Cars in GTA IV actually had very wonky deformation. They seem realistic on the surface and real-time deformation is always a laudable technical achievement, but anyone who's actually seen a car crash would find them laughable. Nothing bends out of shape or breaks into pieces, merely denting inward like you're pushing your hand into a clay sculpture. If you pop the hood off a car before crashing it a few times, you can see that the engine is bending out of shape even though it still runs. Very few parts even break off, when a real car crash is loaded with parts flying in every direction; even a relatively minor crash creates a debris field of broken glass and plastic and chunks of metal.
