Every retarded MMO player says "dinged" upon leveling up. It's a stupid habit that should get people neutered. And that will happen when I dominate the world.

What the dictionary says:

To get rejected, usually from a graduate school.
"Man, I got dinged yesterday. The decision letter came in a small and thin envelope."

Pretty sure he was levelling up while having gay sex and getting rejected from college all at once.

I just didn't get it because some people I know say it when it applies to getting money taken out of your paycheck or billed by a company for various reasons.

Three different answers.. Not sure which one is right?

When someone dings, it means he/she levelled/ranked up.

It originates from the classic MMORPG Everquest, where you heard a "ding"-sound every time you gained a Level. :)

Used in ways like "Yay, i finally dinged!"

Some Grinders Finally Ding

The Ding-Sound for levelling up was also used in EverQuest 2.

Back in, oh 2005 or so when City of Heroes was in it's glory days, people would say "Ding!" and most people would say "Grats!" It was a nice thing then, a leftover from EQ.

Then it got annoying and went the way of the evening newspaper and Polio.

Nowadays, people say "I leveled!" and others say ..*You were kicked from the session by other players*.

It's good to see such an old tradition like "Ding!" "Gz!" from EQ appear so many years later in GTA Online :)

Question has been answered. Please refrain from asking such mind-numbingly boring questions in future.
