Honestly, I see what Rockstar was going for..

Create this sandbox MMO of sorts (similar to APB), with single player and multiplayer components.

On paper it's wonderfully ambitious...but I have a feeling this should've been something that was standalone, or part of GTA 6 for next gen/pc

Because I can't help but feel that Rockstar have this HUGE ambition in regards to GTA Online..but it's simply stunted by this ancient tech.

32 players, playing in a heavy populated Las Santos would've been so much better than what we have now, which is basically a ghost town with 16 players in it.

I think PS3 would be able to handle it better then 360 if that was the case.

Well let's see ps3 has the ability to run both mmo's and the rage engine with ease so your wrong again and btw the rage engine is not that good anyway so the problem could be there

The only good thing about APB is the customization, game is unbalanced like a mofo

They should have made GTA5 for next-gen consoles instead of these peasant current-gen consoles we have right now.

Don't think it's an hardware problem... Think it's more of a technical problem.

Final fantasy14 has badass graphics, millions of players at once plus its connected to pc version also so you can play it with people who are on an entirely different platform. Ps3 does it easily with no lag or frame rate drops.

Agreed. But judging by the diarrhea posts I've seen from you in every f*cking thread in the last 10 minutes makes me really think you are one of them.

Knew what? The issues are server side and have nothing to do with the console.

Honestly its not really the old systems( graphics wise sure ) its the primitive P2P system that MS and SONY both use, couple that with the fact that R* didn't even ante up for dedicated servers this was just a massive train wreck waiting to happen.

I sincerely doubt it considering it's the external servers causing the problems, not our consoles.

Have any of you downloaded and played The Last of Us? No visible difference between Multiplayer and Story, possibly one of the best graphical games ever released.

As a matter of fact I have played TLoU, the multiplayer was crap, story/single player was near-perfection but just missed.

yeah but GTA is a big open world with a bunch of things happening at once. Some people could be blowing up a bunch of cars causing lag and someone else could be in a large fire fight causing lag.

I believe Leslie Benzies even admitted this in an interview a few months ago. He said consoles simply couldn't handle more than 16 players with this level of detail and customization. I assure you the PC/next-gen versions will have at least 32 players online, if not 64.

obv it was for money but they really should have waited till the PS4, even if they get it working, its still going to effect the reputation, it looks horrible after selling so many games and so much advertising for what seems like a half finished product, if they waited a couple months for the PS4 it would be able to handle it all.

Because online is P2P and not on dedicated servers, only the cloud is on servers.

Thats the reason right there.

Might get a modified PC version at some point hopefully and end up with a lot more players like MTA.
