I disagree

Not that RDR is a Bad game, It's a really great game.

 But my issues:

1. Mexico could've been cut from the game completely without disrupting the story, showing just how much filler there was there.

2. The customization in the game was pitiful. Was really hoping for a wide array of various wild west clothes to wears, including badannas, cowboy hats, cowboy boots, various vests, jackets, etc. I was also hoping maybe for some tattoes, and various facial hair options as well.

3, None of the side missions were that much of a standout

4. I wished for more towns and cities. A few here and there, with a vast amount of nothing in between.

5. I felt like the ending and the music is why I remember this game so fondly..take that away, and simply looking at the journey felt very plain and filler-ish...not many WOWW missions.

6. I wanted a Native American section of a game..just I wanted the game to keep going felt it ended way to soon..maybe have Marston get injured and have the doctors native assistant take him to the hills and his native family and take care of him and just have alot of missions deal with there struggles in this growing new world.

7. I feel like we were introducted to Johns family way to late. I seriously wouldn't of minded another 10 missions and a few years to skip by to really get a feel for that emotional loss they experienced.

8. Horses aren't as fun as cars

So Overall it's a great, great game. One of my favorites. But I never really have that itch to just replay it like I do with GTA games..simply because I don't really find the game to be that exciting or thrilling like I do with GTA.

It does alot, and I mean ALOT of things right. Great Protagonist, lots of great side characters, really emotional narrative (mainly the last 2/3rds), really beautiful world (even though it's mainly empty desserts and canyons), and cool side activities like poker.

But at the same time I feel it could be EVEN BETTER than what it currently is. There's room for improvement and growth as far as I'm concerned.

RDR is inferior to GTA V in every way. I mean no disrespect to RDR, considering that many of RDR's mechanics helped carve gta 5 into what it is, but gta 5 is undoubtedly superior to RDR and any other game out there right now. GTA V is not just a game, it's an alternate reality.

Are you kidding me? RDR countryside is WAY......... Better GTA V. John Marston is way better then all three characters combine. GTA V felt rush. Even IV never felt rush. V's main focus was the online. Which is the BEST Rockstar online out there.

GTA5 has not blown me away like RDR did. So yeah I do agree with you op. The only thing GTA5 has going for it is the Online mode, which if it had not been fixed could have been the element of the game that dragged it down. The SP part of the game might as well not have been even shipped, still it was slightly better than GTA4 and thats saying something.

To you, to the rest of the world GTA V is a masterpiece and considered the best game of all time.

I love GTA V but you are not helping our cause. RDR is a masterpiece as well.

Did little RDR accomplish this? Nope. GTA V, UNDISPUTED goat game:

-Best-selling action-adventure videogame in 24 hours

-Best-selling videogame in 24 hours

-Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion

-Fastest videogame to gross $1 billion
Highest grossing videogame in 24 hours

-Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours

-Most viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame

Sales don't mean everything. RDR also sold tons of copies. :)

Didn't break those records :). GTA V > RDR, that's a FACT.
Ugh, haven't you heard of OPINION?
Most people prefer GTA V to Big Rigs: Over the road racing.
It's not fact, it's their opinion.

I've only recently played RDR a couple of weeks before GTA v came out. It was ok, the world is completely empty compared to GTA v and I haven't gone back to RDR since(that says it all for me really)

CoD also breaks records, so does Pokemon and I think Aliens Colonial Marines did earlier in the year. Doesn't mean they're good games though and in the case of ACM it was a pile of dog sh*te that was traded in within days.

RDR> GTA5 that is a FACT based on MY opinion.  ;)

Holy sh*t, why are people arguing with StarVisitor? Didn't your mom tell you not to argue with trolls, fanboys or trolling fanboys?

On topic: Story and atmosphere wise i prefer RDR but when it comes to gameplay or setting i'd prefer GTA V.

It must also be noted that expectations for Red Dead Redemption weren't too high.  Most people were genuinely surprised by it.  Hell, it was so good that "word of mouth" got its sales up to levels that are only beaten by GTA and CoD.

GTA V, on the other hand, was expected to be the best thing since sliced bread.  As I've said before, it's an absolutely outstanding game, but expectations were also much higher with this game.  So, disappointments were imminent.

It's a tough call. RDR is my favourite game of all time, but I think that's more about setting and atmosphere than game mechanics. GTAV is, overall, a BETTER game, but I don't think I got as much out of it.

P.S. If you're the sort of dick that just types 'No' in a thread, get the f*ck out and stop wasting everyone's time. Dicks.

I must say that if RDR2 isn't exactly the same as the first one people are going to tear it apart like they do the GTAs after SA. RDR had the luxury of being the first in it's series which made it a blank canvas. Red Dead Revolver was pretty obscure so there was nothing previous to compare it to. The next one has almost higher standards to live up to than GTA does,

I like Red Dead Redemption better too op. Just mainly the feeling of being so disconnected from the modern world. I was hoping that in V the country would be like Red Dead Redemption, I was hoping to drive through the desert at night and see nothing but my headlights and hearing the sound of coyotes and crickets chirping. But my hopes were held too high, I think.

The only reason RDR didn't sell as well because it wasn't hyped up to the same level. Plus it didn't have a handful of sequels to build an audience. Great game though I loved RDR. Gtav is great too! I will always remember these two games forever.

I RDR is one of the top 5 games this generation. But to me, GTA V is one(if not no.1) of the top 5 games of all time.

Well you guys have convinced me to get red dead. I had a ps1/2 but never bothered with the third as work and family stuff meant money and time were tight, times change and i bought a second had ps3 purely for gta5.

I'm definitely going to get Red Dead but should i get the game of the year edition with the undead nightmare?

None of those reasons have anything to do with the quality of a game. The greatest game on earth could sell 1 copy while the sh*ttiest one could get 1 billion sold in a day.

Stop bitching, these make a game popular not a masterpiece, if you fanboys can't see the lacks of this game gtfo.
