As someone who works for the railroad not all crossing have signals and crossings arms that come down. This is especially true in remote rural areas. Some crossings in the country side won't even have signs. Crossing signals are usually only found in towns, cities or heavily trafficked areas.

Where the hell do you live?! In the UK, Network Fail Rail's Level Crossing standards mandate that no crossing is without 'protection', even if that just includes signs. Sure, for low-traffic areas they might just put in treadle-operated half-barrier crossings. For many of the small footcrossings across farms, there's at least a pedestrian gate and public telephone in place so that farmers can contact the signaller.

Edit: I also work on the railway. I am not a trainspotter or enthusiast. Really want to make that clear.

Most crossings will have at least a sign indicating a rail crossing, it can be rare not to see a rail sign but they are out there. The crossing arms are usually found only in towns, cities, or places of heavy vehicle traffic. The crossing arms aren't perfect, they do malfunction, ie not going down when a train comes, staying down after a train leaves or they will just keep flashing and dinging.

That's why you should still slow down and look before crossing a rail crossing, there could still be a train. Not to mention some crossings are sh*tty and can damage your car if you drive over them too fast.

I'll agree that no barrier pack is perfect. Whatever the method of warning/activation (whether it be treadles or electronic interlocking), failures can happen there as well. But, if they do it's considered a wrong-side failure, and it's pretty serious.

People do need to take caution around crossings. We had a safety meeting annually, and they showed us a lot of videos of near-misses and fatal collissions on crossings. Still, if a crossing is ever to fail or operate incorrectly, for whatever reason, that's a huge deal.

I've seen plenty of videos of people driving around the signal arms, when the train is in clear site...some made it...some didn't. You can bet their families will try to sue the railroad.

This is what our crossings in America typically look like.

Some won't even have the signal crossing, only a sign.

The UK has a similar setup, but we use a more heavy duty barrier/barrier-pack than what's pictured there. The barriers themselves are damn heavy and most of the newer ones have "skirts" to stop people ducking underneath them.

I used to hate wiring the things up because the pack was so awkward to work in. Give me a location case or REB to work on any day.

I'm taking the game back to the store right now, we can't have crossings without visible markings, I almost lost my Dinka Blista due to this! This is not acceptable, that car was my bank.

My brother sent me a picture while I was in work yesterday. His character had glitched and fallen through the game floor - effectively, in front of him was a lovely, mundane blue landscape, while the game world could be seen hovering above.

Three seconds later, a train appears from the sea of blue-randomness and takes him out. I love glitches like that.

Players should also refer to the following image for safety instructions:

Can I suggest a high-vis vest sir. It may save your life in future when attempting to save others. Good day.

More disturbing is the fact that my character NEVER bothers to put on his seat belt.  I don't care if you have 5 stars!  Buckle up, it's the law.  ;)

It's not a danger if you people would use common sense when approaching a rail crossing.

Easy for you to say.  Sometimes, after an afternoon of burning people alive in their cars and running shoppers over, I'll be so busy with the ensuing police chase and shootout that I'll momentarily forget basic rail safety when I drive across the tracks.  Regrettably, this has lead to numerous near misses and a few collisions with the train.

I'll try harder.

This is a disgrace! We must boycott Rockstar for not having realism in their games! In real life, there would be warnings about safety and safety measures, indeed!

Im assuming the OP is joking, which in that case I find it pretty funny. However we dont need a thread like this as it just promotes spam and really isnt useful.
