Firstly i dont understand why slipstreaming should be removed.. it happens in real life, drafting/slipstreaming is a real world, based on physics dynamic that shouldnt be removed in the interests of making things "fairer", would lovoe to see Raikkonnen complainigng to physicists about removing air drag from race tracks.... thats basically what your asking.
I agree with alot of Vooodu's comments, race types and catchup can be toggled on and off... there is a skill to racing, that skill will mean (as it does for me) the difference between placing in 1st - 3rd in 80% of your races... winning about 40% of your races 9which is inclusive in the 80% of 1-3 places for those who are a maths genuis) and taking it on the chin when something happens and you come bottom of the pile (i.e 4th and below) in about 20% (i bet voodu's race stats are about the same as mine,) for the guy who said traffic cops and weapons.,.. isnt that what a GTA race in the middle of town (morning peck-a-wood, into the grove) allow you to do??
Seriously theres some really bad comments in here.. people want to make things fairer by taking out the skill, removing REAL WORLD physics (albeit some tweaking might be an improvement, removal is narrow minded) trying to blame a lack of skill required to do races..... ive never read such oxymoronic tripe in my life... If there was no skill your win % would be 100 as Vooodu has already said.... i find that hard to beleive without rigging race results.
The SKILL comes from understanding simple race dynamics... secondly adapting to the game engine your playing on... I smashed a crap load of Gran Turismo 5, its not the same game engine as GTAV or GTA:O but tis a racing game. it took time to get used to the different game engines, but the concept of racing (you win from the corners not the straights, slipstreamining, timed overtakes, utilising environment, driving clean, outside-inside-outside)
If anyone knows anything about racing you will remember the reason Senna died.... (on the subject of custom cars vs non custom) new technological advances we added to SOME of the cars in the year before and those with the new tech won races... simple...... as F1 is a democracy alot of racers bitched and moaned about it because they felt it was unfair (but new R&D and new tech is normal)... this resulted in removal of the new advances at the request of the F! organisers (who had a dislike for senna anyway) ... removing them f*cked everything up and resulted in 2 drivers dying in one weekend.... after a number of fatality free years of F1.... This caused a huge overhaul of the safety procedures, but thats anotehr matter.... my poit here is that customisation of cars happens, in the real world... bitching and moaning doesnt make it better... there are advances for a reason... there is customisation for a reason.. if it bothers you that much save your pennies and mod your car, host a race in the category you have modded and earn more by increasing your chances of winning....
Ultimately stop bitching about it... theres a skill in any type of racing, whether its a game, snails or formula1, anyone who says otherwise is basically a sore loser and doesnt understand how racing works... if you dont agree with the way the engine works, either dont play or get used to it... demanding the game engine is changed is one of the most egotistical comments ever... for fans of Forza or GT5 they will see the improvements,,, but they are less likely to be the ones moaning as they know that every game is different and the SKILL comes in adapting their driving style and approach to suit... jsut like when it rains in real life F1 racers use different tyres and brake more careful, reduce speed in corners... the same applies to GTA:O... its a game, that wasnt built specifically for racing so doesnt ahve a perfect "real world" physics engine... but if you choose to play then play the game you bought, not the game you wish you had the money, expertise, design ability and technical knowledge to build..... when you take Chasers and Racers and turn it into one of the biggest grossing games of all time, then come at me with your ideas on how to make GTA:O racing better
Untill then STFU, i paid £50 for a game, i learned how to play it.. jsut because you didnt doesnt make it R*'s fault.. they dont owe you sh*t.... i didnt moan it wasnt designed the way i wanted it to be... because i had a 28 day return policy and could get my money back at any time, because im over 18 (actually nearly 30, bring on the "you so old" jokes from trollites, but at least mommy didnt buy my game for me) and bought the game for myself (and kept the receipt), for the purposes of enjoyment ... if you dont enjoy the game trade it in, ghosts is out soon right??
Plus alot of Racers in the Racing Tips thread will disagree that theres no skill, otherwise why would they ask for and share tips based on SKILL, not luck....
