I'm 14, and I've been playing since I was 5. I really loved cars then and my dad bought me GTA III so I could drive, and I thought it was really cool. A couple of months later I found a baseball bat, then started doing missions and now I'm here.

The game hasn't given me any desire to kill anyone, steal cars or anything, but I will admit that it's desensitized me to violence. I think that goes for pretty much anyone who has played more than one GTA, but still. Anyway, I'm mature enough to play and I think that anyone who is mature enough to play can play. It's not like the second you hit 17, you suddenly have to urge to kill anyone anymore if you did previously. If you have mental issues, then the game might set you off. Doesn't matter how old you are.

I can't say a damn thing as my favorite game when I was a kid was GTA III. I was 10 or 11 at the time. However, some kids are annoying as hell.

Thank Talos for the mute button.

I played GTA as a kid and I turned out fine. Straight A's and perfect attendance for the third year in a row, and only three more to go before I attempt to start a career as a neurosurgeon by becoming an intern (yeah, I'm pretty proud of that...). I have a healthy social life, I believe in peace rather than violence as a solution for the most part, I'm starting a family and finishing up college so, you know, I turned out okay by most peoples' standards.
I'll probably play GTA with my kid, but his/her playing time will be limited to 3 hours a day and I'll teach them that reality and video games are two separate things.

I made a post about this in another topic and got reemed out by tons of people and suspended lol, so I will tone it down.

Its an M rated game. I like going on, with M rated players, and having fun in a mature atmosphere.

The game shows senseless murders, a girl getting rammed in the poop shoot, and even has the quote

"ummm ya gimme that cum"

"your cock feels so good"

and other intense quotes.

A parent, who thinks its ok for any child under 13 to be playing that, is doing a bad job IMO.

On top of all of that, its beyond annoying trying to play, and some little turd is screaming, or yelling for his mom, in a M rated game.

IMO, if your letting ur kid play this, you might as well pop on a porno instead of cartoons.

Quoted for FULL TRUTH. Well said. I have an 8 year old daughter and will not even play the game in front of her, for reasons mentioned above. She has her own PS2 and Wii, together with an absolute sh*tLOAD of age-appropriate games for them which she's not that interested in and has expressed interest in playing GTA V, but it's only because she knows she's not allowed to.

I just have to chime in on this. The majority of responses here are very sad. But is a true reflection of how our society is utterly f*cked up. The game has a mature rating for a reason. It promotes drug use, prositutes, violence, etc etc. the whole notion of someone saying that "I played GTA when I was a kid and it didn't affect me". That part is the best. How do you know? People today won't admit they have addiction problems, or whatever. In their little world, they see themselves as perfect. You are not perfect. No one is. The parents on here that say they would let their 13 year old play this game makes me sick. A 13 year old doesn't need to be shown activitys that promote drug use. Are you that stupid? Yes you are. I hope your kids get addicted to heroin some day or whatever other drug is out there. How about you spend time with your kids? Is that so hard? Nope, lazy parenting rules the day. Just give them video games and they won't bother you. But you just say "it's just a game". Keep telling yourselve that. Over and over. Because its not just a game. Kids see these things in the game and think its cool. Next thing you know your kid is into booze and weed. Then cocaine. Sure not everyone will be influenced, I didn't say that. But it's just a game right? Right? Today's parents are a real joke.

I don't think anyone in this posting has said that they are perfect parents or perfect themself. I didn't say I was perfect. Yes I smoke weed and I drink on occasion but to say a video game will be the influence on them is pretty dumb, unless you were one of them. When I played games like GTA or watch a movie that involved drugs, I never thought, "Those guys are so cool!! I wanna go snort a pile o cocaine and shoot everyone in sight till I die myself!!"

I hate saying this because I'm really not for censorship and it makes me feel old (even though I'm only 25).

Kids shouldn't play this at all. I mean even up to 16 and possibly 17.

I see A LOT of high schoolers every day since I'm a Marine recruiter. Every day I overhear a bunch of freshman and sophmores talking about what they did the night before on Gta V. Talking about how they fuc*ed a stripper in the car then killed her. How they went to the strip club and got to see naked ti*s. How they murdered a player online saying "I fuc*ing blasted that nig*er and stole his pus*y car then i messaged him and told him his mom should of stuck a coat hanger up there so she would have never given birth to a nig*er". I literally heard a freshman say that. He couldn't of been more than 14 or 15.

I then told him I was going to call his mother and tell her what he said and what he's doing on his Xbox. Of course I wasn't, but the kid freaked out.

I just think that parents should be more aware of what the heck their kids are doing online.

As stated a few times before I think it depends on the individual maturity of the kid. I know I played these games when I was young but I never said these types of things. Times are changing I guess, most kids are little mini satans I swear. And it shows online, I'm pretty sure most of the "griefers" online are these types of kids.

Just makes me sad to be honest.

I read most of these responds and to tell the truth it makes me laugh. The people that said they won't let their kids play GTA is really funny.

1) You most likely played GTA when you were a kid which makes you a hypocrites and VC was way more gruesome then IV and V. The only thing the HD gen has over the other 2 gens is the more sex content.

2) You truly can't stop them from playing. If they can't play at home they will just play it at a friends. Plus they can gameshare and get GTA without you even knowing.

3) Let your child make their own decision. If they can handle it why stop them? As a parent you have to guide them not baby them.

Im waiting for the kids to start getting taken away by child protective services and the parents to be charged with neglect for not protecting them from such adult themes.

Kids who see 3d GTA from the time they are babies and play it from like 8 or whatever are going to be totally different from those who started on Mario.

Played every GTA.

As stated a few times before I think it depends on the individual maturity of the kid.

Exactly. Those idiots that you mentioned stand out because those are always the ones that you hear about in society. Most kids aren't like that, but there's no arguing that some kids think that killing prostitutes and going into a strip club to see naked pixels are cool. And those kids are either desperately trying to fit in, or they're just idiots. I'm 14 and have no problem admitting that I'm a bit more mature than my friends, and because of that I'm the only one out of us that has GTA V. They're all obsessed with Minecraft and Clash of Clans and games like that. And some of them are even the types of people who will go on a mic shouting stuff like you said which is exactly why they're not allowed to play GTA.

But seriously, it's inevitable that we will be exposed to things like the GTA series sooner or later. I think it's better to be shown what society is like when you're younger so you don't grow up to be a clueless idiot that has no idea how to function is society. GTA is a crime game, yes, but it's also a satire that shows what our society is like today. And in that way, it teaches people the norm of how to behave. Sure, you're playing as a criminal. But a hypocritical, self-hating criminal that shows all the flaws that you would have in your life if you strayed down that path. But anyway, this is just my opinion. Nobody will ever agree on this subject.

If your truly 14 then good for you man. Wish most young adults (since I'm not going to call you a kid after that post) were more like you.

I guess there is hope.

When your 17 I highly suggest you look into the military (namely the Marines) we need people like yourself

Thank you, sir. :santa:

My stepfather served in the military and he tells me stories. I'm actually considering it, though. Time will tell.

( Oh wait you are a fool for trying to buy more then one copies for a game. So don't say I have no idea cause you have no idea how to spend money )

I bet you don't even let them live their live. You only young once. Don't f*ck up your kids life cause you are afraid they can't make their own decisions. You guide them and help them not force them.

It really depends on the context. Is the parent around to potentially supervise over exceptionally violent and or sexual content if the kid is 12+..

I'm 17 and I let my brother who's 13 play it. We have a blast taking turns trying to get 5 stars and other stupid crap. Somehow, I just can't picture him running over prostitutes and going on a mass killing spree. It's a f*cking video game, and no matter how realistic it may appear, it's still a fantasy. Parenting seems to be a foreign concept. Luckily, my brother and I were taught better.

majority of parents dont know jack sheet about game ratings, they just buy and they never see or watch their kids play in their rooms, unless they're gamers too. gamer parents are the most responsible ones based on my experience.

I hate kids on gta when they have a mic. Those prepubescent voices screaming hurt my ears. And the mouths on these kids... I don't care for the n-word coming from black adults but 13 yr old white kids Is even worse. Makes me want to offer their parents a coupon for a vascectomy.

You really are in your own delusional little world. A world where you believe you have a right to tell people how to spend their own money and how to raise their kids, despite only being one yourself and having f*ck-all life experience. I refuse to expose my 8 - year old daughter to subject matter simply inappropriate for children, and that her brain (along with the brain of any 8 - year old child) is simply incapable of processing and putting into context at this age and I am a fool? Wake up to yourself, kid. It's called responsible parenting, something, amoungst other things that you would have absolutely no idea about and are therefore not in a position to comment on. This is not a game for kids to be playing, plain and simple and that is why it has the rating it has due to containing inappropriate material and activities that kids should not be seeing or taking part in.

It's all well and good to sit back from your delusional viewpoint with no life expereicne or knowledge about the matter and say "let kids do what they want" with no basis or logic behind your statements but be prepared for your idiotic remarks to be challenged and to be put back in your place, as I have done with you comprehensively on every other piece of misinformed crap you have posted here. Now like I said, back to the sandpit with ya and let the adults talk. :D and while you're at it, pay closer attention in school. The word is "response" not "responds". You're embarassing yourself - yet again.

Am I the only one who thinks that people should fear more about their kids being exposed to violence than being exposed to sexual content?
-
It's the hypocrisy of this conservative world, mainly in the USA, when GTA SA came out, there wasn't too much controversy, yeah, sure it's violent and yada yada, then they found the 'hot coffee' mod and then everybody lost their mind!!
Sex scenes are more controversial than killing people with a chainsaw? Are you kidding me?!
