We at GTAccess Denied (Crew) found a solution for most Connectivity & Character lose problems. :)
The problem is not directly R* fault, but your "Local Internet Provider DNS" with stands for (Domain Name Server)
Most provider have crappy DNS, with big routeing firewalls that seem to block the domains that rockstar is using for their cloud servers!!
To fix this your can use googles open DNS servers, in your XBOX or PS3.

1. Go for the XBOX to Setting > Network settings > Box 2 with dns server setting and choose "Manual"
Add 8.8.8.8 as primary and 8.8.4.4 as secondary, then done.

2. Clear your xbox system cache!!
http://support.xbox....ar-system-cache

3. Turn off your XBOX for a minute, then your ready to play!!

For the PS3 its must be somewhere in network settings, look for is.
Also you will still get from time to time a cloud server error, but the retry button will not abort your connexion by default, en you get back in 2-3 tries!!
Also this will not fix items and cars and more, that are not saved even if you exits out though start > Online > Leave GTA Online. I should know I lost 4 tacked & insured cars even with this fix.

And Rockstar, put something up abort DNS Connectivity issue this ^^ is a good temporarily fix!! :p

Im posting it here, because rockstar is blocking ip in comments :( and maybe someone can make PS3 guide to change DNS Server?

What if I use a service to make my DNS appear in as though I am in another country?

So does this work 100%? If so please tell Rockstar so they can spread this information quickly.

Well I made the changes and got my xbox back online but unfortunately I can't tell if this works because the cloud servers are down.

For Playstation, update the OP with this if you wish.

1. Go over to System Settings > Network Settings at the bottom.

2. Select Internet Connection Settings

3. Select Custom > Wireless/Wired (Depending on setup) > Enter Manually

4. At IP Address Settings choose manual then set the Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and Secondary to 8.8.4.4

5. Click next on everything else and press X to save settings. Test connection if you want.

6. Optional: Restart PS3

7. Boot up GTA and try it out

Hmm....

My character disappeared and now that I think about it I did change my DNS back to my original because I was having trouble connecting to PSN. I normally have my DNS set in America on my PS3 so I can watch U.S Netflix. Since I have changed it back my new character has had no problems saving.

EDIT: I changed it back 3 days ago and my new character has been fine.

I told Rockstar this here: http://support.rocks...equests/1130426 but is there any faster way to tell them?

We need to get this too them because it could help them in resolving the issues soon.

Changing your DNS is not going to solve your character issues because it has nothing to do with it.

Actually if it turns out the DNS has blocked some information, that could explain why Rockstar can't fix the issue yet.

Character loss is a server side issue, not a client side issue. Only Rockstar can fix this. Please delete this mods to avoid misleads.

The DNS doesn't block. It's not a proxy server. It's a translator, it translates www.mydeletedcharacter.com to 234.123.154.220. That's all it does.

tried it. didn't work. now i'm seeing $0 in the bank instead of $180k although social club still says $180k

*edit* changed it back to the default and still now character, but money now says $63k instead of $180k like the social club still shows. WTF is going on?

This may help with connectivity, although you need to open the correct ports. But it's got bugger all to do with character 'lose'.

It cant find the character because of connectivity routeing problems with your providers DNS Server.

Its not deleted, if you finished tutorial!!

Also Rockstar is deleting my posts on the newfeeds :( I think they know!!

So you're saying that after playing video games online just fine (relatively) for ~7 years, It is my fault GTA Online won't work properly, and that I should have to change my settings?

How about... no?

I vote we wait for Rockstar to release another patch and fix the issue.

Playing a game doesn't have to be so difficult, especially not on an Xbox.

Why R* didn't mention that in the game?

It looks more and more rocket science to me.
