From GTA:SA to GTA5 how big of a difference have we seen? Look how much was left out in GTA4 but added into GTA5. Has there been a phenomenal improvement between all these games? I just want to know what other people think on this

I still prefer San Andreas over GTA V.

NO! There was no big improvement from SA to GTA V. Other than the graphics and better shooting mechanics San Andreas is the better game. It's also important to note than when SA came out, there was nothing to compare with it. It blew any previous game out of the water. 10 years later, the new game lacks many things that SA had. Here are a few reasons why SA felt like a better game.

Two extra cities gave a feeling of discovery, I bet everyone remembers driving into San Fierro for the first time with truth. You feel anticipation and excitement for discovering new places, and even though the country side is not as vast in SA than GTA V, the Catalina missions let you experience the country side, not as much with GTA V missions. Also, you felt like you experience the city and culture, such as gang banger missions, then the casino missions.

Side characters are much more interesting, even the bad ones. Woozie, Tenpenny, Truth, Cesar, etc. were all characters you either grew to like or hate. GTA V, all side characters either wanted to delete from contacts or shoot at immediately, as it seems in GTA V Los Santo no one believes in paying for services. The "Good" characters like Lamar and Lester are boring or annoying, while all the other characters were idiots making you do pointless missions then don't pay you for them. The feeling of being cheated over and over again is annoying. (Beverly, Devin, Mexican Cartel boss, Nigel, FIB) I think I wanted to shoot every side character in the head.

There was much more to do in SA than GTA V, and earning money felt important as you bought up houses around the state. Alot of things were taken out such as the casino, less race missions, airplane races, car stadium games, train driving, etc.

When we played San Andreas we had much more than we expected, when playing GTA V, there was less than expected, as expectations have grown from 10 years and that is the biggest reason people feel SA was a better game. Plus, GTA V had some let downs, like too few heists, and few missions in general, plus I have a feeling that the game was created for DLC. (that is why casino is closed, which would have made a great heist target) or so much of the map was unused for missions.

As previously stated, only the graphics and shooting mechanics have improved a lot. There were a lot of features taken out of V, that SA had.

Well, here's my guess. Would it be possible that by the time that GTA V would come out on PS4 (as R* claimed before) would you think there be far better choices in activities?

story is exponentially better....

so much better. not even in the same solar system. GTA5 is a storytelling revolution IMO.

police system is far more realistic.

'living world' system is worse IMO (no territory wars, inferior building ownership, etc) (world is more static, fake, un-touchable)

'living world' flavor is far better (much more detailed news via radio, websites, etc, better art, etc)

gunplay, cover, etc is a fair bit better but still not as good as Sleeping Dogs imo

so... 1st time through, GTA5 far better

but GTA SA maybe maybe has better end-game replayability

not sure yet GTAO really is part of GTA5 so maybe GTA5 still has edge

Aside from graphics and shooting mechanics I didn't really see any major improvements, actually imo it took a couple steps backwards. (The lack of interiors, replayability and cut features played a huge part.) I also prefered SA's story, five's story was good but didn't have the charm of SA. If there was more storyline involving Franklin, Lamar and South Los Santos then it would've been better imo.

Yes, GTA V was is a major improvement over SA in every way.

With features they took out, they added better ones. With cars taken out they added better ones. Detailed LS and countryside > SA Map.

GTA SA is my second favorite GTA, it's right behind GTA V imo.

They took out more core game features in v to compensate for online game play . If san andreas was a brand new game it would be better than v. the only things that were improved on were shooting mechanics map size and graphics . The only things that really bothered me was there was less character depth . And there were less main missions

SA sucked balls and was boring as f*ck

V isn't great, but it's ok.

I'm not going to jump on a bandwagon and say that GTA SA is better than GTA V (possibly the opposite or roughly equal for me), but people in here have brought up many great points (especially errai14).  While GTA V generally has a more focused story than GTA SA (which is a positive in favor of GTA V), I've enjoyed GTA SA's characters much more.  You can't sympathize, or even like, the majority of GTA V's characters.  They're annoying, act like dickheads, and they aren't even willing to pay you.

Also, gambling.  This stock market thing feels quite "foreign" to me (I really haven't messed with it in real life).  I'd rather make or break my bank with casino games or (digital) horse track betting (which are two ways to gamble money in GTA SA).  Coincidentally, there's a horse track with a casino right by it in GTA V.  So, it might be coming in the future, but probably only for GTA Online.  Worse, it might be DLC instead of an update.  I hated it when R* left card and dice games out of Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer so they could sell them as DLC.  They should have been there since the first day.

GTA SA is still my favourite GTA. If they remake that game in better graphics then it would be awesome.

Thanks for the opinions, especially errai14 and CryptReaperDorian. The points that you have made are the same way I feel. And for GTAction99 I wonder if you can think about how 'detailed' this map is compared to the vast sprawling cities in GTA:SA. There was plenty of detail in all these cities, more enterable buildings than in GTA5 and more little hunting things such as camera shots, horseshoes, spray tags etc (I only was able to collect all the spray tags). There is much more I good go in depth about the city, such as your gangsters on the sidewalks and drugdealers but I'm sure you get the point I'm trying to make

I miss recruiting, basketball, multiple city's, casinos, gangwars, lowriders, my house on Grove Street, go karts, flamethrower, interacting with peds

I could have done without tennis, underwater world, peds attacking me without reason and especially yoga!!!

THIS ^   its 2013 and R* is still making GTA clunky and with the same crappy car spawing issues - I wanted to love 5 but it was no way better than SA - they would have been better just to make a SA HD remake with GTA iV's engine, that would have been a better way to end this generation of consoles than this mess

Off course not! Its not even major improvement over GTAIV, let alone GTA SA! LOL And no its not only for nostalgia! Its because of the points that both errai14 and Kent_Paul_Jnr pointed! And i repeat it once again, when GTA SA were released most of the people weren't even expecting so much more content compared to Vice City! I still remember till this very day how i've been blown away by the vehicle amount and variety, landscape variety (fields, forests, hills, deserts, canyons...etc!), weapons amount and variety and side activities! I didn't expect SA to overcome Vice City in that area THAT much! Sure it was common thing to expect sequel to grow more with content (as it was kind of common sense back then, unlike what we see now...), but even back then the amount of buff in general, that SA received is still impressive even by the standards of THOSE times! And when GTAV were released i didn't feel even 20% of that excitement! In return its quite opposite, the more i learned about the game closer to the release - the more i was getting disappointed (like i got to know safehouses was a lie or misinterpret call it whatever you like!...I got to know about no flamethrowers, chainsaw or even Katanas!...), later when first leaked footages started to appear, i got to know how vehicle damage on an impact were dumbed down and is inconsistent! Then i got to know that police AI is ridiculous! and so on and on...I don't remember being so disappointed with SA when its released! Sure thing there were some minor things that i wish R* would keep in SA since Vice City, but in trade off what SA had to offer i could easily live without those things (such as Ruger rifle and M60 mg missing and some other weapons, absence of good and varied 80's music and some more...) But generally i was very impressed!...We only left to hope R* won't listen to trolls, who don't want them to make HD version of SA on current engine and rather makes it for us fans of SA in a mean time...One can only hope!
