So from what I'm hearing, people are saying that the vehicle mechanics and physics are terrible. I haven't seen any gameplay on this and I don't want to see any before the release. I just want to know from people who have seen it or played it; does it seem terrible, and if so then why?

(Please do NOT post any screenshots or video leaks from the game, I don't want to see anything until I've played myself. I just want insight.)

Let me get this straight....

You heard that the driving is bad, SO YOU CAME HERE TO ASK IF THE DRIVING IS BAD?

Yeah according to these forums the driving is literally hitler (Even though the people who think this haven't actually played the game yet and those who have are either happy with the game's driving or not nearly as disappointed with it as some of the more vocal members here are) so you might as well cancel your pre-order because a bunch of f*cking babies on this website can't handle the slightest tweaks or edits to the game's driving, and some of them have even gone into nerd-rage mode (I got quite the laugh out of a few "I AM LITERALLY SHAKING WITH ANGER" posts.)

Wait, just to clarify.

You've come to a realization that other people who have played the game are not happy with the driving... and even though you realized that.

.... You came on here to ask us if the driving was bad?

So , he posts AN ENTIRELY NEW THREAD (that could have actually been a useful topic)

to clarify something that has already been confirmed by other members.... so he's reconfirming it on here?

Do I have this right?

Sorry, I'm just a bit confused.

Why is asking other players about the driving, on a forum called gtav - gameplay such a strange concept ?

I did ask a friend who has been playing the game for the past three days the exact same question. He claimed the driving is more like GTASA than IV. And yes I consider that a step back.

My sincere apologies.

I just don't get why someone would waste their time doing thing.

Is he trying to say that he has already heard the driving is bad and just wants a second opinion... or ?

He must have hobbies or something more productive to do than this.

Surely you have something more constructive to do than troll people on the forums, no?

I'm simply wanting people's opinions on the driving, seeing as though I've seen some OTHER people claim that it is terrible, and if you ARE one of those people: why is it terrible?

You already got your opinion from the others who have told you, so why are you asking me? The game isn't out yet. How the f*ck should I know !?

It seems allright, Franlin's  driving is a little arcade-y because that is his special ability., but it balances out with trevor and michael. Some of the elements of IV are gone, cars are easier to get out of ditches, they don't get stuck as often, high speed driving generally looks a lot more fun.

It still is above Saints Row's level though.

Most of the people whom are being so Vocal about it haven't played the game, most people whom have played the game either like it, or say it's fine, not as bad as the PS2 era games or Saint's Row but not as good as it could be.

Personally I'm reserveing my judgement for the game, driving in video games is something you can't get a feel for untill you've actually played it.

Based on videos (and we've been able to tell this since the Gameplay trailer in reality) it seems more forgiving than IV to put it bluntly, but untill I get that controller in my hands I really can't give you an accurate good or bad.

My advice, don't believe sh*t until you play and experience the game yourself. From the reviews i've seen and watched everyone has been satisfied with driving. Damage though seems to be different, it's still there but it's a lot harder to get the same amount of damage as you could in IV from a single collision. And theres always armour and reinforced bumpers.

watch there be a patch up for release, didnt they do that with rdr when it got leaked early to stop all the good features in it, cause cant they just tweak the handlng.dat cause in the strategy guide dont all the cars have different handling levels and from what ive seen almost all cars handle the same way. Who knows could be a possibility could be wrong i just cant wait to play it no matter what flaws

First they were complaining that IV's driving was too unrealistic (the suspension was too soft), now R* has made the suspension harder (AND added the possibility to alter it to your own liking) and they're complaining even more. I'll never understand.

They should have changed it slightly. But they have completely changed it.

The physics aren't as brutal as in previous GTAs. As far as I can tell, you can "aftertouch" the car in the air or when it is flipped.

So if it is headed to flip, you can sort of nudge it back so it gets nearly flat by the time it hits the ground. When it is flipped on its top (flipped over), you can nudge it back onto its wheels; this is the most unusual to see. Certainly, neither are realistic, but I think they are there to help the game move along, keeping you in a car rather than on foot.

These are bound to really, really piss some hardcore racers off. I'm not sure which side of the fence I am on.

Yeah I'm not too excited about that. Being a fan of racing games myself, I never preferred the games that allowed you to automatically flip your car back over. I'm also a little bit disappointed that your car doesn't take much cosmetic damage besides a few parts that can come off. Oh well, everything else in the game seems 100%. I'm sure I'll love it :)

Let me break it down for you:

some people like roses, some like tulips, some like red, some like blue, some like glossy some like mate...

so yeah, some will prefer GTA IV driving/damage (i'm this one) and some prefer GTA V driving/damage (you can be this one, and it's perfectly fine as well).

  • GTA IV - bigger inertia, less tire grip and predictable collision results (GTA with closest to real world physics engine [just with over/undersized parameters])
  • GTA V - fast paced, very low inertia. Allows for fast line switches and maneuvers, easy to pick and master. On off-road behaves somewhat badly, when the car seems to be tilting evidently on it's roof, it magically get's back on it's "feet". Thus, at least for me, after collisions with other cars or environment, the results are not completely intuitive.

When it comes to damage model, there is just NO excuse to prefer GTA V over GTA IV, let's be realistic here. (although i will get trashed in comments bellow for many reasons...)

this game would be PERFECT if it provided a choice to the player which driving physics he wants to use, but it does not.

everyone go here and vote, so we know what the majority of this community thinks.
