So I was recently fooling around with boats on GTA V, and I decided to head out to sea for a while. About 3 minutes passed, and suddenly my boat sank out of nowhere and then a shark ate me. Not to mention it was stormy as hell and the waves were pretty large. So i thought I'd try it again with a cargobob. Same thing happened, My engines flared out and down I went into the sea. What do you think it means? Just a "Hey, get back to the game, asshole" type thing?

I'm going to check it out now. Sounds like a cool alternative to the invisible wall or endless loop.

Try it with a jet and see if you can glide far enough. To do it properly, you'd have to get a military jet and fly it to the highest point and go completely horizontal while going max speed.

just now tried that. I was as high as i think i can go. The engines shot out black smoke and Michael goes "Start, you piece of sh*t!" and i try to glide as far as I could. Same result, only this time i stayed in the plane until i sank and dfrowned.

I think rockstar programmed this specific shark to kill you on site. It only appears when you touch the water and is instantly angry, unlike being docile.

Yeap. I did it. It happened to me too. It not as climatic as I was imagining. I was slowly cruising in my boat finally got to the very edge of the map and the radio simply shut off and my boat sank. Trevor didn't say anything, the shark appeared to but Trevor drowned before anything could happen.

Try going north and see if they have north yankton, like the ghost town in gta 3.

You can go f*cking far out though. I went with Trev on a Speedophile. I couldn't even see the city. Then it broke down, shark came. I tried to punch it, but no luck. It didn't get me because it went in too big circles. And then I just died.

i think there are 2 limits one is the vehicle boundary and the second is way past it where your character just dies, to make it easy i just flew via plane, then once that died i kept doing the superfall/fly cheat you get to a point where you cannot do the code anymore and then if you keep swimming it gives you a WASTED notice

This island in the middle of nowhere sh*t needs to change, it doesnt feel immersive at all.

Just feels like the game world is lonely and not part of anything bigger.

But how do you solve it? GTA3 got away with it because there was no flying ability, and when you DID fly you couldn't go high enough, and when modded, as soon as you start flying, that whole mountain leading to the rest of America just break down like some paper backdrop.

It's just one of those things, if you have flying, you have to make your playground an island.

The engine cuts out and you sink to the deep dark depths of the ocean and your character slowly dies as the sub caves in under pressure.

I went far out with a sub.
The sub cut out and as I got out I spawned on shore about 2 miles away.
I don't like this method of keeping us contained.
It should just be endless water.

Has anyone tried getting in a plane (any type), flying out to the edge and once you hit the water just keep spamming the invincibility cheat to see if you can hit the bottom of the ocean?

The shark gets angry no matter where you are in the water (except certain places)...even if you just stay in one spot, the shark will still make 4 or 5 passes and then strike. Don't provoke a shark and you'll be just fine my a$$ lol. Yup...the guide book lied yet again lol.

Its to stop you from reaching north yankton, when the DLC arrives you'll be able to go really far out until you reach NY.

Its not really but how cool would that be?

I tried parachuting past the limit, but my parachute instantly broke when I pulled the cord as though I had hit something, and I went plummeting to my doom.

I managed to bypass dying and swam out to sea for 80 minutes before I got bored.

My submarine sank, and stopped responding to my controls, but at no point did I die. There was a notice on the top right that the hull had been critically damaged but I was just floating 0.16 miles below the surface, dead in the water. Incredibly dark and creepy, it gives one the impression that the ocean has no bottom, since I never hit it. I could still make the sub accelerate, but I didn't appear to be moving in any particular direction.

At any rate the sub gets weird out there.

Red dead didn't had the ocean thing (right?).

Thats because there wasn't any planes so you couldn't see further then the map allows.

But with Gta its another story, it would be silly to have some invisible wall around it, so sea is probably the best option.

Going to make a topic with a poll to see what people think.

Yes, it's to stop you going too far and to indicate that there's nothing else out there. Same thing will happen, no matter which direction you fly/sail in. Makes a lot more sense than hitting nothing or being turned around and sent back to land.
