Red Dead! Now, if it was between RDR and GTA IV, I might have a different answer.

You thought GTA IV was better than GTA V? *steps back slowly*

For me, I just can't decide. You can't ever decide between two Rockstar games of different settings.

RDR destroys V when it comes to story

Agree with that 100% no contest.
Other then that aspect, I just can't decide. There both epic in different ways.I will say when it comes to hand to hand combat rdr is a sad joke, that's the games only weak spot imo.

honestly ? Red Dead had a better Storyline that's for sure  V Has more Replay Value and just generally  has more to offer  (red dead was dead after the Storyline)  im pretty Torn I beat red dead for a 2nd time a few weeks back (same with V) and I have to say I enjoyed V More Im going to say their about on par.   but if I  had a gun to my head and I had to pick one I would still probably say Red Dead Redemption.

But red dead redemption is still somewhat overrated the hero worship some people give it Is bullsh*t its not the flawless Perfect breathtaking incredible MASTERPIECE!!!!  some of its fanboys Claim it to  be    Gta IV is better IMHO.

Sorry....cant choose. Both games are the greatest at what they do. Absolute masterpieces.

Also im not a R* fanboy really.. Hated Max Payne and LA Nior. But it seems we all agree RDR was amazing and regardless of what people on this forum say GTA V is up there with it.

GTA V for me. I've never been a guy into cowboys and that crap.

However, Red Dead Redemption is the best game I ever played in terms on quality. No game is closer to perfection as RDR. It's the perfect example of quality over quantity: the map is perfect, shooting mechanics are perfect (I never had any problems with the cover system, unlike in V who is a total bitch), the story may not be the best, but it's perfect in it's own way. I could go on, and again, this is coming from a guy not into the whole western crap. Oh, also, dat soundtrack.

My only two complaints are the sh*tty horse getting stuck into buildings and Marston's stupid son, but that's it.

Undead Nightmare is an awesome dlc aswell. Undead Overrun is my favourite online mode in the game and the only one I play.

Also, Nigel West Dickens is the best side ever created.

I enjoyed RDR very much but for me it's nothing compared to GTA V.

I've only played RDR for about 40 hours max(stopped playing a long time ago) and I have played GTA V for more than 100 hours(still rising).

So in my opinion GTA V was a lot better but RDR was also very awesome(especially Undead Nightmare).

Both are great. No need to even attempt to draw a comparison.

Easily V... RDR was great and the storyline was emotional, that's a fact but still in terms of gameplay V is just much more fun

Since we are comparing IV too I'd say IV is at the same level as RDR while V is a couple of levels above :)

I consider myself a big fan of GTA V. I've played it nonstop for the past 3 months. That is, until a week ago when I bought RDR Game of the Year Edition (after realizing my cousin would never return my original).
I went into it expecting to have a little fun, but not as much as I did with GTA V. I remembered RDR fondly, but it wasn't something I remember being blown away by. I just beat it a day ago and I went back to playing GTA V again a few hours ago.

But then a Christmas miracle happened.

I got bored and turned GTA V off.

My God, it was hard to go back to the world of GTA V after immersing myself in Red Dead Redemption's amazing world. I never thought I'd say this, but I think Red Dead Redemption is a better game than GTA V. Sure, it isn't as good gameplay wise or as fun, but it's world is so much more thought out, the characters are better, the story is a really good one and the game delivers everything you expect and more.
Don't get me wrong, GTA V isn't disappointing at all, but it doesn't give you a world or story or characters as great as Red Dead Redemption's. Red Dead Redemption is better in my books, but not by an outstanding margin.

Now to start Undead Nightmare...

Red Dead Redemption is and always will be my favourite game. It was such a fresh and new gaming experience for me. The charactors were great and their voice acting was even better. They were funny but also deep, I really connected with them and understood them, except Seth... don't get me started on the score, that soundtrack was a true masterpeice. To be continued. ..

Nope, just wondering what his reasons were, just to cure curiosity.

Both are great. No need to even attempt to draw a comparison.

I'd say you can in a way. They are both made by Rockstar, and they are free-roaming, open world games, the only difference is the period time or era.

Compared to my experiences of both games, I'd say I had a much better time with Red Dead Redemption, and I was much more impressed and drawn into it than I was with GTA V.

For me it's impossible to favorite one of them - they are both amazing games - I can't put one ahead of the other.

They both excel at different things.  If you're looking for a wide range of environments, natural and manmade, go for GTA V.  If you want foiliage and a wider range of animals, go for RDR.  Fact is, you're onto a winner whichever choice you make.

Trick question. They were both designed to achieve different things. It's like asking which is better; a hammer or a saw?
