CJ was the best!
I know it's just opinion but I beg to differ. CJ was by far the worst protagonist in the series
in my opinion. He was always whiny and even though he wanted revenge for his mom, he still went ahead and did other stuff which was both meaningless and worthless.

CJ whined about drugs being in his hood, and about homies being turned into housecleaners. He only did those things for Wu-Zi Mu because Wu-Zi Mu became a friend, and he met Wu-Zi in a race set up for him by Ceaser, the guy who helped him figure out who killed his mom in the first place. CJ didn't want to work on the garage in San Fierro either, but Kendell convinced him to do it. The casino was Wu-Zi's, and by that point he was distracted with all the other stuff that people were asking him to do (as well as being blackmailed by Toreno, and indebted to the Don Salvatore Leonne.)
He couldn't really break Sweet out of jail, take the hood back, or go near Big Smoke because CRASH had him by the balls until Hernandez snitched to IA, and the riot had broken out.
He was definitely a huge wimp though.
Anyway, you said Niko had an interesting background, and I really wished they went more into it! Maybe with emails from family or something (I know his mom sends him one at the beginning of the game, hinting at how bad it is back home, but I don't remember any more.) All we really get is him coming off the boat, and occasionally lapsing into war stories when he talks with friends. Lots of people still argue over whether he's even Serbian or not!
