Graphics | 1.9 / 2
On a 1080 Full HD - Really nice graphics. In-depth detail that help bring the game to life are everywhere. Diverse and interesting. Not a perfect score but this is ONLY down to the hardware so not R*s fault
SFX/Music | 1.9 / 2
Through 5.1 - Really nice enveloping sound effects and music really do put you IN Los Santos and Blaine County. Brilliant. When I say it really puts you IN the game, it truly does. Fantastic. Would be perfect if we could listen to our own tunes and make our own 'horns' for the vehicles.
Storyline/Plot/Characters | 1.6/ 2
All aspects were really good. You felt tense/'full attention' with the serious moments, you laugh at the comedy, you get pissed of with Trev yet still laugh, you kinda feel sorry for Michael but understand why he is in 'that' situation that later on does get cleared up... yeah, good stuff. Story-line too short for this highly anticipated game though.
Mechanics | .75/ 2
Oh dear what did they do...
Gun-play mechanics are really good. Fast, responsive, accurate, fluid, yup, good job. A nice up-grade from GTA 4 (not that GTA 4 had bad gun-play) and it still kept the GTA style of play. Good work R*. 2/2
On foot mechanics again are really good and a nice upgrade from 4 which did have a slow style response when turning etc. Only flaw with on-foot mechanics would be when you try to jump over a wall and the char sometimes jumps INTO the wall (so 1.6/2)... but then I think this is because of the... PHYSICS... and oh my god... what a f*ck up.
I'll seperate PHYSICS and HANDLING (driving mechanics) as they are 2 attached yet seperate entities.
The handling in this game is very arcade like. I don't mind arcade games, and considering this is now an arcade racer, it is not too bad. I don't think it suits or fits GTA, but it is fast, responsive and kinda accurate. Again it doesn't suit GTA as it makes the game seem like a lesser rival Saints Row kiddies type game. The cars grip too much, the brakes are too powerful, you don't need brakes for most of the game, it is too easy, they cars feel like slot cars, worse than San Andreas, a major step back imo. None of the cars have their own feel to them now, massive lack of feel, body roll, suspension, grip is odd (especially off-road), just really really odd. This is ALL because of the games physics...
Physics - What a balls up. 2wd cars out-grip 4wd cars. The game decides when you lose grip and power when off roading, NOT the vehicle or situation (wtf). 18 wheelers have less impact than a faggio (none of the cars have their own unique/worldly weight) which is why 2wd cars stay still when you ram into them with a massive truck... its a joke.
These are the worst physics I have ever seen and this affects the handling hence why I seperated the 2.
I have played games 20 years ago that have had better physics than this.
The game world does not make sense. The cars 'float' instead of having gravity applied to them. Fork lift trucks SMASH things out of the way yet 18 wheelers (with 40 tonne of load on their back) kinda nudge cars out the way. A mini can push my fully tuned 4wd truck down the road... serious balls up. I think Rockstar went to the national retard centre and got them to do the physics for this game.
This f*cktard of a worldly glue completely and totally destroys the immersion of the game for me...
There's me in my 18 wheeler with half a forrest of logs on my back plummeting down the highway. 50 tonne of hardened metal + wood travelling at 80mph DOWNHILL ... I'm gonna cause a MASSIVE pile-up. I spot the traffic ahead... put my foot down even more and ... BANG... I nudge the mini 2cm. WHAT THE f*ckING f*ck??????????
What a balls up.
All of a sudden this living breathing environment with all of the luscious details and diverstiy has been sh*t on. What a shame.
I can take the arcade-ness of the driving/handling... but these physics just ruin EVERYTHING whether it be an arcade game or simulator game.
Gameplay | 1 / 2
The game-play was good. Diverse missions kept the game fresh. I don't think I did the same kind of mission twice which kept me wanting to continue. The 2 reasons why the score is low is because of the physics/handing and because the game is short.
SCORE: 6.5 / 10
I think you can gather why I scored this game this low.
The physics just break the game-play for me. I can take bad physics if everything was bad IE gravity is TOO harsh or too light... but when you manage to glue the cars to the road yet have them float once they are in the air... 18 wheelers lighter than faggios... tiny cars can out-grip and out-power fully tuned BEASTS... cars turning on sixpences... police cars that can ram you across the state when you are driving a tank... police than can out accellerate your bugatti veyron... 2wd cars out-grip and manouver your 4wd cars when off road... the game auto slowing you down and auto correcting your driving....the game deciding when you lose grip and power when off-road instead of it being about the surface or your vehicles power, grip, suspension (f*cking joke on bikes.. that stuff is LAME LAME LAME)...
This game was supposed to be my gaming nirvana, my 'all in one', my HOME until GTA6 and/or GTAO + expansions but the phsyics SNAP me out of Los Santos / Blaine County and I either end up putting GTA 4 back on or just turning my console off.
Verdict - Cracking game but MASSIVELY let down by the physics and kinda therefore arcade handling.
Planes that take off at 20 mph... Your taking the f*cking piss aint ya?
GTA V feels like it has been made for kids. The 'glue' (physics) should hold the world together and in GTA 4 they are what have kept me playing it since it came out. In 5 the physics are laughable. Game Breaker.
I will pirate GTA 5 when it is out on the PC and I'll download a patch that makes the handling + physics back to what 4 is like. Then and only then will the game will deserve a score of 100% and worthy of my money.
I feel cheated out of my money, annoyed and frustrated as this game was supposed to be my 'home' (lol - lame but c'mon this is one HUGELY anticipated title) and because I have been waiting so long and I guess I feel kinda upset and dissapointed.
This game sucks you in with luscious inviting fresh graphics, grips you with the sounds, life, content, diverstiy, holds and begs you to explore the environment and little 'gems' such as tuning you car and making you want to go either fully off your head or just crusing round...even having your car glued to the road is quite fun (too bloody easy and Saints Row-ish for me but) then you see the physics applied to your car (the lack of body roll/suspension, not having to brake) and you see the sh*te physics of the world and I am SNAPPED BACK OUT OF THE GAME WITH A BANG... Lol - anti-climax or what
