I've asked this in a few threads now, and have been unsuccessful in getting any confirmation, so hopefully I'll get a response here.

Has the ability to select the 'Classic' control option returned?

Thanks in advance.

There are different control selections. I left mine default, and haven't checked out the options. Ill check em out right now and edit this post when I get back from doing so. Mind letting me know what you are looking for that makes the controls classic? Sorry just want to make sure before I do this.

Thanks dude. I want to know if there's a 'Classic' option like there was in IV.....you know, where you press X and Square to accelerate/brake instead of using the triggers. Cheers again man  :^:

Ah, yeah I will hop on my xbox right now and check for ya. I use the sme monitor as my PC so it will take a few minutes, but ill be back in a few with a response. And np, just trying to help people get some information that wont spoil the game but help with their confusions.

Cheers man, much appreciated.

Just got back checking, and sadly there is no Classic controls. There are only standard, alternate, and south paw (along with an alternate south paw). Alternate is just like slightly altered controls from default (LT and LB swap for L1 and L2 swap for PS3). Nothing along the lines of classic controls though.

Not judging as everyone plays games different, but with the way the handling is now triggers are much better for driving anyways. Just curious why you would like to use classic controls? Just used to it?

That sucks man. I was really, really hoping for a classic system. And yeah, I just got so used to the III-era games as I had put so much hours into III/VC/SA, as well as the stories. As soon as I found out you could change the default controls in IV, I immediately did so, and never looked back.

Oh well, looks like I'll have to adapt to using triggers to drive. I really don't like it, but there's jack-sh*t I can do about it :(

Cheers again man.

Yeah, controls are always a iffy spot. It is so much preference that you can't even argue why one set up is better.

Well, I will say this, the controls for driving feel really good with the new driving.

^Well I guess that's a little consolation. While we're on it, is the driving as arcadey/tight/terrible as everyone's making out? I personally loved IV's physics.

Well, for starters throw out anything GTA IV in reference to driving.

Now, lets start fresh. And before we get into it, yes I enjoyed Iv's driving as well. A lot actually, it was very unrealistic while trying to be, so it had a sort of charm to it.

V has a much different feel to it in terms of driving, in fact I would go as far as to say based just on driving GTA IV and V are different game series. When you first drive in V, you will be as Franklin (you will drive earlier but I won't talk about that part, as it is major spoilers). This is in my opinion, the best choice they could have made. Franklin handles cars much better than anyone else, because he starts at 70-100 or 75 or 80. I can't remember exactly, but this driving skill will directly relate to how well your character handles the car. When I drive as Franklin, I have a much easier time handling the car through narrow gaps, making faster turns, drifting and keeping my speed up, pretty much everything that would make sense for a higher skilled driver. As Michael, I have a much harder time fitting between cars, making high speed turns, drifting is not much harder, but keeping the speed through can be.

One more thing that most people do not understand is the leaks most people saw were of only Franklin driving and only of him driving in sports cars. The sports cars handle really well, they grip nicely but can also fish tail out if you know what you are doing. You can really feel the handling in V, like you really feel the car. Driving up a simple curb gives vibration feedback, and also pops the car up, hitting things will make you react based on the speed, angle and all that good stuff of where and when you hit the car.

The driving feels a bit more arcadey, but not in a sense of like NFS arcadey. I would say that feeling is because of how much better cars that should be gripping to the road grip than cars taht should have been gripping in IV. The handling is much tighter in a sense that you have more control over your car, no longer if you brake and turn the car just swings out, now to get the back end to swing out it will require input on your part and correctly entering and exiting the turn at the correct angles and speeds. The driving feels more intuitive and responsive.

It is so hard to describe the driving because of how different it is than IV. At first I thought the driving was going to get annoying, and it looked weird. This quickly changed over about a span of 4 hours where the AI driving, and my driving looked and felt so much better than in IV. Hopefully this vague description helps lol.

I like the driving, I think it's a good cross between the physics-heavy (yes pun) ways of IV and the old-school "blasting all over the place" styles. And it makes very cinematic chase sequences possible. The feel of the cars vary varied between different types of vehicles. Old pieces of sh*t feel like old pieces of sh*t, and the italian sports cars feel like blindingly fast sports cars. Just wait and get the feel for it yourself.

Yeah, the cars each felt unique in how they handle. It truly is amazing in that sense. Also like Strobe said, the ability to have a cinematic sequence of events is really there. Just driving down the streets with nothing to do can end up in a hairy squeeze to get through traffic or take a heavy beating to the car. They made the driving parts of missions feel much more cinematic in general too, making them feel more like a chase that matters and not just follow the red blip.

Not sure what Abseil is so I wont comment on that.

As for climbing, there is no free running or things like that. BUT, the animations for everything, including hopping fences, jumping walls, etc. have all been greatly improved. They feel more fluid and they line up correctly.

Abseiling is what micheal does in one of the trailers...descent via rope (he abseils out of a helicopter...I want to abseil off a cliff). Thanks for your reply, but im still unclear, can you climb a rock face or cliff? Like hand over hand climbing?

Sorry if this is confusing, or too much to find out...

Stobe187, or someone else who is already playing the game. I saw that some guy asking about trains. I also saw that you said there is a metro system in game. So, whether passenger trains only in the metro, or has it on the surface. On the surface I only noticed freight trains, but I would love to have passenger trains on the surface, Can you give me an answer about this. Thanks in advance. And thank you for giving us this information. P.S: Sorry for my bad english :)

@DymeDef

You've definitely repaired alot of the hype-damage caused by all the complainers in regards to the driving aspect. From what I gathered from your post, driving is going to be much more challenging, which is kind of what I was hoping for. I was at one point under the impression that the physics would be similar to that of the III-era games, and that thought scared me sh*tless. But it sounds like V's driving will be great fun once mastered.

God I can't wait to have this game in my hands!

When it rains, sizeable puddles appear on the ground. Waded a stream with Michael and his pants only got wet to the point the water had come up to. Drove the new Patriot: still solid. Drove the Bugatti-esque sportscar, the engine had a very nice lower, more throaty sound to the engine. Blindingly fast too. The Blista Compact is still a nice zippy vehicle.

The idle FPS-camera is mesmerizing to look at. It's distracting me from typing this post.

Can you enter the Richman Hotel?

Haven't tried.

The wanted system is great: evading the cones of vision from the cruisers really feels like blending in to the traffic if you drive according to the rules or it can feel like finding an awesome hiding spot under a bridge or in a small tunnel somewhere. Depending on the mission, you can really add some cool moments. All within the users control.

I like it.

Have you bought any safehouses? If so are there any HOUSES to buy. I know we can buy apartments but any actual houses, like with lawns and pools, etc???

Please check it out dude? I've been crazy about this since they confirmed properties.

The game is so vast I can only compile these little lists of notions, so sorry about the freeflow thinking:

You can hear the turbo working. The dedicated talk to peds-button is brilliant – the responses vary a lot depending on location. Ped conversations are hilarious as always: a lot of talk about filming porn, doing drugs, getting f*cked up. You can aim when throwing bombs out the window of a car. Run-n-gun can cause very awesome quick-paced cinematic shootouts. Guns have a very nice "heft" to them, you really see the impact of the shots. Flashlights on weapons look brilliant.

I can't emphasize enough how good the ocean looks and feels. Still haven't found scuba gear, itching to go because normal diving looks fantastic. The audio department is very good: the ambiance of the world and nature, car sounds, conversations, helicopter sounds all blend into a very detailed soundscape. The chicks on the pier are hot. The shadows are not a rasterized mess like in IV, instead they are really well defined and believable. The RAGE engine has come _far_.

So I talked to a guy who has 69/69 missions and he claims there isn't a way to purchase houses (only business). He says the Dynasty8 page is unavailable. This doesn't make any sense to me, they advertised that exact feature in the gameplay trailer. Have you gotten far enough to see if you can purchase homes?

What I can currently invest money on are businesses. Not sure about extra safehouses, could very well be later in the story.
