Just wondering what targeting mode you guys are using to play the game. I play all console shooters on free aim as I find it's much more of a challenge and helps me to get better at controller precision.

It's definitely a challenge though as you have to pop out of cover and quickly aim or you take damage. I also find that shooting from a car in free aim is next to useless as you can't aim then shoot - the gun just starts firing when you press LB.

Be interested to know how you all play the game.

It's GTA Standard I believe, though I'm not sure what that entails as I used free aim in IV as well.

I tried free aim and didn't really enjoy it to be honest. I switched to GTA Traditional and just try to free aim as much as possible once I've actually popped out and got my bearings.

I've been gaming on a pc for the last year though so using a controller feels like trudging through mud when aiming.

free aim two up on sensetivity.

Ah nice idea - I hadn't thought of experimenting with sensitivity. Will try that tonight to see if I can get used to it and if it helps me get more accurate or quicker to line up shots.

I don't blame you at all. I think the hardest thing to get used to when coming from k/b and mouse on a PC is controller aiming in FPS and 3rd person shooters like this. It can feel really awkward,

I've been doing it quite a while now and use a controller on my PC (as it's connected to the TV) so have adapted quite well but I really do feel a bit handicapped at times, especially in major fire fights. Though it's one of the reasons I keep using freeaim so that I can get as accurate as possible.

Using the traditional aim but trying to free aim as much as possible is a good call. I wasn't sure if you could do that or whether it would always target for you - but I suppose that is what aim assist must do. Not a bad compromise.

I started with free aim but it seemed like the missions were built around the player using traditional GTA so I switched to that.

Very interesting to see how many are using free aim - I didn't expect that many would be.
For those who are, how are you handling shooting from cars? I still find this aspect of free aim infuriating. You can't aim first then fire right? You just hit LB and the character starts shooting. Find it very hard to aim like that and make any decent hits.

Yeah one of my complaints with the game, i dunno why they decided to make it this way but you can't aim while shooting from the car you have to shoot all the time if you want to know where your aim is. Kinda stupid too be honest.

Free aim. It is a lot of fun and much better than GTA IV free aim.

There will likely be sessions that are soft lock (Traditional GTA style) and Free Aim.

Free Aim here, coming from PC it is tough. But I spent like 6 hours in the shooting range the last few days and I have seen a real improvement in my target acquisition and tracking.

Free Aim with a hint of Traditional, meaning I stick to Free Aim until the god awful vehicle shooting comes up, in which case the lock on doesn't help that much either.

Free aim because auto aim is just too easy to be fun and assisted aiming is f*cked. Also I feel a bit elite.

I do hope online is free aim but I bet it won't be :(

Got to Trevor last night on the game and free aim got really annoying as I couldn't see the white dot a lot of times against the bright backgrounds of the desert in the day. Made the first mission a total ball ache. Wasn't helped by the poor FPS in that particular mission.

Ah well, I'll get used to it. Defo the better mode to use to really have a challenge I think.

There's absolutely no challenge with a controller on default settings, free aim is the only way.

Assisted. I've used all three.

I'm not terrible at Free aim, but don't care enough to always aim that way. Assisted (and probably Standard as well) allows you free aim at any time.

Free Aim, no questions asked. Much more immersive and challenging in single-player, plus it doesn't give yourself or others an advantage on multi-player. If you get killed in a Free Aim server, you were killed fairly, as opposed to someone auto-tracking your forehead like in the other aiming modes.

Look at you putting people down for days. Anyways I use free aim, easier to use than the sh*t lock on system
