I always knew that Rockstar went to Kendrick Lamar for feedback on Radio Los Santos and West Coast Classics, but after seeing him perform live last night at my college's fall concert... WOW I could tell just from all the pre-show music his DJ was playing that Kendrick Lamar had about 90% say about what went into the GTA V Rap and Hip-Hop stations. They were blaring DJ Quick, Easy-E, NWA, and all the classics.

What? So, just because his DJ was playing songs that are in V, that means he had 90% say of what went into the game? I'm not following...

I was surprised they at the amount of popular rappers/rap songs not featured in the game. I can only guess the greedy bastards wanted too much money. Found it strange I guess that they had a song with 2 Chainz but no Lil Wayne or Jeezy. No Justin Timberlake either? Shiiiiiit!

It's final. DLC. Dedicated Bieber and Miley Cyrus station or RETURN. THE GAME. ;)

Yeah, it was discussed at NYCC. DJ Pooh, Shawn "SOLO" Fonteno and Kendrick picked out the hip-hop and rap songs. All of them. I believe SOLO said "The Rockstar guys didn't have the first clue about Ice Cube and other hood artists, so me and Pooh helped to pick out the hip-hop stations along with others", and I presume "others" is Kendrick Lamar.

Maybe LIl Wayne and Drake wanted too much money?

Sorry I read Jeezy and Drake for some reason.

Isn't Lazlowone of the person who decides what songs will be in the game or something like that ???

PS: I really thought that Dr. Dre would have a exclusive song in the game, at least 1. :(  But he's still on West Coast Classics for 5sec.

Lil Wayne and Drake don't really fall in the West Coast category, if you compare GTA 4 and GTA 5 rap stations you can see how the music style changes from east coast to west coast. I don't know why 2 Chainz is in GTA 5 it might have been a money move or something so the lil kids could relate more.

2 Chainz was featured on a west coast rapper's song, makes sense.

Just checked and your right. Although The Game has a lot of other songs that would have fit better.

Actually, artists like Drake, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, etc, had tracks in earlier builds of the game.

Lol who knows. No one does it like the old skool rappers but I can't hate all the new stuff. 2 Chainz and Future ain't bad for who they are - no one revolutionary. That was my point though I guess, whether the artist was featured or not, Cali can't be that cut off from the rest of the world. When the radio was Lil Wayne, Drake, and Rick Ross back to back there for a while, they had to have caught some of that. So it stands to reason that Cali also gets popular songs, hence me wondering why no recent "hits" were featured. Can't complain though really; other GTA games have done better, but it's still got some good tracks in it across the different genres and decades.

Hell I hate country music but I can't tell you how often I find myself listening to Rebel Radio, especially that track used in Trevor's trailer.

Hell, I'll post it here to, Grand Theft Auto V went through a hell of a lot of changes in regards to the radio, I've done an article on it (http://bit.ly/16yobvX) and have even listed nearly all of the tracks from previous builds of the game.

I consider myself to be a hip hop head.

I find it pretty sad that Kendrick is featured on 3 songs on Radio Los Santos. The most featured artist in the game (at least hip hop station wise, maybe even the whole game). The lack of variety is terrible.

Kendrick is mediocre at best. I don't understand why everyone worships him.

Great article, but one question. Where did you get that extensive tracklist (songs that supposedly were cut)? I know various previews mentioned some of those songs, but there are way more listed.

I guarantee you haven't listened to Section.80 or Good Kid, Maad City, hell even (O)verly (D)edicated

Kendrick Lamar is far from "mediocre"
