I think Michael got a great story and his character really worked towards it. The conflicts he has put himself under, despite how long he has tried to fix them, keep coming back and it nearly destroys his family. I think he's one of the best protagonists in Grand Theft Auto.

For Trevor, he also got a very good story and in my opinion, he got the best characterization of all three of the protagonists in the story. I at first was wary of him just being a one-dimensional psychopath, but my doubts were dashed midway into the story.

Now onto Franklin... he's not a terrible protagonist, but he is my least used one. It's not that his story is terrible, I believe that it was the way Rockstar gave little of a good story to go on for him, and his character ended up suffering from it.

That fact that Michael has everything and is still miserable is an intergral part of the game's scathing criticism and condemnation of American culture. May not be obvious to the uneducated.

Michael is still my favourite I just wish he had more sh*t to do. He had virtually nothing in terms of side missions. I thought I read somewhere before release he could do bodyguard missions for celebrities.

Kind of sucks tbh.

I beat the game and I still don't like playing as him

Well there´s an easy fix in that case, don´t switch to him.

if I wanted to fix a family I would've played Sims. gta is about killing ppl and getting money not dealing with family matters like therapy, yoga, and bike riding

Well considering GTAV is has therapy, yoga and bike riding I would say that is very much what GTA is about.

I agree with you dude. The missions in the game aren't really balanced by each protagonist. But overall it's still a wonderful game, each character is unique to each of their own.

This is the dumbest whine I ever heard. First some fanboys whine about Niko's boring story, and now Michael whose role in the game is far more focused on him and Trevor than Franklin.

If I to correct you mister, Michael seems to have a very complex story than Franklin and Trevor in the game. Yes he had everything in the beginning, but what he had in the beginning is nothing but trouble and crisis that he can no longer control; he has a lame and drunk kid, his wife is cheating on him, and his daughter is rebellious to him. Yet despite those problems, he still loves his family and strives in the game to solve his endeavours either with help or being alone.

This, its seems when a gta game is released, some people start to appreciate the character from the last gta more.

When gta iv came out i remember a lot of people say the niko is stupid and etc.

Nope, I disagree. The honorable title of the worst GTA protagonist ever goes to Trevor. What a stupid, repulsive and heinous character. I dont give a f**k how wild and crazy he is, he's a waste of protag space.

Michael was interesting for a bit, but he fell flat towards the end. Franklin was an okay character, with the worst storyline of all 3. Hardly any gang or hood action in Franklin's story, what a fail from Rockstar.

He was ok at the beginning but for some reason the more the story went on the more i grew to dislike him. I like Franklin and i love Trevor, he just brings something new, that extra bit of crazy :) Michael just seemed to get more Nikoish?, boring and moaning in self pitty, then he for some reason goes all cheesey :/

I'm glad to see that most people in here disagree with OP. It seems that a lot of (young?) people expect GTA to be about shooting people, making insane money. I think the series has developed and moved on, and this was visible in the more mature Niko story. Michael's story is definitely more mature, dealing with depression and questioning the meaning of his life. I really liked it, and was glad it was something fresh. I also liked Trevor, because he would balance the game back to its roots when you were starting to get depressed by Michael. I also like Franklin, but (And I neeever thought I would say this) I kinda wish they'd added more hood stuff. I'm currently at the beginning of my second playthrough and there are definitely things I probably forgot, but I wished there was more Ballas/Vagos missions. I just played the Ballas-drug-deal-gone-wrong, and although it's certainly cliché, I really liked the shotgun/flashlight shootout in the old factory. SA vibe to it..

Well, whether you like a certain character or not, you have to give to give R* credit for the thing they promised: The 3 characters are very different and unique, and this is reflected when you're solo-playing with them.

I'm quite glad to see that many people on here feel disappointed that there was not enough hood and gang action in Franklin's storyline - even those that are not fans of all that stuff feel the same way. It's good to know this major oversight by Rockstar has not gone unnoticed.

The crazy thing here, is that the idea behind Franklin was to give San Andreas fans some satisfaction with some hood and gang action. Rockstar barely scratched the surface. Franklin just faded into the background halfway through the story, Lamar just got forgotten about, and there was no elaboration on the brewing gang conflict between the Families and Ballas. Rockstar just nose-dived and crashed on this part of the game.

Spoiler?

Micheal is (imo) the best character.
First character to have a family and i find his story interesting.

Nearly every gta protagonist had a family. This guy just whines like a baby when he has everything

He is pretty much the first one to be married and have kids.

What about rdr

RDR does not = GTA

OP is clearly an idiot.

Lock it up thread over.

Yeah, I was really dissapointed when I found out how that wasn't included. However I came across a random event which involved escorting a celebrity from papparazi (I crashed my bike and killed her lol) but its a shame they didn't include side missions.
Also, Franklins story was extremely boring IMO. Atleast Michaels and Trevor's story redeemed it.

Michael was my fave, Him ripping down Martin's house was hilarious. He had some of the best lines too, He complimented Trevor perfectly. Agree with Franklin being boring, Added nothing to the story. Really was just the "token black guy".

Michael is not the worst protaganist, Franklin is he offered absolutely nothing, I remember watching his flashy action packed trailers and then seeing 'The Underbelly of Paradise' in a leak and thinking to myself his story is gonna be San Andreas on steroids without the usual dick size loss steroid users suffer from but NO, he was f*cking LAME, no gang sh*t whatsoever, all he was good for was his his driving ability, it reminds me of that time I watched a war film called Jarhead after seeing its action packed trailer on TV, it turned out there was only one 30 second scene with any "war" in it and that was freindly fire.

Trevor however is the greatest GTA protag of all time, non stop action and comedy everytime I play with him and he refuses to be anyones bitch like unlike Niko. Michael on the other hand doesn't have a boring storyline like Franklin does but he has a boring lifestyle, all he does is play golf, and tennis, two of the most mundane sports out there but at least he had something to do unlike Frankie. Franklin had a lot of potential but R* f*cked up big time.

Michael's story is about trying to balance his relationship with his family with his gangster lifestyle outside of the home. You really feel Michael's pain when his wife tells him to just leave her and the kids alone. Another time when switching to Michael he is sitting in a car in an alley with his head resting on the steering wheel. Sort of like he just can't take the way he is living anymore. I think Michael was made to appeal to the older crowd. I'm not saying his story is terribly deep but it is there.

In my opinion Franklin's story is not about getting out of the hood but about growing up. For instance near the beginning of the game I switched to Franklin. He was trying to get back together with his ex-girlfriend over the phone from a strip club. The ex-girlfriend heard the background noise and asked him if he was at a strip club. She told Franklin to stop trying to take "the easy way".

Michael serves as a mentor of sorts to Franklin. Michael keeps trying to warn Franklin of the dangers of living a crazy life. He seems to be trying to keep Franklin from ending up like him.

He is my least favorite, but he is far from being the worst ever. Cipriani, Lopez, Klebitz, Franklin, CJ. Yep.

The only two GTA protags I really like are Claude (definition of badass) and Trevor (best missions than any other protag and best voice acting in the entire franchise).
Niko is great aswell. I love his story and his serbian accent.

You know what, and you of all people know how I feel on that stuff, but I completely agree!!

Franklin started off well, hell I loved roaming the hood with Chop, etc. But then out of nowhere after working with Lester ONCE, he gets a mansion and that's it, his story sorta stops there. Hell, both Tanisha and Lamarr are right, he may have money and may have a big ass mansion, but he aint got no friends and is always alone.

I mean, hey, if you do the side missions, technically, Trevor kills more Ballas than Franklin! Which for a member, or ex-member, whatever, of the Families is kinda weird.

They could have do so much more with Franklin, at least pace his damn story properly, you barely feel apart of the Strawberry area before you're thrown into a Vinewood Mansion which is a bitch to leave the area having to drive down those hills to get into main LS again, where as Strawberry you were near center of the city and right next to easy Downtown access.

Michael is my favorite character by far.
Cant decide which i like better between Franklin and Trevor though.

it may be because Michael is the one character that most reminds me of Tommy Vercetti, seems to have quite a history with Crime, and hes got wealth that is left over, but is on its way out.

If i had to chose to play GTAV and there was only one character, it would be Michael no question about it.

Im pretty sure OP lost this battle...

Trevor is the worst in my opinion. He's just unneeded obnoxiousness and his character is just awful. Who the hell would want to go on heists with him in real life, he's stupid.

I would. He is quite intelligent.

No he isn't. He's obviously herpy durpy.

Ontopic:
I think they're all boring and poorly written. I wasn't expecting that from R*. It's like they threw their formula out the window and started over with less talent or assertion/creativity.

AtomicPunk, you seem to hate EVERYTHING about GTAV and yet you spend most of your time in the GTAV section posting about how terrible GTAV is, ...maybe you need a better hobby? Or at least take a break, it's got to the point where I see your name I just KNOW it will be followed by you saying how terrible GTAV is and how Rockstar messed up. I mean, I know it's your opinion, but, why do you stay here if you hate it so much?
