I guess the question is pretty much self-explanatory...

Edit:

IV captured the NY feel excellently, but failed to deliver the essential GTA experience. Once you had completed the main storyline, it was pretty much over.

For me it's V. There's no doubt.

Better storyline, 3 characters, fun and not "point A to B" missions, improved gun combat and more fun and "creative" weapons, they fixed the boat driving physics, plenty of content/activities, replay missions option, clother/hair/tatoo/cars customisation, much wider list of vehicles (Rhino, Lazer, Jetskis, Buggies, ATV's).

The only downgrade from IV was the physics model. Euphoria looks dumbed down and stiffer. But it's the price of better graphics in general. I can accept it. RDR? No. Graphics were great, but V has to render more at once. Buildings, real-time traffic, peds. RDR had only a large desert and a bunch of small cities.

I wanted more burglars and gargster themes, but eh, we can't have it all. I expect a really good DLC now.

V. It's just better than IV.

I'm planning on writing an epic, mammoth sized, spoiler-filled review at some point. So I'm not going to bother putting it all in here. But yeah, it's just better.

IV. They downgraded so much sh*t it's not even funny. Physics, interiors, ped damage system, parkour, humor, etc.. They also have more sports than actual criminal activities in V. Instead of fight clubs, drug dealing, house burglaries, ped muggings, poker, and kidnapping they have yoga, tennis, darts & triathlons. Sure, they have a bigger map and better graphics (RDR still has better graphics though), and a better selection of cars, but this is expected for a 2013 game. Even the story is sub-par in this.

I hate to burst your bubble, but RDR does not have better graphics, the graphics in GTA V is about the same as RDR but in modern times.

The only thing V is better is the map.But its not even THAT incredible because of the lack of dense forests.

I enjoyed them both. Probably couldn't choose between them, both had their merits.

I would have to disagree with you, tensa. GTAV has very inconsistent graphics, sometimes it looks really nice and other times it looks like sh*t. RDR holds its own, it has consistent graphics and there is not one 2d shop window or whatever to be seen in red dead redemption.

It would of been good if they replaced golf, yoga and tennis with burglaries, poker and drug dealing. In that respect I don't know what rockstar was thinking.

I'd have to disagree. I've played both on 1080p and RDR just looks so real and breathtaking. Yet in V it's inconsistent. The graphics in the city look excellent, but when you go out to the countryside, specifically the mountains, it looks like a f*cking PS2 game. Horrid textures.

Grand Theft Auto V - Couple of reasons:

1. Environment. The appearance of the game and draw distance is amazing.

2. It's fun to play. It's pretty similar to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas. Less like Grand Theft Auto III or IV.

3. So much to do. Vehicle to customize, planes to fly, mini games, diving and so on.

Absolutely agree with you. There are some clues though that hints to a casino DLC. It says "Opening Soon" on the Casino building. Why would they even have it there, just to tease us and f*ck us over? No. We will get a Casino. Hopefully it will be free as a sorry for the bad start or something. I don't give a f*ck about a lame t-shirt. Casino, drug dealing, gang activities, gang rivals and burglaries is what I care about.

IV by quite a Distance  v has been out for only a  month And im Already Back playing IV Again  gotta a new save going  :inlove:  and the more i play it the More Disappointing v  is in Comparison.  IV Is a game that for me is a  Misunderstood  masterpiece  the Storyline city Characters everything about IV has stuck with me more than any other game i have Played its  the Crown Jewel Of the Series.   V On the Otherhand just reminds me of Saints row 2 in a way  a game i breezed through had some fun With But will be quite Easily Forgotten.

IV = 9.5/10

V = 8/10

GTA V 4 life

in GTA IV, the ONLY thing I like was the annihilator (kinda also NRG-900RR but still) rest is just trash!

you had to spend a WHOLE 1 hour just to find what clothes you want! I always has to re-purchase clothing

in GTA V, mainly: GTA SA. the only downgrades are that the annihilator isn't in the game (only online? :panic:) other minor downgrades. like the police. they are super fast! all what I need is just to climb on a cliff and/or hide in a tunnel. they wont follow you there!

TL;DR: V beats IV in everything. :^:

I love Liberty City, but the gameplay is improved in V enough to overtake it.  There's just a lot more to do, a bigger map, and a better, more rich atmosphere, especially with peds.

If all those things were equal, I still would much rather play in a fake NYC over a fake LA.

I think IV is better in most ways(cannot believe I'm even saying this) but V wins on graphics. That's nothing to be proud of.

IV is better than V in my opinion. V scores a 8.0 and IV scores a 9.6 in my book. The reason why I feel this way is because I think IV felt more complete. It also felt better at what it was trying to be. It didn't feel rushed nor did it feel like certain features were just pushed in like the new driving physics in V or the brighter atmosphere. V got rid of most of the little details and features that were good in IV and that, I'll admit, irritates me the most -- as well as that magic GTA feeling that lacks in V.

In my opinion V feels a tee bit -- hate me if you want -- like a quantity over quality game, like San Andreas in my opinion. Yes there is detail, but it does not feel like everything was actually equally cared about. The cop system is shoddy, the physics are flawed according to how I tested them out, and the irrelevant details that every GTA was special for are just gone in V. :(

That is just how I feel. I had the luxury of first playing GTA IV not knowing a thing or two about it so maybe I am just different. Maybe if I would've ignored all of the press about V, then I would have enjoyed it more. But that is my opinion right now and if you cannot accept it, then just move on please, 'cause I don't think I will care about what you have to say if you're planning on bashing me.

You know, there could have actually been more crime activities in the game, like Arms Trafficking. To be fair though, GTA IV didn't have too many brilliant activities (mostly simple pastimes like bowling, pool and darts) until TLAD and TBOGT came along, with stuff like fight clubs, drug wars and gang wars. Maybe the same will happen with V in the future, though more stuff could have been in at launch. That being said, Yoga is the most boring and pointless activity in any GTA game, it's just a boring version of TBOGT's dancing activity imo.

I never liked IV that much. I spent the least amount of time playing it.

V gets my vote...it's not better than SA (for its time), but I have it tied with 3 as my second favorite of the series.

I forgot to mention this in my other post, but I too believe the graphics in V were inconsistant. At times, the thriving world could be as beautiful as real life. Then at times it could all look off -- like the road textures in an area could look awful whilst looking beautiful in another area; the shading could look terrible; the buildings in the distance could look blue and cheap while at other times they're fully visible; the polygons could look beautiful in one area and half-assed in another... I'm not being a graphics whore as graphics are only a bonus to me. The inconsistancy in the graphics just bugs me and makes the game feel messy. Like which way does it want to look -- beautiful or just okay?

The car variety also irritated me. IV had a very good variety of cars and it just needed to be expanded in V. But now we're stuck with more $80k+ cars than there are basic or crappy cars. I mean, I am a car enthusiast that likes nearly every genre of cars. I thought V would fulfill me by just expanding the IV lineup of cars whilst adding sports/supercars and executive saloons. I guess that was too much to ask. This has put a damper on the game for me. I do not want fast cars all of the time and sadly only the fast cars have okay handling -- no car to me in V handles better than "okay", I'm sorry but that is my opinion.

I didn't see that much inconsistency as you mentioned. Like i said before, V is an extremely complex and intense graphically, and has to render multiple things at once, so a partial downgrade on some assets is inevitable. Its not R* fault, it's how limited and ancient PS3/360 are now.

However i believe that it's probably the best looking game of this gen. Considering the amount of things running in background in real-time, the size of the map. the detail is out of this world. Some reviews mentioned the phrase "next-gen" assets, and i agree. I can't imagine how well the PC version will look.

V for me. IV was amazing but V is just better.

IV had a great story, probably even better than V but V has better missions.

There is simply more stuff to do in V than in IV.

As it is for the multiplayer, IV just feels empty if you compare to V. Even if there are some modes that I miss from IV.

Maybe you misunderstood something. I'm just saying that the game can look beautiful in some areas and ugly in others. Some areas are always beautiful and some can be beautiful at one time yet ugly at another. The game can look gorgeous at times, yet ugly at other times.

That's the case in many modern games like Uncharted and Last of Us. While it looks phenomenal in an area, it looks downgraded in another (especially indoors). I guess it's the current-gen limitations, they can't keep the quality steady all the time.

GTA IV had a better/less restricting multiplayer. GTA V single player has loads more to do.

so right now V is better, but unless they make a real "freemode" where money does not matter and guns/armor are free for everyone, i don't think i will play it as much as i did IV in the long run. :/

it's GTA. what's so wrong about wanting to go online and kill anyone that comes near me without fear of punishment or loosing money? :dontgetit:
