How did people survive with GTA 3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas? I don't get it. Yes the driving is different but it's not bad. If GTA 4 didn't exist what the f*ck would people complain about?

Nothing, because I'd have nothing greater to measure it against. 4's driving took me by complete surprise. All I ever expected was more of the same from GTA 3, to VC, to SA, to 4. But 4 broke the mold. And it gave me something I didn't even realise I wanted. And now that they have gone back to 3 style arcade driving... it just feels so simple and bland.

The driving in 4 was terrible I don't understand what part of that was releastic if you swerve back and forth your side skirts would hit the ground never seen that in real life. Also if you want the driving to be f*cking harder than hold the control upside down or some sh*t like that. Seems like the people saying gta 4s driving was more releastic have never driven.

I've driven all over the US. And cars do really sway when you make turns at speed. Cars in V don't sway at all from what I can tell. They just stay perfectly flat. That is not realistic at all. At least 4 was an exaggeration of how things work. Not that realism is the end all be all. But I and others found it fun. Oh, cars also don't instantly stop from 100 mph to 0, they don't make sharp turns at full speed, they can't be steered in mid air, etc.

If you want less of a challenge why not play another game like SR instead of pissing and moaning when GTA 4 was released so that we have this? Or why not make it an option for people like Mafia 2?

Because San Andreas was 10 years ago!    Back then we were just happy to be moving around in such a big map.

OR you could just go back to SA if you want a regression so badly.

We're not asking them to CHANGE anything.   We're asking for them to provide an OPTIONAL choice of a better physics preset, similar to the one that is already available with the "slidey" cheat code.  So all you noobs can keep your babby physics, while the rest of us can have a more dynamic and realistic driving model.   Everybody wins.    It's not like we're trying to take away your babby toy from you :p

But it is f*cking arcadey, you can take a shasrp corner at about 100mph and when you brake you stop almost instantly. Just because some people can't drive doesn't mean its not arcadey

BOTH are arcadey, driver. 5 is slightly less arcadey than 4, with better grip and car response. Cars don`t float when hitting curbs, driver, nor do they have 2 meters long shock absorbers - that`s just a 14 years old`s imagination. When you`ll get your drivers licence and your first car, you might not see it still, because it would likely be a cheap ass car with broken O-Rings or f*cked up bushings, which MIGHT make it "boat like", but that`s only because its mechanicals are bad, not because that`s realism. By your second car you will begin to realize how stupid some gtaforums users are... or uneducated...

You sound like a 12 year old kid, so you wouldn't know driving physics if it smacked you in the face.

GTA IV's physics take more skill. GTAV is for the weak noobs.

Yes, because IV was totally perfect.

GTFO.

I would be happy signing something that improved on the turnings of the bike, more like IV. As for other vehicles, they are greatly improved from IV, so I'm not changing. You are all just so used to IV that it feels weird. Play V for a couple of days and then try and drive in IV, that will feel sh*t too.

No. Definitely not. Driving in IV was AWFUL. This isn't an argument of what takes "skill" and what doesn't. It wasn't pleasant, nor was it fun to drive in IV. Sure, GTA IV was more about realism, so the driving fits it. But GTA V has done a 180 and changed the gameplay, as well as the driving, to make it more about FUN. For the most part, realism isn't FUN, especially in the GTA universe. If you want GTA IV driving, then play GTA IV. Don't bring it into a completely different game and ruin it.

I like the new driving physics. That being said, I would like it to mix a little of IV's handling with it, but for me, it's fine. The collision damage sucks. It's horrible. But I can live with it too. In the future, I hope R* makes the damage system a little better than IV.

There is nothing to get used to, a blind 4 year old could naviagte the entire map without crashing in V.

Driving is so dumbed down in V it's cringe worthy.

It wouldnt be so bad if the 4x4's & trucks acted like they should - take a 4x4 off road and it has no suspension, it just goes over rocks like a toy car would. It's such a let down for those of us who wanted to have the freedom of SA with realistic car handling.

Long time GTA fan here and personally – I prefer GTA IV’s driving over GTA V. The leap from San Andreas to IV was quite drastic; long-time fans were suddenly introduced to levels of complexity more akin to simulators with physics driving even the simplest action; on my end this was more welcome. I love challenge.  SKATE for example, doing the simplest line of tricks provides a high sense of reward – compared to Tony Hawk, where this same line is a few mere button presses, provides neither a sense of accomplishment nor satisfaction. The driving between GTA IV and V I find follows the same principle.

Navigating between oncoming traffic required more control from the player; slight nudges of the analogue stick, managing the gas, brakes and being constantly aware of surrounding changes in the road/surface were vital to performing a simple action. The reward was in the challenge. However it’s clear given the regression that a lot of players hate this level of challenge – The same navigation through oncoming traffic now requires you to hold the accelerator and simply turn left or right without consideration for the stress this’d impact upon the car.

People whom hated GTA IV’s driving clearly don’t want challenge; yet being akin to a system for 5 years where challenge was welcomed and to have it suddenly stripped from us without any middle ground isn’t fair. The targeting system has options, simple for those that don’t want to aim and complex for those that prefer the challenge. The driving does not. The simple system is always going to reign superior in those regards, because you’re letting a program help you do even the simplest tasks - I don’t want that forced upon me. And I know the complexity was forced in GTA4, but Rockstar should have learnt that a lot of people do actually like the driving; generally people that enjoy something are less inclined to complain than those that do not; hence the heavier bias of people hating the driving.

It baffles me to think that whilst the driving has been horrendously cut down the rest of the actual game is more physics driven than ever. Crashing your bike leaves a realistic reaction, belly flopping into water cuts down your health and a small fall can almost kill you if landed badly (prat falls).

Furthermore, those that say the new driving are more precise, it’s not. It’s more twitchy and responsive. Precision suggests that I can turn a corner whilst maintaining the line the road provides; at the moment a hard turn always lends to over steering with a slight nudge of the analogue stick. There is no precision there.

I like the driving it's prefect, what is all the fuss about. If you want real like driving get Forza or GT and use simulation driving.

Funny enough I'm a fan of those games. GTA IV gave a new standard which it regressed upon because of "fuss" about it. Could the same arguement be swung on you and I can tell you "If you want simple driving get Saints Row or True Crime"? No, I want to play GTA, not Forza or GT.

Drifters and game critics are a dime a dozen and complain no matter what they fix or change or make better, so everyone get a tissue !!!!

Hence why an option would be greatly desired. Can't complain if there's a switch to your preference - Hell it could come in the form of a difficulty setting since this is all what is being asked for, a little challenge.

Suppose you didn't bother to read the petition? It's asking for an OPTION to change, nothing that'll affect your gaming experience - Why the hate?

GTA IV handling sucked ASS. This game is a breath of fresh air. FINALLY I can make a left turn without spinning out and loosing ALL of my speed.

LOL... How could you not make a left turn in GTA 4?   You do know the left trigger is brakes right?
