Dude, you would have to have like a 25' TV screen for it to even be enjoyable.

difficult to implement that online..
i guess it would have been nice in single player. one plays as michael the other with trevor for example.. but i think that's going to put a serious load on the old consoles to render 2 screens

hahaha the xbox/ps3 can barely run one instance of the game sometimes. can you imagine them trying to process two different people at the same time?

Either you're young or have little knowledge about consoles.
There's two reasons why there will likely (there are exceptions, of course) never be splitscreen for major open world games, at least for this generation:
1.) Hardware limitations - GTA Online is actually tuned down (somewhat slightly) in order to host 16 players at once; a single 360 wouldn't be able to host two of those players simultaneously without making a LOT of cutbacks and rendering. Your game would either look horrific or would be totally unplayable.
2.) (And to a somewhat lesser extent...) If splitscreen is included, that's potentially less sales, as people can access their friends' games without needing their own. Whereas, if the only option to play together is to both have a copy, you're likely both going to buy a copy if you DO want to play.

To reinforce Point #1, online multiplayer also utilizes cloud computing technology. (Using multiple CPUs to accomplish more computations in a shorter time than one CPU can perform)Either you're young or have little knowledge about consoles.

With splitscreen, it is the total opposite, performing twice as much computation on just one CPU.

Guys come on! This is a great idea! Who care's if your game will run at 10 fps?

Oh, Lord - I didn't even consider that.
They'd have double the cloud problems that they had at launch.

Why not make it 4 player while were at it? It's no like the consoles can't handle it

I know, right? Considering its not doable on SP without huge sacrifices, I dont even want to know what MP would be like with it.Oh, Lord - I didn't even consider that.

People really are clueless about technical limitations, this would be difficult, if not impossible even on next gen consoles.
Doable on the next gen i'd say

Possible but who knows..
You can see how many corners they cut just to get MP. Traffic is about half, and you can tell AI stutters sometimes and draw distance or pop in. Not a big deal but trying to do it all twice is impossible on current gen
