I don't think a female lead character in the GTA world would be fitting.

but yoga, tennis, golf, and the absence of gore are?

Did you even play the game you retarded motherf*cker ?

yes, and it has yoga, tennis, and golf in it. And no gore.

Blood splashes and coloration changes/red splotches on your skin/clothes, yes, but actual gore/deformation or dismemberment, no.  Animals don't even take on any visible damage aside from color changes.  What's retarded about what I said?

I don't think GTA is the game to build some kind of 'women's empowerment/equality' plank on. There could be a number of awesome stories of a woman navigating her way through the criminal underworld, but is GTA the best vehicle for it? I think being getting female avatars in multiplayer, with all the usual clothing options etc...basically "Lara Croft : Crime Raider" is as good as you can hope for. That's probably what most people clamoring for it are looking for anyway. They really don't know what they're asking for from R*ckstar.

Society at large would probably go apes**** if they included the necessary gameplay features to pull this off. But if R*ckstar were being true to themselves and the GTA legacy they should include at least these 2:

1. Mini-game requiring our 'plucky' female protagonist to lure men in passing cars for tricks. Possibly working her way up the prostitution ladder to up-town high-class 'Pretty woman' level. This wouldn't be the whole story, but an optional 'stat' to work on throughout the game, and a nice supplementary source of income. Clothing choices and a few 'hooker pose' controller actions would affect 'desirability' and payout of course. It's ok to gloss over the drug abuse, pimp beatings and so forth. GTA is an overblown dose of reality, but it retains it's sense of humour.  A mocking gesture to the oldest illicit female profession in the world is most definitely warranted.

2. Stripping mini-game. Become a stripper and dance in run-down gin-joints for chump change. Again, working your way up the ladder to high-end clubs and private sessions with rich executives for bigger paydays. More complex controller moves here, combo's aplenty, that sort of thing. Make it rain, baby!

And so forth. Why not? You're trying to show the criminal underworld in all it's sordid beauty. We've spent umpteen games and hours showing the man's point of view. Why not show the woman's? To hot for TV? Of course it is. You'd have a nation full of hormone raging boys (and man-boys) shaking virtual T&A for hours trying to rack up the 'high score' as the world's most prolific $2 whore, regardless of what 'empowering and affirming' storyline you wrapped around it. I'm sure women's libbers would just love that. But really if it was going to call itself GTA those would have to be mandatory items for sure.

So you'd wrap a story around a woman doing some or all of these sorts of things.

1. Prostitute

2. Stripper

3. Porn starlet (probably just a mission or two, or in humorous and noisy cut-scenes. Like the 'dates' from GTA IV). Kill off a rival actress for a hot part and earn cash.

4. Temptress-Assassin would be an obvious choice. Use your skills from jobs 1-3 to get yourself into bed with rival gang-lords and eliminate the opposition.

5. Pimp/Madame - Lure and run girls of your own. Side missions would involve find new sources of drugs to keep 'em happy or they walk on you. Work up to running a brothel / escort agency, maybe a 'franchise' thing. Luring girls from the stuck-up college campus in rich part of town gives better income (happier, higher class of customers) then just grabbing strung out urchin's off skid row. (I realize going after young high-school teens, as in the real world, just wouldn't fly. So R*ckstar would be forgiven for selling out on that one).

6. Drug courier - goes without saying.

Remember you are a female trying to climb the criminal ladder engaging in very unsavory deeds, just like the males in games past. Don't expect a role model character you can point your daughter to and say, "be like her". Anyone want their son's to grow up to be the next Trevor? Another example: Some no-good turncoat Avenging Angel is actually killing John's. You don't care about those scumbag guys, but you care that your income is drying up. So you're mission would be to FIND the no-good profit-stealing c-word who's ruining your business (get a 'Franklin' acquaintance to act as a John), set her up for a sting and put a bullet in HER head. Prostitution racket saved. Because this isn't "Life Affirming Auto", it's Grand Theft Auto. Feminists rejoice. Yeah, if some John or serial killer was offing your girls you kill him too (no doubt using your leveled up hooker skills to draw him out of course. Side quest would be to profile him and find out what outfits he likes his girls in. Go to store and buy correct outfit). Nothing can get in the way of your income source.

It would be too easy to just vomit out an O-Ren Ishii clone...some high-powered martial arts super-heroic killer who can hand-to-hand men 3x her size and never has to submit to the predations of men etc etc etc. A real crusader. In other words: Unoriginal, safe, predictable, lazy and boring. We see that story play out in hack Hollywood writing too often.

I want risqué, I want offensive, I want to be shown the dirty ugly side of urban city life and the people who inhabit it. The males in our stories are Savage Brutes using typically male brutality in all it's glorious ways to get the job done. The history of women in this 'man's' world is typically quite different. Yes you can write a cliche'd story of some Kingpin's daughter who was never respected because of her gender, get's secret weapons training, fights against odds and takes over Daddy's business as a tough-as-nails CrimeLady extraordinaire -- O-Ren Ishii as mentioned -- barely glossing over what 'lesser girls' suffer through in their 'criminal' careers. That's the safe option...but is that Franklin's upbringing? No, he's a typical (ok, stereotypical) gangbanger trying to make a name for himself. There are no doubt a million like him running rampant on American streets right now. What is the million-strong American Girl equivalent and how can we translate *their* stories into something that fits a GTA narrative? Easier said then done, both in terms of storytelling AND in getting approval by boards of directors, shareholders and society at large to actually do it.

If you have a female protagonist in a series like this, wasting it on something safe, cliché and predictable seems a waste of time. Ironically the male stories *have* been cliché in the extreme. Their vague familiarity is part of their charm...we can imagine guys like them existing. I'd like to see a woman engage in activities  that see her 'rise to the top' of the dungheap of choice, but in a fashion distantly recognizably as taking place in the real world. A bit of Bonny and Clyde is fine, but don't shy away from the ugly choices woman make (have to make) if they inhabit that world.

Five star post. In a multi-character game like V, it would be a surefire success.

Some of the comments got a good point... some of the comments are sexist. It's not because you couln't imagine it that it couldn't happen. But having a female protagonist would be a great step in video games history. Some mentions Lara Croft... Lara Croft is nothing but BOOBS, no wonder why they took Angelina Jolie to play the part in the movies.

Maybe in a DLC, maybe being one female with two male protagonist. Maybe. The Rockstar crew says they keep looking for the right game. Good! Because I don't want it to be "A stripper goes badass"... except for Amanda... it would be interesting.

I think of a movie like Thelma & Louise for women protagonist... no strippers, no butch, no crazy whatever it is like Catalina, no anti-men profile.

Somebody said that GTA was a parody of the american culture. I will quote Wade at the Vanilla Unicorn: "Cousin Floyd says that stripclubs objectify women, but you ain't objects, you're people!" while being hold on by strippers.

Yes it is a parody but we should look further to those clichés. Female criminals exist. The prisons for women are full.
Yes, a vagina can rob a bank.

And men should be objectified as well for once.

The idea that a female character couldn't work shows an astonishing lack of imagination and a pitifully shallow familiarity of fiction.

What they're going to say - "I just couldn't relate to (female character)"

Or "I couldn't sympathize with (female character)."

You know what? Most of these people saying this stuff, if they really wanted a character they could relate to, Rockstar could've just made Jimmy De Santa their character and be done with it. He sits and plays video games and says ignorant sh*t.

If they'll ever be interested in a female lead, how about for a PS Vita GTA game? She could be a soon-to-be-corrupt cop. That would play well?

Does nobody watch videos of high school girls beating the crap out of each other? To say "Women don't do these sorts of things" is quite funny.

A female lead could work. And for the people who say it couldn't: there are female cops, female FBI agents (and on the other side of the coin), female hackers, martial artists (if that's the right term), gang members, assassins, etc, in real life, who are out there right now, who would definitely disagree. And believe me, they are not people you wanna jack around. If people like that exist in the real world, they can certainly exist as a protagonist in a game.

I think you should press A and get of your fat ass and do somthing with you're life. There is nothing different with women than there is to us apart from the in between(na mean). This is a bit sexist but some woman are some cold people. Like they slice you're throat open and then like watch u die cold. I think most men would walk away when they slit them. And why are people complaining that a woman wouldn't suit Trevor's role? Of course they won't dipsh*t coz there not Trevor ! Cj isn't like Vic or Luis or Franklin . Neither is franklin like them and so on. A new protagonist would result in a new fresh fun story, like NIko bellies and Johnny klebitz's story's ,they where completely different. One was a biker and wan was an imagrant to the country. What I'm trying to say is it don't matter who the character is man woman or both personally I don't care, although a female or transgender protagonist will be a nice first, It don't matter if ur protagonist was a purple unicorn, over all there all the same and we'll love them till the next badass protagonist appears .

Why the heck did I write that crap? Any way my signature move on GTA V I call the Purple Unicorn. But c'mon a girl character would be awesome for both men and woman.

I've got faith that Rockstar have the ability to write for a strong, female character that isn't sexist or offensive. The challenge is writing for a female who isn't simply defined by her gender.

Since there's been success with a multi-protagonist story I don't see why they couldn't have a female character as one of the roles in the next game. Actually, a game with a Bonnie & Clyde/True Romance/Natural Born Killers like couple tearing through North Yankton could work well, letting you take on both roles would give you characters with more in-depth motivations. Maybe they start off fairly innocent and get drawn into crime to get by, having to steal and kill in order to survive tough economic times. Set it in the 73-75 recession or something. GTA's not done a story like that where the people start off as ordinary people. Success of a show like Breaking Bad shows there's a good fanbase for the old story of people becoming seduced with money and power and the toll it takes on their relationships.

I think a female joint lead could work in that sort of situation. It's definitely doable.

Anything that is too finely tuned to a woman's sensibilities is usually ruined, just look at the music industry.

lol bonnie and clyde

I can kind of see a future game, where the protags are partners (in crime at least), one's male and one's female, each with their own skills. The two would contrast each other but together, they'd be a hell of a team.

The problem i see with a female lead is the issue of sexism. Feminists, and i'm sorry to say it, but many women in general, will complain that their genre is portrayed poorly or unfairly. That issue does not work with a game with such freedom.

If i played it and wanted the female lead to be a bit "loose" - tempting her target with her natural "charms", dressed in a bikini, then the freedom to do that would be considered offensive to certain women.

I think that's a line that Rockstar are not prepared to cross. Like including kids in the game. Is it worth it? If you have a male lead who f*cks prostitutes, kills them etc - who gives a sh*t. But if a woman had lesbian sex with a prostitute (or saw a female stripper) then killed them (or indeed even had hetero sex with a male), then people would be outraged.

I would welcome it, if gta VI had one of the characters (lets assume the multi character thing will return) is a female. I liked being a woman in SR, just putting my preference of a serious game aside and causing some who-gives-a-f*ck carnage.

But where SR would likely use any controversy as a marketing statagy, R* will want to avoid that.

So no, i don't think a female lead is likely, because some people couldn't deal with it, and R*'s responce would be placing restrictions on them in game.

I'd rather be a guy, with the option of f*cking and killing a hooker, or staring at pixel-tits, than be a woman who can not do those things. Plus, if i wanted to run around in my boxers - assuming i''d finished the f*cking story first - i can do that, but as a woman, would i be able to?

Too much sexism here, and immaturity
A female playable character would be a bit strange in a GTA, even if it would be possible in the future - We hope so

That's all

rockstar know its fanbase, and that's way they always choose a male psychopatic-misogynic-homophobic protagonist

The game treat men even worst than women, believe Us
But 99,99% of players don't understand it

There are no ''good'' characters in GTA V, even police and fib are dumb and evil
The ones We could argue with of course

Not to mention the pedestrians attitude and phone conversations, superficiality and dumbs everywhere

It's a satire, a methapor of USA - and, to a major extent, of our entire modern society

...I played SR with a chick... It worked very well.

Played GTA O with a girl character as my alt..  Still works very well.

Its about time for a female lead.  Anyone who says other wise is probably gay.  Not that theres anything wrong with it, just sayin'.

And once again you miss the point of the whole discussion, its not about simply being a woman , its about knowing how the game will work around her characterisation and writing as its not just an avatar like in GTA Online and SR where you are basically doing the same things and missions that you can do with a male character, whats the point of that ?

If they have little spin offs from gta it wouldn't be so bad if a female did take lead. It would a lot more hustle, sneaking, and outsmarting all while maintaining the appearance of a lady. Just think about the movie columbiana.

Nope.. Sorry..  I did not miss any point.

Infact I only prove myself right.

I could make a female lead work in GTA if given the chance to write the story.  Its not rocket science. Anyone who says other wise is either GAY or hates women.

I love women.  I have no problem what so ever with a female lead.

Man, you guys make the sh*ttiest female protagonists in the world. Look at "The Last of Us"... "Orange is the New Black" -- mediums where female protagonists DON'T HAVE TO STRIP OR BE SEXUAL.
