If they're mature then I don't care. I can put up with high-pitched voices as long as they aren't spewing curse words or screaming with their little temper tantrums every few seconds.

If they're acting like children, deliberately being annoying and immature and such then they should not play! Its interesting because its a relatively new problem for Grand Theft Auto (not the children part but the online part),

In regards to Grand Theft Auto in general to be honest I've been playing games from the series since a ridiculously young age, my parents wouldn't let me play, but I come from a family of four older brothers and boys will be boys as they say, they would often let me play without my parents permission! It got to the point where my parents had no choice but to allow me to play because they'd have rather let me play the game with an informed look into the game rather than the corrupted look into it that my brothers would tell me when we played together in order to frighten me or just be idiots like most teenagers.

That's the problem with online though, the social side of it means that you can't be sure what content your child will be exposed to in regards to language and such, yes there is swearing and violence in single player but none of it is ever directed at the player. The world of online games is not a place for children, unless you have full control over what the child is exposed to... Which can be very hard... If not impossible.

I think that kids can play the game if their parents are cool with it, but it is up to the kid and the parents to make sure that the kid doesn't turn into a psychopathic madman. And then if that happens, parents need to realize that it is NOT the games fault that their kid hates them and does drugs, it is the parents fault for getting the game for their kids in the first place. I played my first GTA game (Vice city) when I was ~7 years old. Of course at that age, kids tend to not fully understand what their doing. If it turned me into a cussing, racist asshole, I'd get teh sh*t slapped out of me.  :miranda:

The game is 18+ and that means that no underage kid should be allowed to play it.

For those who say i played these kind of games as a teen and I am fine and those who say that their kids are mature enough:

How would you react if your little underage brat came home from playing with the neighbours and told you he had seen hardcore porn?  Or smoked weed? Or drank himself sh*tless?  Or is your kid mature enough to do all that?

Parents who allow their kids to play this game are not only bad parents, they make live harder for all us gamers.  It only takes one drunk kid with one loaded gun or stolen car, claiming he got the idea from GTA and we serious gamers can spend again considerable time defending our hobby.

Everyones opinion is that kids should only be only if a)they don't have a Mic to curse and sound annoying, or b)they are the perfect co-operative player, not spawn killing or griefing or whatever. Now that's bullsh*t. I know people my age (27 for those who are too lazy to do soome maths) who swear like dock workers and behave like nuisances online. Even me, a fully grown man, can't be bothered to play by the rules all the time. I sometimes team kill, I sometimes blow up personal vehicles ON PURPOSE, ill even curse and swear to my hearts content. Is it any different because, legally, I'm an adult. No. I think not.

As for the content of this game. I grew up in the 90s, and you can hear more swearing and see more graphic violence in any number of movies that I watched my my pre-teen days. You only have to look at Robocop, Commando, predator, Rambo, Die hard. In fact most of these movies, if released today would get a far lower age rating than the 18 certiciate they got slapped with back then. If anything this game is tame in comparison to what has been before. Yes there is more swearing and you can see a bit of tit. But its really not that big a deal. Honestly

When I encounter Little kids online I just inbox them. I usually write to shut the f¥ck up or I'll come over and suck your mom's t!t's while I make you watch, then shove your mic up your a$$.

By doing that you are just as immature as he is.

I don't know about you but I played my first Grand Theft Auto game before I finished elementary school. Not only did it teach me the harsh reality of what happens when you commit crimes and play with guns, but I have parents that raised me correctly and tought me not to immitate what I see. I do not drink, I do not smoke, I rarely curse, and I am not an aggressive person.

Music, Movies, Games, and even parents themselves greatly influence the mind of a child. It is up to the parents to ensure they correctly develop.

Playing a Video Game =/= actually smoking, drinking, or having / viewing sex.

The only problem I have with kids is that they're usually too stupid to play properly. I had one ten year old wheelman floor it and drive off with our team's support van during one of those Trailer heist missions, leaving the hijacked truck and poor driver completely unprotected. Bastard drove halfway across the city before he slowed down enough for me to bail out of the van, steal a car, and go back to help the truck.,

Other than that, who cares?  Contrary to what some people in the media may want you to believe, kids are sick, violent little f*ckers by nature. Anyone who buys into the whole "society must protect our children's innocence" nonsense has clearly forgotten what things were like when they were little (either that, or they're intentionally lying for the sake of sophistry - emotional appeals to the welfare of children are one of the most powerful tools in the arsenal of power-drunk control-mongers). I played plenty of violent sh*t when I was a wee bairn, and so did everyone else I know; we had a blast, and still turned out just fine. So please stow the moral outrage and stop acting like underage gamers are precious little angels who shouldn't be exposed to things like  meth slinging and hooker beating. They're a key demographic for fun sh*t like that.

I'd say, "Did you do your homework? YOU KNOW THE RULES. No drugs and porn until AFTER your homework is finished, young man!"

Lol last night a jumped on a lobby, this kid was playing music loud as hell on the mic. And I told him to stop or I'll issue a vote for a kick. All of a sudden this other kid got defensive... Even though himself was annoyed he was like "why don't you just mute the c*ck, sucker! Dumb ass beaner"

I'm like wtf, I am not even Hispanic Lol. Then he kept throwing racial slurs at me, when I told him to stop or else I'll make his GTA o life help, he proceeded to telling me how he sounded 12 but screwed so many hs girls, how he has a job and he bought the game on his own, ROFL.

So I kept sending mercs at him, and he is like you can't kill me you noob. Then I repeatedly put bounties on him, until he got tired and left. I followed him, and kept doing the same thing. Then he proceeds to leave GTA O and spam my psn inbox with "bitch" repeatedly. Effing hilarious!

@cowboytorry

The game gets rated 18+ just means no one under that age can buy it not who can play it.

Just like ciggerettes in the uk 18 to buy them no age to smoke them. Altho it would be frowned upon if you let a child of 10 smoke.

Aslong as the people on games stayed mature and didnt abuse the right to have a global connection with there voice then non of this would be necessary. Playing games like BF3 on the ps3 was great mature gamers the odd brat but swiftly delt with but other games like cod and its non stop high pitched screams and profanity.

Gta v could be a great game online if you had full sessions everyone was mature and it took planning gathering buying selling to obtain hiests. Missions could lead you to items needed for certain heists. But this would only happen with a mature player base working together in sessions. With the pay cuts and glitches gone (soonTM) low pay missions to gain items needed for high paid heists would work well

Well, I'm 16 and yeah, I may not be quite 'old enough' to play GTA, but I feel responsible and 'mature' enough to understand the violence, swearing and all the other stuff that the series is renowned for. I feel I'm at the age at which I can appreciate these things and understand them. I certainly wouldn't have understood the political satire that they've interwoven throughout the story a few years ago! I did play GTA IV, but I only bought it a few years back, once I felt I was ready.

I remember watching my cousins play GTA Vice City and sniping people's heads off in the Malibu club when I was about 7 years old. It was just harmless fun. It never gave me nightmares, it was quite funny at the time. Say what you want about that, but I haven't grown up to be some vile person that wants to go on a killing spree.

Basically, as Jagblade said, its up to the parents to teach a child what is right or wrong. I've seen far worse in some movies anyway... Midnight Meat Train, I'm looking at you! I bought it expecting a thriller, not a horror movie! It became quite laughable towards the end. I just couldn't take it seriously! It was quite gory really... to an unnecessary extent - so much so that I switched it off.

I also blame the gun culture in America. Don't hate on me for this as I fully understand why they're used, what with the Constitution saying that you have "the right to bear arms". All I'm saying is that if gun controls were as tight as here in Britain, you wouldn't have as many killing sprees by people who have gone totally crazy. I still don't understand the need for assault rifles. They're only supposed to be used in wars IMO. You can protect yourself just as effectively with a pistol and hunting can be done using sniper rifles or whatever else.

the rating of M for the game only applies to buying the game . so an adult has to buy the game . there is no law that stops a kid playing any game they want.

so the poll is 100% moot.

Played a survival with three 9 year olds last night... very annoying and condescending attitude towards outsiders.  Once they were all dead on wave 4 they realized they needed my assistance LOL. Wasn't such a loser after that.

It's down to their maturity. Anyone at any age can act immature. OP, what about the adults who throw racial slurs around? I have heard it a few times, should they also be stopped from playing GTA or is it OK? Personally, for me, I don't care. You come across decent and mature players who are under age and can come across complete c*nts who are of age to play this game.

Roadside- dude that sucks.

What's worse than that? Logging into a game to be insulted by 10 9-14 year olds - happened right now. I would love to see them do that IRL. Kids have HUGE ego's online and think they're better than anyone else. What ever happened to socializing and going outside to play? Some of these games are adult entertainment, it's borderline taking your kid to a strip club... oh wait, they can do that too. The game and R* are great, it's all these idiot parents that just give them these games so they can be lazy and not attend to their own kids, who then turn their problems and anger onto others online and grow, like you said Roadside, an online thug RP/personality that is then carried out IRL eventually.

That's a bit all-inclusive man, I think maybe you should re-evaluate the statement. Some adults will be immature, some may be hypocrites, some will be great, etc.

It's called diversity.

Maybe next time try not to judge EVERYONE based off one person's opinion or reaction? :bbq:

Don't care if kids play tbh, truth be told I imagine most of the hardcore GTA fans played one of the previous games while being underage.

I was prob around 10 or 11 when I first played gta 1.

That said I wish there was a age restriction on microphones.

Answer me this though, you played games before that right? You didnt just jump into GTA at age 11 without ever playing say mario or something right?

You didnt spend your earliest years of life while unable to even talk, watching people stab and rob hookers, beat people with a bat 900 times in the street while laughing about it?

Im one to argue AGAINST the idea that violent video games make violent people.. but who knows when youre letting babies and prepubescent children watch it.. or worse, play it.

TBH I wouldnt be surprised if a news story comes out about a kid being taken away because they were too young and the parents neglected them by allowing them to play.

The strippers have real tits(for the first time), thats straight up porno.. 18+ you let your kids watch that youre breaking laws... I actually cant believe it didnt get AO with that and it being implied that trevor raped a man.

All you adults that hate children playing the game so much seem to be just as immature.

TBH when growing up you tell yourself "That's not fair!" when being given the sh*t end of the stick or not included or w.e

When you grow up, you understand.. "That's life" and you will tell others the same thing...

Kids have annoying voices and act childish, many adults who have to deal with their own kids don't log on to an adult game to hear little kiddies screaming about how they dont have a gun and not to kill them or whatever retarded crap it is this time.

Those adults who feel that way, have the law on their side. That's life.

The ones who are either are acting like douchebags or just are simply childish, shouldn't be playing this game. Or the ones who don't own any kind of moral.

Sure I appreciate the young people who can act nicely and respect others.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the tits. It's definitely not porn. I don't get why Americans start tripping when they see a nipple in a movie for example. At least in my home country which is located in northern Europe, there's titties even in +13 movies.

This isnt europe where newspapers have pron in them, its the US where a titty on TV gets you sued or hatemail bombed by up tight mothers etc.

Theres nothing wrong with tits, I love em, I love nasty buttsecks and such.. but the law says nudity = AO = no advertising = strict anti kid selling policies.

Also, from what I hear in the UK its actually illegal for a kid to play a game rated above their age.

Really, this is all I should have said.

If it's okay for kids to see tits, why arent they allowed in strip clubs? Would you bring your 6yo to a strip club if you could? I think your wife would split up with you for it.. and again, child protective services dont take kindly to neglect of parental duties to protect a child from that kind of thing.

It's science, your brain doesn't fully develop until between ages 21-25.. there is a physical and hard proven reason why kids are annoying. It's not your fault and there isn't much at all you can do to change it.. besides making a constantly active attempt to chill the f*ck out and not be such a spazz.

People vote that they don't believe kids should play...

But if you were 14, wouldn't you want to be playing this? And, no matter what anyone said, it wouldn't stop you from wanting to play?

I believe it should (as is) be up to the parents. If my child demonstrated that he/she were mature enough to handle it, I'd allow them. Otherwise, of course, I wouldn't.
