Agree to disagree then. I agree the side missions in SA sucked at times. The NGV challenge in the drydocks was an absolute b!tch for me, but the statisfaction I got from passing it finally was great. Nothing like that is present in V. In fact you can skip parts of missions if you fail them multiple times.
For the record, ALL missions are technically optional. Nothing says you have to get 100%, in fact if the game stops being fun or certain elements aren't fun, I wouldnt play those missions either. But for those players that want the challenge of these side missions why not include them?

That's a legitimate point. They could've just put them in and people like me could just opt out of ever even trying them. But Rockstar usually makes kickass games, so them removing those aspect was probably done for good reason.

I agree there are lots of things from SA that are not present in V. But there are things in V, that SA desperately needed. This time around it was a trade-off and face lift.

SA was the "fans, here's everything we could fit!" game. R* has a trend of GTA releases that do this: taste (III), taste (VC), feast (SA). See: taste (IV), taste (V) feast (VI = reimagined VC). That's been the pattern. I think V took the balanced approach.

Anyway:

Vigilante/Paramedic/Firefighter/Taxi/Pimping Submissions: Only taxi survived. Odd, I hated that one the most, lol.

Quarry/Trucking/Valet: Nadda. I miss these.

Courier missions are now done via Trevor's airstrip. You get the car and plane delivery experiences instead of the bicycle, motorcycle, and train drops. You can tow cars now too. Thus, element still there.

Imports/exports: Now included in main story missions as repos instead of find and ship. Thus, element still included.

Casinos: I hope they add 1 with various games in DLC because that would be cool. However, the stock market is still gambling and thus, this element is included.

Customizations: We still have vehicle mods and character appearance changes via clothing and hairstyles. We just don't have gyms and the ability to get fat or buff. Thus, element is still mostly present.

Hand-to-hand combat: We have new dodges and counters but a generic fight style for all 3 characters. However, on occasion each character does something unique to them. That said, training in different fight styles is gone. So, I'd say 75% of this element is still present.

Properties/Businesses: We still get both. It would be nice to have another 3 houses to choose from. Nonetheless, this element is still present.

Street/Water/Offroad Races: Still there.

Stadium Events: Gone and good riddance too.

Challenges: Motorbike and BMX. Gone. I hope stunts return in DLC. However, between BASE jumping and the usual stunt jumps, this element is still there.

Fun Vehicles: I would like the go-kart and RC vehicles back.

Sports/Activities: Element there, just different selection.

Schools: We only get flight school this time. Bummer. But the element is still present.

Triathlons: Element still there.

Firing Range: Element there and much improved.

Dancing and clubs, Lowrider Challenge: Gone. Major bummer.

Shopping: Element present.

Dating: Still there with bootycalls and manfriends.

Gangwars: Still there in a subtle way.

What else?

There are gangs in the game, you just can't interact with them. I wanna see a "Gangbanger Pack", with hydraulics, mac-10s, gang colours, stuff like that, just more levels of interactivity with the gangs on a street level, as opposed to just in missions.

I understand this is a different game from San Andreas, but that doesn't mean we can't gangbang, right?

It kind of does. The only gangbanger is Franklin, and he clearly wants to move up and past that. The idea of incorporating gang wars doesn't jive with the characters you play as.

I don't necessarily mean gang wars, just more of that street-level, hood sh*t - Franklin is trying to get out (doesnt stop him getting Grove Street tattoos though), but remember so was CJ.

f*ck it, I'd be happy if they just brought hydraulics back.

True, CJ wanted out, presumably was out for 5 years, then came back and started gang banging again. For him, it was a means to an end financially and a way to shut Sweet up.

Franklin is financially past all that and can't move backwards unless something happens to cause him to lose everything. He does not care about his neighborhood, personal ties, or gang reputation, to do anything differently.

Trevor dealt with more gangs than Franklin. Shouldn't Lamar be calling him for gang related stuff?

I agree it would have been cool to see more gang missions with Franklin before he met Michael. But it's not a big enough issue to take away from my enjoyment.

I still have fun walking down Grove St. and starting a fight with the Ballas lol.

One thing I miss when comparing SA to V is likeable supporting characters. SA had tons.

In V, I only liked Wade, Ron, Mary-Ann, Dom, and Franklin's Aunt Denise (an older G/F from SA?). Still, we didn't see much of any of them.

You like Dom and Denise? Easily two of the most annoying characters in GTA history in my opinion. To me they are up there with Brucie Kibbutz. But to each his own I suppose.

Sure did.

Dom is an authentic adrenaline junkie: intense, high energy, super competitive, and yes annoying. Spot on. He fit the environment. Denise is a strong-willed, self-centered, living in her own world moody and sometimes funny aunt. Spot on again. She also fit the environment.

That said, I liked the first 3 better than these two.

Flip this around and I can't think of a supporting V character that I liked as much as Cesar, Woozie, Ryder, or Catalina. SA's characters had unique personalities without back stories.

My Franklins only got about $8,000 in the bank....after all the heinous crimes I've had him do, I doubt he'd be too against slangin' some yayo or pimpin' out some hos to make some moneys.

As for Trevor, he's not exactly ghetto, is he? Couldn't see him wearing the colors, don't think he'd fit in. You cant get any GSF tattoos for Trevor, you can get a ton for Franklin. I think more gangberish missions and side missions would have been awesome.

As for everyone saying that there are gangs in GTA V. Yes, there are, but you don't need to act like their a prominent element. They're just kind of there..

I agree with you, early on in the game, Franklin could have done more of that stuff. I was very surprised he didn't.

V did not gradually increase monetary rewards. It went from chump change to excess. SA was a little better in this respect. But R* has never designed this aspect of their games very well.

Actually Trevor would wear gang colors and he'd do it with enthusiasm or sarcasm depending on his mood, lol. As for gang tattoos, I'm sure he'd Sharpie something appropriate for the occasion. (lmao, that would be a fun mod to write.)

But seriously, I hear you. In SA, you had to work for everything and it took awhile to prosper. You felt connected to certain groups and geographical areas. You miss the deeper gang culture (styles, family/friend ties, beliefs, attitudes, views etc.). It is there - it's just untapped. If DLC doesn't bring it - the modding community will.

Amen. It is 10 years later and I am still finding little Easter eggs and secret cars I never knew about. GTAV I've found about every car in two seconds

It sucks that the Brady Games guide does not list every vehicle. There are many hidden ones that are easy to miss. Example: Lifeguard ATV.

But this isn't San Andreas, why should it feel like it, Franklin left the gang-banging life, why focus on an aspect that has barely anything to do with the story. It's like if Micheal got a football dlc, just because he played it in high-school

They should have put the same gang elements as in GTA SA!! Features like gang territories/recruiting/tagging etc. Why put a semi gangbanger like Franklin in the game and don't give him stuff like this to do?

Now they left all these features out but gave nothing in return

Arghh, different gang territories DO exist in V. Go LOOK in those areas. You don't need a radar color overlay to locate them. Think about where they were in SA. The rampage locations are a CLUE.

Go pick a fight with any of them and you'll amass tons of red dots on your radar. Can you wipe them all out or do they always respawn even if completely killed? Try it and see.

From as far as I'd played, I recall having a pretty major gang war while playing as Trevor before going to Los Santos, but perhaps I imagined it. Oh and I think Michael might have had been green-lighted by the leader of a major Hispanic gang, which may have been what actually began the heist's and therefore the main story flow... and I've not even scratched the surface of this game yet, so I think gangs and warfare play as much of a role in V as they need to, it's just not as in your face (perhaps cause they're not all black stereotypes) and not focused on due to the fact GTA V is attempting to be unique despite being based on a previous game.

Everyone keeps saying that GTA V is another game another story. I realize this, but it's a regional thing. You would expect a game set in a highly gang populated area to have a large amount of features relating to that gang population.

Recruiting in this would make the game, that much better. I remember driving around in GTA SA with a car full of people you just met and kicking ass.

Yes, they could put some more gang related stuff in with Franklin, but the problem is: He wants to get out of the small gangster life, with small jobs. He wants to do big jobs, hence why he became buddies with Mike and they pulled all the heists off together with Trev.

So a skateboarding game set in southern California should have a lot of gang related elements?
