I gotta say, the first time I saw that fin behind me I got a very primal surge of adrenaline.
Why is the ocean so scary?

Saaame. I usually don't feel uneasy but in GTA it's creepy. Knowing that sharks can kill you and sh*t, naaaaah. I want to get the submarine pieces but f*cking hell, getting 3 of them last night scared the sh*t out of me.
I might play "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid to ease the tension tbh. ;/
hahaha....hope you don't run into zombie Ariel

those creepy distant sounds.. Only I hope they coming from real monster, otherwise, I don't have much fear of the ocean..

I am scared to go in the forests as well because the bobcats don't have a red dot and kill you in one hit. Wish you could fight them off for a bit.
For a second I thought you were talking about random pick-up trucks lurking the forest.

Haha, Every time my engine turned off over the ocean (single player), I'd switch to another character right before hitting the water. I am terrified of falling into that dark abyss and having to swim for ages to get to the shore, while something can come and get me.

It's scary because you can't see sh*t, are surrounded by a thing that can kill you, and move like 2mph while you're under there.
The darkness, first and foremost though.

The first time I saw the submerged UFO right next to a big steep drop off was a shocker
