Well, making money is easy as pie in single-player, it's only going to be easier in Online. Why would I pay for a "cash card" when I could perform a heist and recieve far more than 1.25 million measly dollars. It must be just something you can win through social club, as in, you can somehow do something that causes you to win a redeemable code that can be used to recieve that money in game. No human being would pay real money for an insignificant amount of fake money in a game that's so easy to earn so much more than that just by playing the game. Think about it.

The biggest advantage will be people who purchase a ton of money, and invest it in Ammu Nation and other stocks that are nearly guaranteed to rise with all the business the new players will give that company.

How is this any different than the gold farmers that were going to exist anyway?

If GTA online is pay to win, and/or micro transactions, im going to be severly disappointed in rockstar for finally selling out.. it will kind of prove the next game will be a pile of sh*t. I dont mind reasonable paid dlc but its got to be great, like maps or mission packs, not little 'oh pay £5 and get this weapon etc'. they will have truely killed one of their biggest fans (since the DMA design days) by finally selling out and becoming just as bad as all the other games developers. Please please let this not be the case. Virtual money only please rockstar!!!

I don't think you get it. Some Chinese company will have 500 people playing 24/7 making cash in-game. Then they will sell you $1 million in game money for $10 real money.

So it doesn't matter if Rockstar's store sells in-game money or not.

It's not pay to win anyway, it's just a shortcut to more cash. I don't really see the point, I mean, I'd much rather earn a nice apartment and garage full of cars instead of just paying for them but if someone else wants to pay for in game cash it doesn't bother me at all.

Battlefield 3 had shortcut packs you could buy to unlock higher level weapons. I don't see the fun in paying to get them but it wasn't a problem at all, some people paid for them, some people earned them. It didn't change the game or make it unfair. If Rockstar keeps releasing new content and supporting online and has to implement things like this to pay for it then I'm all for it. Just means online will stay awesome and also stay free for me.

While all Id consider paying real money on is for a primary race car maxed out right out of the gate, if theres any way I can lose that car or get it stolen, forget it. Im not shelling out real money to have some jerk, maybe even a guy in your own crew you thought you could trust, steal it and run. Expect theft to run rampant, and everyone backstabbing everyone. Id let things play out a week or so and see how people can lose their investments before pulling out your real wallet in the first week.

I might put 10 down. Yeah, I said it. I don't give a damn what any of you think anyway. I would put 10 down and then put it right in my bank. Upgrade my appearance and get a nice house, maybe a nice upgraded gun right off the bat.

You and I are on the same brain wavelength.

People are freaking out about the money; while I think it's definitely distasteful and I won't be purchasing anything, I also don't see it affecting my gameplay all that much.

Trouble is it will affect the game as a whole, if rockstar start on this sh*t now, I guarantee GTA6 will be a further step in the wrong direction, hence the downfall of the only decent company making games out there I am not impressed at all, neither should anyone else.

They've made a ton off this game.  Enough to keep the online service afloat for some time.  I predict at least a couple DLCs in the future which will add a significant amount of money as well.  I'm not saying they won't, but I don't think they'll make a cash shop just to keep this available.

you know all the money they made does not all go to them it goes to a few places, Another thing is the person on redit said they found it in the code, So that means if it is true they planned it from the start.

But we don't know anything till online comes out. I would rather buy money if it gets me father quicker.

Don't get father. ;)

The money - just like with any game - goes to a lot of places. But not just ANY game gets the amount of sales that Rockstar just acquired - and they haven't even released DLC for purchase yet (which will make them even more money).

I'm playing devil's advocate here, I know, but the option to purchase money doesn't bother me that much. It'll be like Battlefield 3's class unlock kits - you get items faster, but it doesn't make up for being a bad player.

Regardless, I won't be making a purchase.

I don't see a problem with it being in the game.  People want to throw away their money for ingame items so that Rockstar can have more money to make great content and updates?  This doesn't sound bad to me at all.  Plus whose to say they won't have cool items for .99 cents or 5 bucks?  It's all optional and in my opinion if people have money to throw anyway let them do it.  Rockstar is a smart company and I don't think they'll be selling items that give players huge advantages.  If anything it will be ingame cash and possibly items or hairstyles.  I hate that people are already claiming that it will be pay to win without actually hearing anything from Rockstar.  I also hate the term pay to win anyways, especially used here.  If someone wants to pay money to get cash faster to get a gun faster is that pay to WIN?  I certainly don't think so.  That doesn't make them a better player or beat me.  If anything they would be a worse player because they paid money rather than having experience in the game and building up the money.  Just my opinions here.  I really don't think people should even be throwing around the term pay to win without even knowing what exactly is for sale.  People need to understand that ingame shops and real money cosmetics and items are going to be in gaming for a long time.  The quicker that you realize that these aren't a bad thing the more fun you'll have playing your game rather than whining to yourself the whole time shouting, 'OMG TAHT GUI IS PAY 2 WIN SO UNFAYR WOWOW'.

P.S. If anyone wants to reply to this and say 'Rockstar made a billion they don't need more money' please keep it to yourself.  They're a company.  They want/need money.  Let's not pretend that these guys are 'free for everyone' hippies.

Doesn't bother me at all. It's the same with map packs on COD or whatever. People who can afford to buy them will buy them, but overall in the past with COD it never bothered me.

Add micro-transactions, but please don't make it Pay-2-Win. We should be able to buy in-game clothing and stuff like that, but nothing that's going to break the Online. It ruins it for people who like to grind.

Oh, bitch some more.

Yeah, I put money into games I enjoy. That's the future. It seems the problem with the industry is people who are behind a damn generation.

Do I like the idea that games are getting DLC hungry? Hell no. Do I also enjoy GTA, and would like to get a kick start ahead of other people? Yep. You're damn right.

So, I am putting money into the game. Does that make me any less of a gamer than you? Hell no. Get over yourself.

Ignoring the raw profit they made on game sales, if the cash store supports online servers, ok, but they better be some damn good robust servers. With game sales and a covert way to make PS3ers pay to play online if they want, theres no reason for them to have crappy servers.

I hope it's not something like simpson's tapped out where the donuts are the premium currency which can't be bought with in game money and can only be earned in very small numbers (1 or 2 per level up) when there are things that cost 100-200+ or even 1000 donuts. ie impossible to buy without purchasing in game currenc with real money)

while i have never spent a dime in that game, there are several things i don't have because i cannot buy them in the game without spending real money which i refuse to do.

No, it appears YOU'RE whats wrong with the industry Venom.  How do I know this?  The 2 x's in your name.  The fact you bash others for saying what they would do with their money.  The implication you made that microtransactions are somehow a problem with gaming.  Your negativity.  I could keep going on but I'm hoping you get the point.  You should really see a doctor about getting that stick removed from your ass.

Okay, a good chunk of that one billion in sales will go back into investors. Into the people who backed rockstar games during development, the artists whose music we hear (or dont) on the in game radio, and to pay the developers who are still on staff their continued wage. The rest will fall into further development, dlc, expansion of online(as they've mentioned). Any microtransactions (if these are going to go live) will help pay for the server costs. Upkeep, maintenance, dedicated personnel to keep them running day in day out. So, before you go off with your pitchforks think.
