So I watched some gameplay videos fearing that the driving looked "arcady" as people are saying around the internet. I studied what I saw and decided to do some testing in GTA IV.
So, while I was playing GTA IV, I carefully watched the driving and I realized that the cars bounced off of things unrealistically... floating through the air and spinning 360 degrees before hitting the ground. I also took a corner, and my car flipped over completely and forced me to have to abandon it! I also noticed that every car skids around like you're driving on ice (especially in the rain).
Yeah, it's fun driving in GTA IV, don't get me wrong, but I think there's a lot to improve on the way cars handle.
GTA IV is not the holy grail of realistic driving, and while it feels more realistic than most games, I think there are many improvements to be made and it looks like those improvements were made in GTA V.
Just because you're used to the driving in GTA IV, doesn't mean it was "right"... you're just used to it.
Anyway, after seeing the leaked gameplay videos of GTA V, they certainly did not get rid of the physics on the cars. I still see the cars reacting to every bump in the road, the suspension still moves as it should and you can still flip your car by hitting a jump just right.
Here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna play GTA V for a little bit and before we know it, we'll actually much prefer the newer driving over the old sloppy driving in GTA IV. Rockstar aren't dumb, they most likely tested the driving until it felt really good.
One last thing. It's almost impossible to tell how a game FEELS when you're watching some other idiot on the internet play it because:
1. You're not holding the controller so you can't tell how the car reacts to your input.
2. You most likely have your own play style and will not play the game the same way the guy in the video is playing.
I'm still going to buy GTA V and have an open mind about the driving because although I really love the handling in GTA IV, but that could be because I got used to it and I may just love GTA V's handling even more than GTA IV's over time.
