun stuff...

As anyone posting here or with an internet connection should know, there is a big hunt going on in GTA 5 right now for... well this is hotly debated but we will say The Prize (be that a flyable UFO, jetpack, Dino or just a lame message saying Well Done!!)

This "hunt" has gone from over laying murals (which I will show below) to attempting space docking (which I hear is not something you would actually wanna try lol) to down right mad things like playing GTA without killing anyone (yes I mean you Brian!!)

Fact is there are only a handful of facts and leads on this hunt and without writing out the contents of... (brace yourselves) a 200ish page jetpack hunt topic, another 200 or 300ish pages of jetpack hunt continued, another jetpack hunt 3 (I think it was) ... an on going and closed version of Mystery of V hunt thread, the 500+ page Decoding thread (posted above) and finally endless reddits regarding the subject, I cannot cover everything...

I will however now show you what we do and do not have in terms of game file research previously done...

So, to begin... this bloody thing that started it all:

JplZBfN.png
This file can be found in the country_01 files...
cs1_10_mountainviewpoint_d+hidr.xtd (should be .ctd for ps3 but for some reason its a .cdr)

Ok good point now to address the files and file types...

Now I am by no means a computer programmer, nor am I in anyway good at getting through these files... I am google taught and just learned by watching others in the files and the methods they used, I am not familiar with the Rage Engine that GTA 5 uses or how it works... I am a partially skilled (in what I need to be) PC and tech user, so no need for being intimidated to join the file hunt if you are able and have the time...

With all this being said, here is what I do know...

so far we have been in and out of the files for various different reasons, first came the "I'll quick scan through for things" (a lot was found like UFOs, mysterious vehicles, cut content etc...) ... next came the "oh lets take a closer look" (found coordinates for a UFO possibly in the movie studio, alien runes were found by Talkol and some other things) ... All the time this was going on modders and cheaters alike were making progress on getting even further into the files...

so far we know we can access the sound files for the game, I believe people have found the subtitle files for the game also, as I said people have accessed coordinates before and then you have the cheats and the vehicles and all the other things in game (some cut, some still there, some unexplained)

Ok to the important bit...

I don't understand all these more detailed files and how things were worked out or cracked open... but I do know only 2 of the 8 possible glyphs have been seen and verified in the files (that leaves 6 we cannot say for sure where or what they are called) the 8 glyphs being: 5 on chiliad, 2 in hippy camp and 1 in the sand...

then there was someone capable of opening the files and understanding them to the point of mapping all UFOs and hotspots and also finding evidence of an unknown UFO in the movie studio (I would love for this guy to come forth and receive praise and worship for his work and to also verify his findings with us here lol)

so... only two!! yes, TWO glyphs have been found in the files...

these are again in country_01 files...

cs1_10_clue.ctd (ps3) (or .xtd if you are xbox)

inside this .ctd/.xtd are the .dds files for:

iHCfPYf.jpg
cs1_10_symbol_clue_mooncs1_10_symbol_clu.dds

and

DAZMLhl.jpg
cs1_10_symbol_clue_raincs1_10_symbol_clu.dds

My original thoughts were these are the hippy camp glyphs as there was only 2 together (both at the hippy camp) but just posting them now they have rebuilt themselves on mountain backgrounds lol

ok so I have gone on long enough and im sure others will have more to tell on the whole thing but basics are...

this is what we have been able to find regarding the mural and glyphs...

we have these and have confirmed these as we can access .ctd(ps3)/.xtd(xbox) files thanks to Dageron and his wonderful texture editor http://dageron.com/?lang=en (we thank you for this)

also thanks to kornto for libertyV which helps extract the .RPF files and I believe can convert the audio for us?? (we thank you also)

ok so...

we can open .ctd/.xtd files BUT

we have found more clue files in the country_01 files...

there appears to be 5 more "clue" files (we are unsure if these .cdr/.xdr files contain 1 or more glyphs) but as we cannot open .cdr/.xdr files we are unsure which is which...

the 5 files are...
(remember I have .cdr(ps3) but they are also .xdr(xbox) depending on which game platform you took files from)

cs1_10_clue_moon01.cdr
cs1_10_clue_moon02.cdr
cs1_10_clue_rain01.cdr
cs1_10_clue_rain02.cdr
cs1_10_clue_mountain01.cdr

which as I have said we cannot gain access to...

Now on with the discussions...

I would like to post a request to anyone who knows Dageron or if he is reading this for his help on the .cdr files or anyone else capable of opening the files (even just to tell us the names of the files inside or any other helpful info)

I believe Talkol has some news about something he found so, I will leave it there...

Please post anything you have found regarding the mystery and a possible solution to said mystery.

Happy file hunting :)

I will be editing this first post occasionally with breakthroughs and fixing my really bad engrish wangluage lol :p

Also my apologise for the long first post, was needed to cover all that has happened.

edit: oh look at that below, we can now sort of look inside .xdr/.cdr lol nice work Talkol.

One of the big things that didn't add up in the game files was that nobody found the mountain/trail/zigzag/beam/radio-tower glyph in the textures. The only glyphs that we found in the textures were the moon and the rain glyphs, and indeed they were labeled as such in the files.

One of the interesting files right next to where the moon and rain glyphs were found is named cs1_10_clue_mountain01.xdr. The problem is it's an XDR (drawable/model) and not an XTD (texture dictionary). Our tools can only open XTD files (I'm talking about "GTA V Texture Editor v.1.3.1" by dageron).

Everybody suspected that this file holds some glyphs, but we are unable to open it.

To learn more about this file type, I turned to the research from GTA IV. Since GTA IV was released on PC, it was ripped apart by the community and there are awesome tools (google OpenIV) that can open almost any file in the game. The parallel file type for GTA V XDR in GTA IV is WDR. It makes sense because the first letter of the extension stands for the platform (X=XBOX, C=PS3, W=PC).

Some info about WDR I was able to find:
http://gta.wikia.com/WDR
http://public.sannyb...GTA4/rsc_en.txt

And the most important bit of information in this post: http://gtaforums.com...rom-wdr-models/

It seems that WDR files mostly contain models (vertices and such) and they usually reference textures externally (in other XTD files). But, and this is the big but, they can also include their own textures internally! This means it's possible that the XDR file we have includes a texture.

So how would we open this texture without understanding the file format?

Open the file cs1_10_clue.xtd in a hex editor just to see what it looks like, since we know it includes the other glyph textures inside. Then open the XDR (cs1_10_clue_mountain01.xdr) and look for similar pieces of content.
You will see that in the XTD, the first glyph content starts at offset 0x2010 and its length is 0x10000 bytes. In the XDR, for some strange reason, you see some very similar content starting at 0x2010 as well. So do the following trick: copy the 0x10000 bytes from offset 0x2010 in the XDR, into offset 0x2010 in the XTD.

Then use dageron's XTD viewer to open the XTD and behold the miracle:
http://imgur.com/cr8UqgU

So, bottom line, what does it all mean? It means that the file named cs1_10_clue_mountain01.xdr is a model of some sort (we can't open it) but it includes a single texture embedded inside - the texture of the mountain/trail/zigzag glyph. This probably means that this glyph is a mountain. The name of the texture if I'm not mistaken is "cs1_10_symbol_clue_mountaincs1_10_symbol_clue_mountain_a"

-----

For all of you new guys reading this thread from the beginning - as you can see, we are using the game files to discover factual evidence about the Chiliad mystery. We have one goal - and that's to push the Easter egg hunt forward - confirm the alleged rewards, debunk endless theories using evidence, make new connections between things, and so forth. Please do not use the knowledge provided here for evil (modding, cheating online, stealing IP from Rockstar, piracy, etc).

nice work buddy... you get the first breakthrough prize lol

there is one for the Decoding thread and redditors... the beam glyph is NOT a beam/radio tower/tunnel etc... it is a mountain and a trail (maybe a river instead of trail but going down a MOUNTAIN lol)

sorry for double but here are some textures I found in country_04 files (hippy camp)

http://imgur.com/a/QMqRX

kind debunks the idea of hippy car UFO being useable lol its just a texture attached to the car apparently

edit: not all from hippy camp country_04, some from country _01 chiliad area.

Since this thread is where the main game file research is going to be - general research, not only glyph-related, I think it's a good idea to make a list of all the significant game file discoveries so far. If you want to participate in this research, go over them:

list of all filenames in game files:

http://gtaforums.com...the-game-files/

dump of strings from various files (some great discoveries in this thread):

Why don't you open the .cdr with Corel Draw, seeing as .cdr is the Corel Draw file extension.

to the best of my understanding it's not the same file type

CDR on PS3 and XDR on XBOX are DRawable files which include models and vertices.. maybe in the future we may be able to export them to 3DStudio

but i dont think they are related to corel draw

@above... some reading on the Rage Engine... NOT corel draw files...

@talkol... thanks man excellent reading and info there!

I am currently trying your technique on the other cdr/xdr files like rain01 and 02 and moon01 and 02... not having much luck lol as i said not as advanced as some in this research...

have you managed to reproduce your trick on the other clue files?

also i noticed along with the mountainviewpoint ctd/xtd (that has the mural) there are other mountainviewpoint xdr/cdr files we should try to look at?

Just TRY opening up the .cdr files with Corel Draw and post here if it works. I can't do it myself because I don't know how to get the files. It wouldn't hurt to at least TRY.

have you managed to reproduce your trick on the other clue files?

take a look at the sizes of the files:

cs1_10_clue_moon01.xdr, cs1_10_clue_moon02.xdr, cs1_10_clue_rain01.xdr, cs1_10_clue_rain02.xdr

they are all 17Kb while the mountain one is above 100Kb. from that I deduce that they don't have any embedded textures inside, but they are referencing external textures from cs1_10_clue.xtd

0x10000 bytes (65Kb) which is the net size of the 256 x 256 pixel texture is too big to fit inside

btw - what hex editor u using? Hex Workshop in my eyes is the best

holy sh*t

prop_alien_egg_01.xdr is 250Kb

p_secret_weapon_02.xdr is 330Kb

i bet they both have embedded textures inside!

@xy... good point!! Need to have a look at those also...

@talkol... ahh i see now... makes sense...

so we need to first establish a list of .xdr/.cdr files that could (size wise) contain a texture...

obviously there will be a .xdr/.cdr file that will use the moon and rain textures from the clue .xtd/.ctd ... kind of like the DR reads the TD and sometimes even contains the texture itself (like mountain clue)

I think alien egg xdr needs looking into and we need to find the sand glyph as well.

edit: @talkol... yeh secret weapon as well forgot that one... some others as well... we need to make a list lol

edit2: could you do your trick on those 2 though for us and report back? PC gone off now for the night sorry man.

All we have to do is find a way to either convert to a new file extension or find a way to extract the files from the .cdr file. I was going around the internet just now and I found a forum post where people were using G-Texture to change GTA IV's textures and stuff. Why not try using G-Texture?

EDIT: Yes, I know it says that it's for GTA IV only, but it opens the .cdr files so it shouldn't be able to tell the difference between GTA IV's .cdr's and GTA V's .cdr's.

Just TRY opening up the .cdr files with Corel Draw and post here if it works. I can't do it myself because I don't know how to get the files. It wouldn't hurt to at least TRY.

i was just about to post why don't people just download this http://cdrviewer.org/

They aren't Corel Draw files.

I only have XDR files but tadd has CDR (PS3), pm him ur email and he'll send you a couple for you to play with

using the 0x10000 technique on prop_alien_egg_01.xdr i was able to pull these embedded textures from prop_alien_egg_01.xdr:

http://imgur.com/3L0NTLy
the first piece of 0x10000

http://imgur.com/Gmnjn9h
this is the second piece of 0x10000, what you see here is actually the previous texture in smaller sizes - 128x128 then 64x64 then 32x32 (when looking from further away)

http://imgur.com/1ThR9Z6
the third piece of 0x10000, this is a bump map (adds depth to the texture), it was harder to view properly and i could not plug it into the glyphs XTD so i found another crate wood XTD it worked inside (probably format issues)

http://imgur.com/ujgW3ad
fourth piece of 0x10000, this is the bump map in smaller sizes

http://imgur.com/nxNSv6H
tried moving to 512 x 512 pixel texture (0x20000, so this is the first piece of 0x20000) but this obviously does not work except the green gradient in the middle

that's it! no more data inside the alien egg. in the fourth piece we have a small area on the bottom right of junk. i suspect that's not really a texture but the list of vertices of the model.

texture names per request (dont know which is which, these are all the strings inside):

prop_eggprop_egg_alpha
prop_alien_egg_01
#dr
prop_emmisive_anim3
Prop_Alien_Egg_01
prop_egg_alpha_n

we need to find the sand glyph as well.

The Sand Glyph could just be a bump map, so the actual texture would just be ordinary sand whilst the bump map (+ specular map) would have the glyph imprinted on it.

@tadd:
From my understanding the hex-blocks got copied into the file that were able to be opened. Hence the name rain and moon.

@talkol:
Great work!
If we only could extract the "(file)names" of the embedded textures...

Furthermore lets not forget about that face-glyph on Mt. Chiliad!
Hopefully the filename will reveal who's face it is...

Cheers!

edit2: good work up there buddy keep them coming, im laying in bed refreshing like crazy lol

can we get some suggestions of other weird files that were found (.cdr/.xdr files) while we wait...

@talkol:
What happens if you try to open all there is in the hex editor?
Won't the additional information (code, filenames, etc.) just be noise and the textures still be viewable?
