You can't go wrong with Maruchan chicken flavored ramen noodles. You just can't.

That Shin stuff is okay, but it's as spicy as the devil's tongue!

They make plastic bowls of it that are tons better than the stuff in packages.

I had one of these and I felt like I had bad breath still even after brushing twice.

My own Udon noodle soup is as good as it gets

For the broth: Kombu, Bonito flakes, soy sauce, mirin, rice wine - with fried fish roll, tempura batter pancake, bok choi, leek and togarashi.

I do like nong Shim noodles though and my favourite variety is Champong (squid)

Your homemade Udon looks really good. I have some of the stuff like togarashi seasoning, but I can't find fish cake or fried tofu pieces around here easily.

I make udon broth the same way as you do but I will say you have a knack for presentation!

Haven't tried the Nong Shim Cham Pong even though i've had Cham Pong in korean restaurants many times and love it!

Fried fishroll is sold in the chilled aisle at chinese supermarkets - there's a slice of it on the left side of the bowl. The tempura batter pancake you make yourself with 100ml water, an egg and 100g flour - it's on the right side of the bowl, and you get that funky shape to it by the way you drizzle the batter into a shallow pan of boiling oil.

I really like Shin Ramyun, and I like making my own noodle soups, so I had a go at making it from scratch. The broth is made with roast beef bones, roast onion, kombu, korean red pepper powder, ginger paste, black bean paste, tomato paste and garlic. When I'd drained off the stock I added miso, mirin, rice wine, rice vinegar, soy sauce, lots of freshly ground black pepper and I also steeped the dried siitake mushrooms in the liquid at this point.

I made my own noodles which were nice, but not perfect, so I'm going to change the recipe next time. Lurking in the primordial soup you will find seared ribeye beef (what I got the bones from) dim sum, fried fish roll, sh*take mushroom, red chilli, and scallions.

Even worse. We should not support the economy of the same people who flew planes into our military bases just 100 years ago. At least the Chinese haven't resorted to terrorism yet.

What is wrong with you people?!

What is wrong with having an interest in noodles and preparation of noodles? Absolutely nothing. I'm more interested in what is wrong with you - And the others who came in here to try to turn this into some sort of hate filled anti-asian anti-obama rant, sarcasm or not!

And for the comment about flying planes into our bases.. Not everyone here is an American! :)

Joseph X:

Instant ramen is good but instant Udon in every single case is horrible in my experience. I'm going to look for fish roll next time and try to replicate what you have done, though i'll probably just buy the noodles rather than trying to make them.

Doesn't Ramen use Chinese wheat-noodles?

Wooaahh, wooaahh, all I wanted was to make a little joke about this type of food since it doesn't look very attractive to me and the next thing I know, I'm being called a hater trying to start a flame war! ._. Take it easy there, guys, sheesh.

And no, I don't think something is wrong with you. As matter of fact, this thread was interesting to read since I've never seen these noodles and stuff people are talking about. But learn to take a joke, dawgs, daaayyumm...

EDIT: I apologize for being off topic. I shall leave these premises peacefully now.

No worries! It just came off the wrong way I suppose. Sorry for misunderstanding the tone and intention!

The "black" one has some extra seasoning packs, its a much less spicy and has a really good garlic taste. It is also much more expensive

Interesting, though the double price tag kinda turn me down since im expecting more spicy taste from the "black" one.

I can't eat that stuff anymore. I used to eat that stuff 24/7 because I was super broke years and years ago. These days, I would honestly rather live on bread and water if I was really broke rather than  touch a package of noodles.
