no all the games do not do the same thing
this whole persistent upgrading perk buisiness ONLY started to become popular with games such as cod
Yes, all the game do the same thing. All games, ever. They all say "here's a goal, complete it to achieve X". Sometimes X is just victory and bragging rights, sometimes it's money, sometimes it's in-game benefits, whatever. It's always something.
This is why achievements were made, and it's why persistent upgrading was made, and it's why those things are enjoyed by the masses. It's like a game within a game, sometimes nested a few times. You get multiple times the rewards for the same time investment. Not only that, after it's all said and done, you have something tangible to show for it. These are things people like, and it's why games that utilize them properly are popular.
ow and btw I never said anything about green paint, you must have me confused with some1 else
Yeah, that was the OP. I just assumed you were the same person because getting mad about having unlockables available makes as much sense as getting upset that they added achievements to the game. I guess getting mad about not having access to enough shades of green is even worse though, so I apologize for slandering you by suggesting you said that.
By the way, I don't know if you've seen the state of most console multiplayer games, but without unlockables to keep people interested, the game becomes a graveyard. Last time I tried to play anything besides deathmatch in GTA4, I spent 20x longer in empty lobbies than I did actually playing anything with anyone. And that was over 2 years ago. And that game DOES have plenty of unlockables, from ranks to achievements to clothing to models, just not anything very useful.
If there's anything that will keep this game's online population healthy over the longterm, it's the fact there's so many different time sinks to focus on, and so many various rewards for that focus.
What pisses me off is spending 13.5k on a beautiful blue color only to have the f*cking cars start showing up with it next to me, because its the color I have.
Agreed, it's pretty obnoxious. This might get changed though, seeing that Rockstar seems to understand the value of exclusivity. For example, the fact players can't keep weapons they pick up when they go to a new session. Here's hoping, anyways.
